Color: chestnut oloroso sherry 1.2
2/5 cool nose prickle

Nosing
Cardinal: mild iodine and smoke, marmalade
Minor: seaweed, heather, ale, acid drops

Palate
Medium viscosity
Sweet, smooth mouth feel with a mild dry finish. Iodine persists. Mild cigar smoke, with a long gentle finish turning into a trail of oak after swallow.

Awakened: 3 drops cooled, boiled filtered water, one finger dram in a Glencairn glass
Nosing
Ale turns into sweet malted milk, smoke no longer evident, heather more obvious, marmalade give way to green apples.
Palate
Medium viscosity. Sweet. Oak replaces smoke which although is now faint, a whiff is still detectable, with lingering hints of iodine.

8.5/10
I first tried this one at a bar, as I knew I would enjoy the Pedro Ximénez cask, and wanted to try an Islay style Scotch. Not only was I not disappointed, in fact I was very much entertained by the delicious flavours this expression has to offer. So much so, that I bought my own bottle. Adding water expanded and transformed the drink, though both neat and awakened have their merits, and it would be difficult to say which one I preferred. The smoke was pervasive, but gentle. The sweetness on the tongue also complemented the peat, which made it very pleasant for an Islay novice such as myself. Highly recommended entry to Islay, because the peat is gentle but unmistakable, making it an excellent way to experience Islay for those of us that have been apprehensive up to now.

*looks at OP's username* I agree, whisky is always better without recreational party drugs.

Not a huge islay guy, but I can always appreciate the tasting notes from a fellow whisky lover! I'll take the Dailuaine 16 instead ;)

Viscosity: very much like water Taste: whisky with feelings of regret and remorse, in equal measure. Father's disappointment persists.

I work as a distiller making single malts and talk about whisky all the time, but you sir, are a pretentious ass.

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to express your opinion, which I disagree with.
