In Texas, where they brag about freedom and limited government, it is illegal for an adult to buy a beer or a bottle of whisky for 61 hours right now. Home of the hypocrite.

Alton here. Can confirm. Even in the blue strongholds it sucks ass. Def 1 star and that's bc I can't strip the flag to zero.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Or you could have bought your alcohol prior to the weekend like literally everyone else in the state….

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 14

Give Tejas back to mexico.

I do love to loathe Florida & Texas... and all the states in between :D

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah, yeah, I know.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From my "Memes of the Old World" Collection...

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Meanwhile I called and the liquor store is open in NM.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Texas is pretty low on the actual freedom scale.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You can buy beer and wine on sundays....

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even that's too generous a rating

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Texan here. The Blue laws used to be a lot worse and stupid in the 80’s. Entire isles of stores would be chained off on Sundays. So stupid!

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Freedom to the right wingers is the freedom to screw your employees, your customers and your citizens. And to those same wingers, any ....

2/... rule or law to do something about that exploitation, or even to talk about it, is socialism. And it is working for them.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I dont go to Texas because its somehow a shittier state than Louisiana

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

as someone that lived in Mississippi and went to LA and AL on a regular basis for a few years. that is not even remotely true >>

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

LA, MS, and AL made me think of third world countries that were just starting to work when i lived there

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Well, now Im pretty sure you've never been to either of those states.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The result of christofaschists running things. Not that I’m blaming the majority of Texans, because I know the deck is stacked against them.

Give Tejas back to Mexico.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It was actually a country before it joined the US, not part of Mexico.

Wet towns within dry counties, dry towns in wet counties, and assholes everywhere interspersed with a few nice people. Turd in the punchbowl

One of the programs I'm supporting down here:

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

'I'm finna mess w/ Texas ...LOL!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean it's been like this for longer than I've been alive. People already know to stock up early. You just want something to complain about

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

Its a dumb law based around religion, just because people have become complacent doesn't make it less dumb.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Are you able to change state laws by complaining on Imgur?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I never said I could, just that it's a dumb law and that the lifespan of a law has no effect on that fact.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well, we sure showed those lawmakers. They will change it now for sure

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So you're being intentionally obtuse?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Is electric power working across Texas right now?

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

Yeah, better than California anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

And apparently New York.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wouldn’t complain as much when there is no power if I was drunk.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

They should turn the power off on god days so that the faithful can fully prostrate themselves instead of watching TV.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Can I buy one if beer i part of my culture? I'm German.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*is

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not that youre not allowed to buy it. It's that the stores are not allowed to sell.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No. You assimilate, ya'hear? Now say Yeehaw like you mean it. SAY IT! *PEW PEW*

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

then why are all the people fleeing California and Oregon to live there?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 41

To buy up the properties & raise the rent here. Rent has gotten crazy expensive. Plus they bring all their crappy driving habits with them.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Trying to sober up ?

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Low hosting costs + people who want to escape their state that "the libs ruined" they can have all the freedom they want when the grid fails

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They won't be off put by the power issues, both states are woefully unprepared for natural disasters like Wildfires or Snow Storms.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No state income tax. Lower cost of living, except a few things like property taxes, but then you have to actually live there.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

ah I think I got you, so Texas sitting at one star is still better than no stars

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 18

Sounds like you really hate California. Sorry bud but texas sucks. I would know I live here

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Second this. I can't wait to leave Texas.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Lived there for a year, that was plenty.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What about what?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

this isn't even news at this point, there has been a massive migration of middle to upper middle class to Texas from these states

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

this isn't what about-ism though, texas has one of the largest immigration pulls in the US, if its a 'shit hole'... why >>

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

here is a source from 2017 but the trend has stayed consistent https://comptroller.texas.gov/economy/fiscal-notes/2017/october/migration.php

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Except you can buy beer in any grocery store at any time (that they're open). Liquor stores are only closed on Sundays.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

How is this better? It's a law because Sunday is a religious day. It is directly un-constitutional.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

"beer."

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yes, beer. The grocery stores here have great selection. https://www.heb.com/category/shop/beverages/beer-wine/490015/490033

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

they've updated the laws since the last time i tried to buy a "beer" in texas.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

huh. Been here almost 20 years and haven't noticed. Mostly drink local micros though.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no reason to know you were missing out. was fun hearing airman coming to tx for first time and learning the beer was all watered down.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Finland Sundays used to be "days of rest" too, meaning most stores and shops were closed. So I do kinda understand this.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can’t even buy beer? Even UT (we are in the same 60ish hour thing now for anything over 5%) can buy beer 24/7.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

The blue laws only apply to liquor. You can bit beer & wine

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can definitely buy beer still.. just all liquor stores are closed the day after a holiday on Sunday.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

IIRC Florida prohibits alcohol sales from sunrise until noon on Sunday. Wow - that could be as much as 6 hours!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

BUT MY WAY OF LIFE

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does UT beer even count as alcohol though? I drank one of those comically large mugs and didn't even know.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Haven’t been a beer drinker for a while, but they go as high as 5% outside the liquor store. In the liquor store they have all the 5%+ beers

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe it was the town that we were in and this was ten years ago? But we were told that they weren't over 1.5% alcohol, IIRC.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh wow. Not that I’ve seen. The stuff like Coors Light and Natural Light as 3.3. Heineken and Stella are 5.5.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nevermind, it was 3.3, my memory was exaggerating. There were also rules about how many beers they could serve us so they were giant mugs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the dildos.

3 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 5

We have not forgot about Ted cruz

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It’s more polite to call them republicans, but yeah

3 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 2

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Nice!!!!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dildos are designed to bring pleasure and feel good inside you. That's the opposite of a Republican.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey now, dildos have some uses unlike the others

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Surely you can go 61hrs without a new dildo

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

A Texas resident of legal age can only own 6 dildos, which is bullshit.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah complete overreach

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

surely that should be my decision, not the state's.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Depends! Are you civil danger once you buy too many dildos? Is there such a thing as dildo-madness? Seriously though, the state controlling

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how many dildos you can have? What a joke. Who possibly came up with that

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And why did they choose 6. Better q, how do they think its policeable? Better yet, *why* would anyone care? The happiest people i know own

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's the 61 hour thing...?

3 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 1

Blue laws: you must buy your booze Saturday night so you don't have to go anywhere to get tanked on Sunday morning. As God intended.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Says the Bible that we thump.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Blue laws on parts of the USA are so weird! In Indiana, you can't buy liquor on Sundays, but they leave the beer etc. in the shelves. <2>

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Which makes sense, unless you're from out of state. Some states don't allow liquor sales in a restaurant, and they don't have bars, but <3>

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

, but hotels get around that because private clubs CAN sell liquor. So when you check in, they give you a free club membership!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There's weirder ones. Dry counties or half strength beer or booze in a supermarket or bar.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Inn Indiana It's been fixed. You just have to wait until noon to buy alcohol

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Check out Louisiana - they put covers over the alcohol. I thought it was the most ignorant thing. a "no Alchol sales on sunday" sign works.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They have blue laws that prevent stores from selling certain things on God's day - liquor being one. Am curious if guns are OK.

3 years ago | Likes 225 Dislikes 8

It would be a good idea to stay stocked up then so you are prepared for emergency freedom days?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can buy beer and wine, but not liquor. It is a shit law. Today is fucking Tuesday. The only "god" it belongs to is Mars

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Find yourself an enlisted person and then send that person to the Class 6

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gods day. What a crock of shit. If god is ever present always, it's his day everyday. Fucking hate Conservatives.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But that's one day.... OP's is going on day 3

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an older texan. You can find all of them and at the right price if you know the right friends. Or as a song said. Friends in low places.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bible didn’t know about guns so they’re ok.

3 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 3

Bible was rather famously pro wine. Pro, "We literally drank all the alcohol in this house and it would take a miracle to save this party."

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And then "whoops guess this water is wine now"

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What kind of backwoods god has his day on Monday?

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

How dare you insult my Moon Lady that way? [Sorry, inside family joke - my first child sat outside at night "talking with my Moon Lady".]

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was too drunk on Sunday so he had to finish his work Monday

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not gonna lie, drunk when and in Texas when I made posted this comment. But is there any other way for a sane person to survive here?!?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuuuck. More drunk now. JFC... Am I even comprehensible anymore?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then sunday's weren't enough so they justified adding a day here and there around them come holiday time - you know, for freedom.

3 years ago | Likes 155 Dislikes 6

and limited government.

3 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 6

Land of the free ****terms and conditions apply.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of us are working on it and fighting hard. It's rough, but we continue to fight.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dafuq - even if all Shops are closed on Sundays/Holidays in Germany of course you can buy beer&booze at gas stations or restaurants.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

In some states, God hates beer and liquor.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But... but... the monks are the one brewing the beer? ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WTH is a God's day?

3 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Sunday.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We used to have a God's day but then capitalism won and now every shop can be open on Sundays too. Many aren't but that's bc of less /

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

shoppers and more expensive hours for the company. Sunday pay is supposed to be like double the normal pay.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We DO have restrictions in alcohol sales, you can't buy anything over 2,8% alcohol from 9pm to 9am except for bars and such.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is a day when you are supposed to go to church, then spend the whole day thinking/praying to or reading about God. You can't wok either

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No wok!?! But can you still cook in other types of pans?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol. You got me.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because in the Christian creation story God created the world in six days, then rested on the 7th. ??

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Surely if an Almighty Being of Infinite Power and Knowledge needs a day off, my sorry ass deserves a weekend.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The lazy fuck.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And why does it last for 61 hours instead of the normal 24? America is so weird.

3 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

Texas*

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

61 hours is a poor description. They are always closed on Sunday. But bc of observing holiday, they close monday too. So 2 days instead of 1

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

That’s why I said 61 is a poor description. They would already be closed for much of that in the middle of the night anyways.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

That's still 48. What about the other 13?

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0
