Flux was my favorite part of jewelry class. So satisfying!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could do that too if I had all that expensive equipment, an ounce of talent and any ambition. But I have none of those things, so...

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Oh gosh I cant believe it’s you @OP I was so impressed with your fingerprint rings! Your works are amazing!!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Like Warhammer 40k models but only half as expensive. :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn. Modern crucibles are amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bill the Sailor thinks it’s cool.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can feel thousands of peoples envious of his environment

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Neato.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Beautiful - and a well made „making off“ vid.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bracelets are complicated, they should cost like a million dollers each

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Retails for $1 in the twist machines at the mall.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You have a lot of know how in a jewelry industry hahahaha...Have a good Saturday night kid

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I was just making a joke based on how much time it looks like this took. It really is very nice and I didn't mean any offense!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t get all of the hate. This is the process in how you make this particular jewelry which I imagine isn’t something you can just (1/)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

YouTube. This is an amazing process. Even though I wouldn’t spend money on it I can appreciate the work it took. Even the video must’ve(2/)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Taken a while. Pablo. Post this on a subreddit. You should get better feedback for sure. Thanks for posting this, friend (3/3)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The hate is because, despite the incredibly impressive work that went into it, the finished product despite being technically great is ugly

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why'd he dip that shit in the black shit?

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Idk, but I love the phrasing of your question.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Liver of Sulfur or a similar compound, it basically stain/dyes the silver a darker color

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right, but, why do it? It looked better when it was black diamonds(?) set in silver. Made the gems stand out more.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Artistic preference I suppose. Or maybe the gems sparkle more on the black, idk

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that you @OP?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Im Pablo :)

:O

$3.34 on Amazon

8 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 2

I've been shopping for jewelry on Amazon. Some weird-looking stuff has prices that match the effort shown here.

Lol

I thought he was going to actually encourage barnacles to grow on a form. That would have been much cooler.

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Would have also been painful to wear, but beauty hurts.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I did too, but that would make shitty jewelry

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Really small barnacles then encased the whole thing in resin maybe so they didnt scrape the shit out of you?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing process! Thanks for sharing. I wish I had access to those machines

8 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 2

Thank you!! You always can find a casting house for the casting process. At the beginning I dint have all the machines...

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

i thought it an interesting process as well; thank you

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a few gorgeous opals I cut myself that I don't know how to set in jewelry.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://imgur.com/IfVL9zf I made this ring for my wife by hand. It took a long time. I did lost wax casting

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That’s amazing!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very nice design. Congratulations ;)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So why did he cut up the 3D printed object to cast it in pieces, then put the cast back together exactly the same way the first object was?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Everything had to be cut apart and put back together to hollow it out to reduce the weight of the final product.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm asking a serious question b/c I know nothing about this sort of process.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

To make the finished cast lighter, use less material and to prevent bubble formation. Also, I figure if part of the casting has a defect, >

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

> he doesn't need to recast the whole thing. Also helps to set up the spring, but mostly the thing about making it light and comfortable.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why did the mold have to be cut in half lengthwise?

8 years ago | Likes 154 Dislikes 3

Remember how you teacher used to say you did not pay attention? Room for the spring (also, I'd assume it molds better w/ less air bubbles).

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 34

As for molding better, no. It would mold just fine in one piece. Source: was married to a goldsmith for 16 years.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're trying to make fun of someone based on your assumption? Your guess? Dude at least have something solid before you get all smug.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

v

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Lmao shit on

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

There aren't any air bubbles in this process. The material forms around the wax, the wax melts and leaves a cavity in the shape of the wax.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Less weight...more confortable ;)

8 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 10

And cheaper

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

This. You don't want a honk of solid metal that big on your wrist, it would be hella annoying.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

A lot of native American gold, silver, and copper jewelry is solid and BIG. My aunt wears like three 2 inch bracelets, 7 rings and earrings

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

North West Indians bling so hard

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But then he glued the two halves back together in the final product. It's not lighter or more comfortable than molding it together to start.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

He hollowed out the inside of the halves

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Aaah. I was wondering why he just kissed the inside with that rotory tool. So he actually kept going with it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But barnacles are gross...

8 years ago | Likes 265 Dislikes 5

They have really cool glue.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Up next is the one on warts

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know about gross but they hurt my feet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

aren’t barnacles mostly penis?

8 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

and tasty ;)

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

I'll be honest: had no idea they were edible.

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

They're lush on a hot day by the beach with a cold beer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Goose-neck barnacles are quite popular, especially in parts of europe.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Everything is edible

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Even I’m eatable

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Some things are just only edible once?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Once eaten, whatever end of my digestive system it uses to leave it, I won't re-eat it again. Doesn't everybody do the same?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What keeps the gems attached in place?

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Gravity

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like OP said, small grains of metal, called claws or prongs

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Strong family morales

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Staking. He took a little punch in between them to smoosh the metal over. Similar to how they set rivets.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cold temp causes shrinkage.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that part where he makes little pokes next to the gems, he's bending the metal slightly over the edges of the gems

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Small grains of metal hold the stones in place

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

And what was the solution at the end that turned the metal black?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Chloride iron

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Iron(III)chloride*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Acid probably.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

You're right, it's a lewis acid.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

TIL I would suck at making jewelery.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. A lewis acid that steals electrons. Not all acids have hydrogen.
