Yes it's all black and white until you make it grey to suit your self. [selfishness]

Actually, we just don't want the government lackeys wasting and stealing half of our stuff in the name of helping the poor.

False

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

This pin head doesn't know the facts. Cathlic charities does more to feed, house and educate the worlds poor thsn any other organization.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Here's an important difference: nowhere does the Bible say it is governments job to do this.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or he was made up by the romans and you're just dicks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

No one says don't help the poor. We disagree about the how. I say the government sucks at it. Stephen would disagree.

Solid truth! Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist... It just doesn't matter. Care about others and you'll be rewarded forever

Give all your money to the poor then make that statement. Do it!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We spend more just in government entitlements per capita than any other country in the world, we want to help them and we do help them.

You get that strawman!

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 38

Is it really a strawman when that is literally what the Republican Party says? Like I'm not saying every republican voter says this, but 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 11

Voted for people who say this, aka they're choosing those exact viewpoints to be represented in the government. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 9

I'm okay with these viewpoints condoms cost 40 cents, its not hard to have even a modicum of personal responsibility.

But parts of that same group also advocate for abstinence only education...

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Cor 9:7

I think it's safe to say the takeaway is not "don't help if you don't want to." It's saying that you should want to give.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

EXACTLY. I agree.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Help the poor, don't point a gun at your neighbor to make them help the poor.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 9

1) No. It says cheerful giving is PLEASING to God, to a society that followed Old Testament law and was REQUIRED to give to the poor.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

2) Since God wrote the Old Testament law, we know it is morally acceptable to God to require charitable giving, because HE required it.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

3) The New Testament simply says that you can go beyond the LAW and be pleasing to God by giving what is required & beyond CHEERFULLY.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

4) The scripture you're referring to is discussing giving TO THE CHURCH, by the way. It's not a scripture about charitable giving.

No, no, no, they dont want facts a nd statistics, they want to keep insulting the US to no end

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

It's probably just fake news anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

1) Highly misleading. That's not measuring charitable giving, it's measuring tax exempt giving, which is different altogether.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

2) Notice the high giving in Utah & Idaho? It's because the Mormon church ensures their members are "tithing" 10% to the church.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

2a) I have been contacted by a (former??) Mormon who informs me 10% is the minimum, 20% is "encouraged".

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

3) The trend continues in the Bible belt, but most of the tithes don't go to help the poor, they pay for the church buildings & activities./

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Scientologists must be some of the most charitable people ever then!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Charitable? No. Tax exempt? Yes. They give till it hurts. Then call it a warm up.

Trillions? Please link to the budget where we spend TRILLIONS a year on social welfare.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

https://www.thebalance.com/u-s-federal-budget-breakdown-3305789 2 trillion for just Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

SS & MC are not social welfare. Middle-class folks pay into both every single paycheck.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

what??? lol trillions? TRILLIONS?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid alone combine for about 2 trillion.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Social Security & Medicare are not welfare. They are earned benefits. You pay in, you qualify for them.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Both are welfare because there is no connection between amount paid vs benefits recieved

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

But there is no assessment of need. The Millionaire with a full retirement plan & the min wage worker who has nothing but social security >
