Scientific rigor goes out the window when money comes in the door. We can't profit our way out of anthropogenic climate change.

Carbon offsets were always capitalist snake oil.

https://www.wired.com/story/how-the-next-big-thing-in-carbon-removal-sunk-without-a-trace/

Carbon credits are the Daylight Savings Time of climate change mitigation:

"Only the government would believe that you can cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and get a longer blanket."

Honestly carbon credits were an attempt to use the capitalist system against itself- something that had worked in the past. Unfortunately it did nor achieve its goals this time

Dear world,
As an American, I am telling you that the only way to get my country to damage the environment less is to damage our economy as much as possible. Nothing else will have any effect.

Carbon offsets would be a great way for organizations to conserve land and forests

Just gonna say it, these were Democrat policies.

The Dems are just as beholden to corporate interests. This concept was the only thing they could sell to the Rs and the money men to get some buy in on addressing climate change.

There's plenty of evidence that capitalism cannot stop catastrophic climate change. We change the system or we die.

I mean, it does work in principle, but like most CC, it's not efficient enough to be net negative.

True, but the reality is, it's also stuff that we need to do to fix the problem.
As even if we get to net-zero, we still have a 250 years worth of CO2 debt causing issues.
Getting to net-zero just means we stop taking on more CO2 debt, CO2 capture is needed to pay off that debt.
Even though it's not efficient, we still need to develop the sector, because we need to remove CO2, and not just stop emitting it.
As cutting emissions only stops thing getting worse, but doesn't help them get better.

We tried that in Sweden as well making our own carbon offsets, Electric mopeds for Ghana, so far we have spent 10 million usd on it with the goal of 48 thousand mopeds being built, so far 152 have been built and some of those have shown to just be repurposed gas mopeds

Additionality!

It’s not that it can’t be done or that it won’t work. It’s that the priority has always been to feed the parasites. If the don’t get their fill, there’s no longer a reason to press forward. This will continue until we swap out ivermectin for guillotines.
