Actually the image above to me baffles me because of all the loose threads. When I x-stitch, I use one color at a time and wrap the extra >
string around a paper tag with a number on it (indicating the color of thread).

It's called the parking method, it allows you to change colors very fast. There are a few ways, tons of YouTube videos on variations.
Huh, interesting (although I'd rather eat glass than watch a YT instruction video). Think I'll avoid it though, seems too easy to mess up.
Definitely takes some getting used to. I wasn't very successful using it.
