8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ron Swanson would be proud...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who censored a table?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost big enough to play Star Wars Customizable Card Game.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like a lot of work for something so ugly lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For some reason I imagined this was just a piece of a huge pixal art project

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Approximately 18,000 free wood samples.

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Closer in the range of 1,000 - 1,600. 60 columns across with rows ranging all over - lowest I counted was 16 and highest was 25

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Rekt!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad I’m not the only person who saw this and counted the rows/columns

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is it awesome?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Its a lot of work, a lot of time, looks well made, and is quite visually pleasing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks expensive

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 3

I'll go to IKEA.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So long it's not mdf

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've heard of people doing this with free scrap wood. Super labour intensive after that. Glue and clamps.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Looks heavy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The wood itself would be relatively inexpensive. Tons of work though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not really. Just time intensive... and so long as you have access to a wood shop and tools.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Mostly labor cost. Got work bench top forMy kitchen island 3x5 cost 200, if I do real butcher's block it would be 600+

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Are you doing it for luving? Would you post your work/pics with progress?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh no, I don't make them. I ment by I ordered the block for my new kitchen, was looking at kitchen butcher's block it's was expensive

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Y'all is there supposed to be an image I'm seeing here?

8 years ago | Likes 188 Dislikes 4

Looks like Japanese porn to me.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It's a sailboat. https://youtu.be/hK4PzZQQ8l8

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got you fam: There's a table in the red circle, I can see how you missed it, looks a little low res.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Can't you tell? It's definitely the gif

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's a bit pixelated.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also tried squinting. Hahaaaa

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm not sure this belongs near the FP, it's just a fuckin table?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a schooner

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

You dumb bastard, it's not a schooner. It's a sailboat.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

A schooner *is* a sailboat, stupidhead.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Huh, I didn't know that. A schooner has always been a glass to me. Interesting

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yarrr, I hate the sea and everything in it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like the backseat of a Volkswagen?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats like $100 just in glue.

8 years ago | Likes 645 Dislikes 1

Any glue sniffers would like to verify?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Makes me dizzy !

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And $200 in varnish

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What happens if it is in a big humidity place ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

100? Pfft try higher

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

$101

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bingo!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone else said it was closer to $20. I crunched some rough numbers and came up with $93.50. Based on $8.50 per bottle good for 100 sq ft.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on the type of glue. I'd use and recommend titebond III which is closer to $15 a bottle. But regardless the labour is the cost

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Serious question: when gluing all those pieces together, how to you make the surface totally planar (with squeeze out, uneven pieces, etc)?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Go over it with a bench plane when it's dried up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 3 or 4 groups, planed them and then glued those groups together using 2x4 to keep each section from creeping.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's probably done is smaller strips and planed and through a thickness sander then joined with lamellos or clamped with cauls or both

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have never done anything this size. I figure, based on the size of the shop, they have a big fucking planer. That or they glued it in 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What is a planer?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But a table that size is like $2000, right?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh at least! Wood not be surprised if it was pushing 5k or more.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, prices of wood crafted tables is stupid high right now, go check Etsy if you want to see for yourself

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ha, wood

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And 1000 in time spend glueing

8 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 2

Under appreciated comment of the year.

+1 for username

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Hmmm I’ll give you $15

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'll give $14

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't even know where you get clamps that big

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Sash clamps

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've always used block wood on the outside edges and ratcheting cinch straps.

Long pipe sections with pipe clamps, probably. That's a couple hundred just in clamps!

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

But you get to keep the clamps.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I would do a ton of small sections with clamps then join all the sections together in one shot with a winch & frame. No giant clamps needed

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But, I’m also not a carpenter. XD

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If not a carpenter, the only other explanation for your username is that you eat exotic hardwoods

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pipe clamps. They attach to the ends of any length of iron piping, but at $20 per end and like 50 clamps needed at once... ouch, my wallet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh wow, those are nifty. Also a pain to search for because of the other pipe clamps https://imgur.com/rss87tJ

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Excuse me, do you have any pipe clamps? No, I don't want clamps for pipes, I want pipes for clamps." Very marx brothers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

more like:

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats like $20 at most in glue. Regular d3 wood glue will easily hold that together.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

AV515 would be infinitely better

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just ball parking here but it looks like 60 sections, 1” thick pieces (58 glued sides) 2” tall by about 8’ long is 928sq ft. Each section1/3

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2/3 has roughly 20 pieces (18 glued sides) at 1x2(2sq inch) x 18 x 60 is 180 sq ft. So 1108 sq ft. Lets say a bottle of d3 costs 8.50 and

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3/3covers about 100 sq ft. So 1108\100=11 bottles x 8.50 is $93.5.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

point taken, I like it.
