Bought this house wanting a theater room

Once I start... I knew it was a long road

My furry helper showing off original room/carpet

This wall is going to be made a 1/2 wall and turned into a bar top

Original closet door. Decided to keep the closet.

Took out the door to widen the opening.

Left vs right. Drop clothed

First cut about to be made... God help me

Planning the wiring. Blackout bottom half of room... You'll see why

Running wires though the walls. Wanted all in wall wiring. Plus wall is cut now.

Started carpet pull... Figured might as well. My adhd sucks

Reclaimed lumber door too small for bar top... Decided to make it a faux shitter door.

So far.... Reclaimed lumber is going up. Post is done. Rewired switch.

Half wall and frame

Frame around bar top.wainscoting going up

New closet doors. Cut all reclaimed wood into pieces then places horizontal and framed. Bent railroad tie handles.

Bar top going in

I make my own tools!! Scraping and prepping floor for new carpet

1/2 mineral spirits 1/2 burned linseed oil for all the reclaimed wood. Smells like ass. But makes the wood pop. Speaker wires all come out bottom right

Made own return vent.

Dynex box for goodied. Projector installed on hand made shelf. Bar is in

Screen painted... Getting anxious. Floor primed

Cafe' door made from reclaimed lumber post. Shitter door installed. With boat oar lock

Made my own couch riser with new carpet.

Couches i had already. Riser installed

Carpets done. Everything is in place. Lacquered the bar top and church railes 5 times each.

Movie time! Yes..my first 2 movies on this bad boy.

Dog tax.---- Thanks for hanging in till the end everyone. I enjoyed doing this project so much. Diy I did this with projector and materials for around $3000. Who knows what it would have been via carpenter/electrition. A lot of this was made possible with help from my father in law.

Encore! I had to add these pics.. Made my own acoustic panels too!

Look sharp i think. Just canvas filled with carpet and covered in fabric.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's pretty damn amazing

Reclaimed wood wouldnt be my first choice for a movie room, each to their own. Expected sound proofing with sweet surround though

You shouldn't have used linseed oil. Not only does it stink, but it's nearly impossible to paint over if you change your mind later.

That's a shame the ladies weren't too receptive to the whole plastic motif. It'd have saved you a lot of unnecessary work.

The second you mentioned ADHD I thought "Ah so the post will just cut off halfway through the project" lol

As reminder, dont take wall out of you house unless you know what you are doing. Get a structural engineer involved.

ok.. now my apartment is next.. youre hired

The front row seems awfully close to the screen. Is this not an issue when using a projector?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah America, where every fucker has a random big ass room going spare

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Dont hate because we dont overpopulate

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

psst... the acoustic panels are supposed to go next to the speakers (which should be at ear level)

You worked hard, awesome job!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You OP, has talent! Great work up there. +1.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, plus a lot of money of course. :D I'm sure it cost quite an amount!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nice job, Dexter!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you kidding!? I love the smell of boiled linseed oil. Burned, not so much tho

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My bad

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Niiice. A very homey home theater. I'd love to do something like this, probably would be underused by me.

< better, why is this the main room? Install a retractable proper screen and ceiling mount projector. you can even have that retract.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think peep should just make their main living room better. Youre all comfy there, its a hassle to get up & go to another room. If thats>

if anything have a rumpus for the kids to play in with toys books and a regualr tv for their spacewar xboxes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great job but all that work for some HTIB speakers. Upgrade them!

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Hey the important thing is the wiring is all there. So what he has now is fine. But he can upgrade if he feels necessary.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP gotta go with something a bit nicer. Watch Craigslist, I bought my 7.2 deck and Klipsch speakers for only 20 bucks. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sent it in to get worked on, only cost me 45 bucks. Had to buy new wire and a couple subs, but damn it sounds good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, seriously. I've bought some good audio equipment for cheap. Got a 15" HSU sub for $100. Look for any older Pioneer Elite stuff too.

Those colours and the wood looks really 70s to me... it looks dated. But I can appreciate the hard work!!

9 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 7

The popcorn ceiling kinda adds to that 70s feel. But it's super messy to remove so I can see why OP would leave it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm going to just put new Sheetrock over my popcorn ceiling. Fucking hate that stuff

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that a thing? Sign me up

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you live in Copenhagen?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like all your replies and would love to think it was anything special like that. I don't even chew. It was just a old sign I was given: /

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh Okey. Because I could had been cool to swing by with a present for the cinema

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure it's referring to the dip

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We need you @op

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or the wood cause around me most of the reclaimed wood came from old tobacco houses

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's awesome. I'd love to see the interior of the rest of your house?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also, when are you planning your next holiday?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure. Probably after I've given birth and won the lottery hahaha (crying inside)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was joking about how some criminals try to fish info about your home, valuables, security, and holidays ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ooooooooh. Fair play sire. I assure you I am only a nosey punter not a robber ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spent quite a while thinking "why would you want to do surgery in your house?"

9 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 1

Ya, you had the whole Dexter vibe at the beginning

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well if you're not planning to leave the house, you don't have to put pants on.

I am, why?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, when I was living in London my friend informed me they call it an operating theatre. In Canada we call it an operating room.
