Not really, no. I can't think of a single PSX or N64 game that made me think it looked good at the time. Plenty of PC titles did, though.

I think FF7 set the bar is 1997 for what FF could be, FF8 was an unholy abomination, then the absolute pinnacle was FF9.

I agree with this thread. Though FFVIII (8) is my favorite. VII is "great" but not "amazing" VI is fantastic and V is highly underrated imo
