I like his flippy hair

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That 'ugh' of exhaustion at the end and then looking to the crew to see if it was good

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder how awkward it is in that room just watching him do that

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He is a trained actor, throw him in a black box and put a skull in his hand and without blinking he will start acting Hamlet.

here you go:

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 14

Not on me but its the very last scene in the second movie

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

In my memory, the movie had less moving than him here. I feel like this was unnecessary

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Perhaps necessary for voice inflexion and getting into character?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Fkn WOW!!! Just read that he brought the house down with his theatrical version of Hamlet... A running time of 3 hours!!

I really enjoyed that movie.

"I am fire! I am death!" "Oh, hush Alan. You lot do love being the centre of attention, don't you?"

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

you are fucking funny this made my day

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Glad it did so :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How much of this is necessary? I feel like they're fucking with him.

10 years ago | Likes 1058 Dislikes 7

It wasn't. He literally asked if he could do it, despite the fact that the mo-cap for such a totally non-human creature would be superfluous

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually, they just needed his voice. Bendthatdick Cuminherbutt just likes getting in character.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A lot of it is needed for reference and movement. Exaggeration is better as reference because the artists can find a middle ground.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They actually told him he didn't need to, but he wanted to anyway

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for sound direction too! You can't just speak into a mic

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I remember right, it was his idea and he pushed for it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plenty. When you're turning BenCbatch into a dragon, you're after facial expressions, timings of body movements, maybe some poses and stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

they literally fucking told him they only needed his face, but he insisted on the whole getup.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact- bendisndi cumberbatch got tips from Andy serkis aka the Gollum and Cesar from planet of the apes

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I liked his interpretation of a fire sale.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like HE'S fucking with THEM and they just went with it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

ok time for the flying scene. flap your arms really really hard. no, harder. HARDER.

10 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 1

You're not generating enough lift! HARDER!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Frankly, having dealt with some mockup data, and done animating the old fashioned way, mocap is often more trouble then it's worth... (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes, cleaning it, making it fit the rig, and not be generally fucky takes like 80% of the time you'd need to just make the animation..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of the time I'm better off just using a reference video for artists.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They probably are and aren't.. He may have enjoyed getting to act like a dragon. So for the laying down.. This one is skeptical.

10 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 1

I hear originally they hadn't even hired him. He just showed up like that and started going ham. They were impressed with his dedication.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

A friend who has a massive man crush on Cumbersnatch argued with me til he was blue in the face that Cumbersnatch doing this makes him (1)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

a better actor. Bullshit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Enjoying fucking around like there's no tomorrow is a definite acting asset. It's always a good thing if you can enjoy your job =)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was actually his idea. He thought movement might help him get more into character or summat

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I heard that it was to help his voice sound right, actually moving/straining while talking rather than sitting in a booth.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... spotted the Brit.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Originally, they weren't going to. However, Benadryl Cumberbundtcake insisted that they use him for motion capture.

10 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

Omfg that name. I choked on my popcorn

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

insisted in this case meaning begged and pleaded until Peter Jackson said "Okay, fine, come and play."

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

"Yeah yeah yeah, now pretend your a puppy"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sort of reminds me of the time when south park hired George Clooney but then had him just bark like a dog.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Is that the red rocket episode?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good question, I don't remember. I think yhe dog was sparky, season 1 or 2.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Method acting.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Having the base animation with mo-cap saves so much time

10 years ago | Likes 411 Dislikes 0

Yay, mouth animation!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but, like, how much of that has to be reworked to fit dragon anatomy anyway?

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 6

It's more like reference. The animators can look at it to match motions with the acting to get the timing and expressions right.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nah they'll just rig the dots to different points on the skeleton and it'll mimic the movements but in a dragon way.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They can but its so much cleanup and tweaking that most animators prefer to simply use that data as reference (on a dragon, though, likely).

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well you're not going to know exactly which shots are usable, so you get lots of them to choose from.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The facial capture, on the other hand, is likely 1:1 with only cleanup in post.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Rendering expression and movement directly from a source that naturally does those things makes for more fluid, and better animation.

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Yes! I learned that form the Rocket Jump film academy on Youtube!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Probably not a lot those dots are points on the 3d model it will read those and know how to move the dragon from then it's only tweaking

10 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 0

Tweaking? Looked more like twerking to me... but then, what do I know

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

10/10 want to watch smaug twerk

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's how they filmed Sherlock.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now we need Sherlock behind the scenes.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's not what that is?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've never been so happy at 11:17pm haha

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in Canada and it just says I can't watch it because of my overly polite attitude...I don't know how to feel aboot that. :/

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I'm British and get legitimately angry when it tells me it's a detriment to having a monarchy.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

As an Australian, there's no way I'm giving up my Vegemite to move to America.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This is some funny shit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that what it tells you? XD And America wonders why we all don't like them?
