"Japanese researchers said they have developed artificial blood that can be transfused into patients regardless of their blood type and can vastly improve the chances for survival of seriously injured people."

Also wanted to point out this is sounds like the reasons vampires came out from hiding in the show True Blood.

So, the Japanese invented True Blood too...

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

So they made 0 negative blood? Cool.

Proto-Blood

I don't like this. It lowers the market value of my blood.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it good with vodka?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nope.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, you know... Just O- blood. Everyone can already take that. Source: I'm O- and the Red Cross WOULD NOT STOP CALLING ME for years.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

O- is a universal donor but can only receive O- So the artificial blood would be ok for any blood type to receive, no testing needed.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah. Literally just like O- blood. Anyone CAN take it, no testing required.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so just o-

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also can be stored for much longer at room temperature and doesnt require to be shaken up every few days

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's CERTAINLY not poisoned vampire bait, if thats what you're thinking.. NOTHING like that...

BEWARE THE OLD BLOOD!

Didnt you watch Interview with a Vampire? they've been 'out' for years

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as they look like this, no arguments here!

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

How do vampires get boners if their hearts don't beat?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Vampires have complete control over their bodies. They can even flash freeze things they touch by rapidly sucking blood out of their limbs.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Magic, duh.

True-blood. 4.95$ a bottle at your local vampire friendly bar.

Iirc they were just cloning the blood?

Woah. Source?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i believe it is from True Blood. The blood from the eyes gives it away. Vamps in the show cry blood instead of tears.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure it's from an episode of True Blood. There's an STD in it that makes vampires hemorrhage & rot over time.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Hep. V"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is not the case though, as this vampire was crying (they cry blood).

But how does it taste compared to the real thing?

Asking the important questions

Vin ordinaire at best. Weak, no nose, no body, hardly any bouquet at all.

It's the diet tab of blood... so not good

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It helps if you pop it in the microwave for like 20-30 seconds.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stale and flat. Like coke that's been left out on the counter for a while.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sweet! now I have a better chance of not dying from blood loss. O- is a kinda rare bloodtype.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

maybe if you weren't sO negative, it wouldn't be a problem.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really don't like it when people think that all my problems will go away if I just B+

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So basically type O blood?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

While O- is generally considered a universal donor, some rare conditions require a transfusion to be free of a specific set of antigens ->

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this can make finding a matched donor difficult or nearly impossible. Manufactured blood would in theory be truly universal or ->

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

at least made to order for such specific needs. (source: I do blood typing and screening for a major blood bank)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for this knowledge! :D

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can a human naturally have blood that is free from any type? Not even O-type? (Same with the +/- type too?)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The types that you commonly see (A,B,AB, and O) represent the presence or absence of "A" and "B" antigens with O having neither. ->

Yep! I'm on mobile ♂️

What are you talking about? I love it! I dont have to chase people now.

6 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

HA GOT YA BITCH

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I mean, since they have this stuff now, is there any real reason to hunt Vampires anymore?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope. Absolutely not. Hunting is 100% not necessary. >.>

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know how we have people who swear by "all natural food" imagine that but in vamps

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's like why us werewolves love the invention of packaged meat, gotta love the convenience

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

ehhh... heh. Werewolf, huh? So. I'll tell you what. I'll stay over here, you stay over there and we can just... be cool. Yeah? Yeah.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Works for me, really I don't even care about ancient blood rivalries, but whatever makes you comfortable

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not being torn asunder for being an abomination to nature is a good start to comfort. I got lucky last time I met one of you guys...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So, 6 of 10 rabbits survived with it. That’s the whole story. No human trial. Nothing. Wait and see, my friends. Wait and see.

6 years ago | Likes 480 Dislikes 6

This is why I love "retweet this so it doesn't disappear" memes. A lot of stuff that is promising in the lab fails further testing.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bullets kill cancer cells in the lab, but something tells me they will fail during human trials.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's actually quite impressive. The first blood transfusions had a lower ratio.. until we figured out that rhesus factor thing.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

according to the bottle, this was 7 years ago. So being that i haven't heard anything else about it, im willing to bet it failed.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...which is the same survival rate expected from transfusions of real blood. That seems really promising!

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

What? Have seen a lot of this, have had blood a few times and was never told I was at a 40% chance of death.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I assume this means that most people getting blood are close to death. I assume the rabbits were not nearly killed first, so not super

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Promising

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"a ratio comparable to that among rabbits treated with real blood, according to the team." for a little added context there

6 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 0

Every ratio can be considered comparable to the real blood ratio though. The question is if that comparison is positive or negative.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 36

Comparable means similar in this context.

Bunnies are very tasty though

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Orrrr Yay 6 bunnies! They probably felt all good after receiving some extra blood

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Because of the implications!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can someone explain to me why we can't synthesize blood in the 21st century? Why is it so difficult?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Because organics, and specifically living tissues, are really fucking hard to make without starting with living tissue.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Since we can't create life, we need to figure out how to replicate the same effect, or bypass certain parts of the production process.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

same reason why we can't explain why you are a virgin...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

12? Or 13? How old are you?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

doesn't matter, while I may be ugly, I'm not a virgin...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because that is essentially the same as creating nanobots. i'm talking 4,500,000 per milliliter of blood. This "artificial" blood is just 1/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/ real blood made outside a human using stem cells in a lab and packaged in microscopic sacs to make it last longer. Very cool but not huge

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Blood is made of proteins in a sack called a blood cell. We are unable to grow real blood cells because that requires imitation bone marrow

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thanks

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Also blood has lots of other bits that are essential to life like platelets, white cells, etc. And it's a delicate balance.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Which is hard af to make. So reserchers have tried modifying the proteins so they can be independent of the sack

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which means they need to be stale in blood and not get fucked by the immune system. This is hard but seems like what these bois have done.
