Some years ago me and some mates went on top of a hill to have some beers with a view, and I brought toy cars with me so we could play with them like we used to as kids. One of my mates crashed his toy car because "he was driving drunk."
The excavator operator is showing the truck drivers how he wants them to back in to get loaded, experienced truck drivers can usually figure it out easily, especially if you show them with your bucket, others need you to park, climb down out of the machine and guide them in like those guys directing planes on aircraft carriers.
the supervisor earlier that day: "what do you mean that won't work? why can't you just do it how i want you to?" the guy trying to explain why what the supervisor wants is stupid: *sigh* "hey Tony, get the tonkas. yeah, he's not getting it, I've explained it three times already"
visualisation...instead of explaining 5 times like "left...no the other left" you show it once and then everyone knows what up...and why spent big bucks on software or whatever fancy tools when kids toys work just fine for it...
Considering that excavator in the background probably costs a few hundred bucks in fuel and oil just to turn over and get to working temperature, definitely worth taking a few minutes to make sure everyone is on the same page.

This is kind of cool and makes really good sense
macgerdo
This is ABSOLUTE genius. Who ever thinks this is stupid never had coworkers.

Dry run with a visual aid. This is smart and not childish at all. Good on them.
weidermeijer
No one should call this stupid. Visual aids.

You can actually see the moment when the supervisor understands.

The bucket on one of those can fill a 40 yard (volume) dumpster in one go.
viila
Ok, I know the imperial system is fucked up, but last I checked, yard was a unit of distance, not volume.
alexburgers
from context it'll be yard³ (yard-cubed or cubic yard), but that's still a stupid unit.
rumandbass
A yard is basically a meter. Yard can be distance and volume just like meter.

Love the innocent thought that they're gonna let it get up to temperature before they use it.
