Long story short, I work as a paramedic in a response vehicle and most of the time I'm the first person on scene for high-priority emergencies. The vehicle I work out of looks similar to a police SUV, except for the fact that it's purple and white with "Paramedic Response Team" written on the side and "Paramedic" written on the back and front.
So I roll up to a house for an emergency and as I'm getting my equipment out of the back, a gentlemen drives by with his window down and yells, "fuck you, pig!". For a moment we made eye contact as I tried to comprehend what had just happened, and as it occurred to me I made a face that I can only imagine looked something like pictured above. All I could think of to say in response was, " Uh, I'm a paramedic, guy". Besides the fact that the comment was extremely ignorant, you're not even talking to the right person. I get that you've got issues, but the people that you're calling "pigs" are here to help you.
So for everyone else out there, stay safe and be considerate of your first repsonders. It's chaotic out there sometimes, not to mention that every now and again you run into a jag-off like that guy.
FP Edit: Holy Mrs. T's peirogis, front page. For those wondering, yes I'm from Pittsburgh (highland park area to be specific). Also, I weigh 156 lbs and have a 30 inch waist, so it's unlikely he was making a comment about my weight. Thanks for all of your support!
tortugera
Ppl like that should be required to call a meth addict when hurt or sick.
xnlhmardfrx88831415
Had a way of lying eloquently, fools!
Spartan322
Honestly shouldn't be calling random people pigs, I honestly consider blaming people specifically, not the org, evil enough, but that's dumb
BigTex1
Sounds exactly like what a pig would say.
DiscardPixel
Thank u for your work
RogueEnthusiast
This sounds like short story long to me.
trunotfalse
I got called "swine" in a Kroger while in my day-glo, gigantic lettered "EMS" uniform. Fuck it all, why bother
antoonz
Is @op a fellow jag-off from the burgh?
cas86
Karma would be the next call is to help that guy after he's been in an accident
indigogogogo
I always upvote Pittsburgh posters, good luck out there yins guys have a hard job.
wolfpackpgh
highland park represent!!!
GiantDadStatue
Don't think too much into it, bro. We hear it all in EMS, keep kickin ass and savin lives >:D.
Mattallica
Living in SoCal, I've noticed that the people who call cops pigs, are always the ones breaking laws.
somenerandom
I mean, it makes sense for there to be a correlation between breaking the law and having an irrational hatred toward law enforcers.
eddewarde
"similar to a police SUV" "it's purple and white" ... not good for rescue teams in tense situation
ForeverCheese
Cops are pigs until you need them. Then it's "thank god your here officer".
darkpoter
You shoulda shot him.
ftwcode
I'm not your "guy", buddy!
Groose
I hate human mentality that a few bad eggs amoung many makes them all bad. Doe this man make all humans douches? No, then why cops?
Net05
My problem with them is that somebody else called the ambulance when I needed a minute to get together. Instead I get strapped in, quickly
Net05
drugged and wake up 4 hours later after finding out there wasn't anything they needed to do to help me and a 50K+ bill. The only drug I was
Net05
caught with is what they used to knock me out with.
LosPer
The level of stupidity and ignorance in the average person should not be underestimated @op. Sorry man.
LeninsLeftistTesticle
Well if he needs medical help, you know who to avoid
Yepitsausername
Now imagine actually working for a police department. It's a very thankless job
stilldrunkenest
1/ Co-worker at a bar found a passed out drunk girl in the bathroom after close, paramedics called, she comes too as they are examining her
stilldrunkenest
2/ she screams "WHO'S THE RAT WHO CALLED THE FUCKING PIGS" and takes a swing at the paramedic, which is bold since she thought he was a cop
stilldrunkenest
3/3 Cops arrive quickly and she is screaming the entire time about finding out who "snitched" on her on the way to the drunk tank.
WeirdStealth
people these days are assholes and asshats, Law enforcement, fire fighters, and paramedics primary job is to protect and server the public.
WeirdStealth
But, people don't really care until they need their services.
MilkofAmnesia
People are shit. I’m usually in the truck or the bus (when LT. is mad at me), but I feel your pain. Don’t forget you’re making a difference
GuestChrist
You wouldn't happen to be from the Pittsburgh area, would you, OP? Guess how I'd know? You called somebody a jag-off.
IWasToldThereWouldBePie
Because the post didn't say "go eagles?"
antoonz
I love how this is almost the top comment. Good job, yinz.
FeartheDeer
Mrs T’s peirogis was a nice clue as well!
exosquadwasmyfavoriteshowwheniwasachild
I prefer the term jit-bag myself.
doggo
Yeah, yeah, we call 'em jagoffs in Chicago too.

Done and done already! As a seafood lover, I was in fucking paradise!
khensu83
I love watching people bitch about emergency response teams, ok next time don’t call for help. Ungrateful asshats. Keep up the awesome job.
TharrickLawson
In the UK there's a tendancy for people to call the emergency services, tell them there's a fire, and then assault the fire crews when they
TharrickLawson
get to the scene :( https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/firefighters-attacked-sixth-time-three-13753693
AlmightyDylon
The problem is education. I can't tell you how many times I hear "run, it's the fire police!" In bad neighborhoods. We aren't allowed to 1/2
AlmightyDylon
Wear our badges in those areas for fear of getting shot.
LMTMFA
why are there areas like that, and if there are, why aren't they razed to the ground
jj999124
Because thats 'illegal' and would be a 'felony' because we cant remove vermin
LMTMFA
Vermin sounds about right for "people" who's first response to seeing helpers is to shoot.
everythingisalieexceptthestuffthatisnt
That....hasn't worked so well in the past
LMTMFA
Well, we do have better razing equipment nowadays don't we? :P

A close friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver who was fleeing the police. Hit her head on over 100mph. I wish he made the same 1/2
MeowMyOvaries
Sorry.i understand and accept you condemning me for my actions, nothing makes it right. But i am greatful to pigs for arresting me and
AlPawchino
I respect police, paramedics, fire, and i think there are some really great police, and a handful of shit people ruin it for everyone.
kevinallover
Go on Thee Rant Blog and tell me how much respect you have for the average cop.
Musicosity
Fuck you, pig!
somenerandom
So, kinda like most groups of people?
brrpr
paramedics get physical attacked over here sometimes i dont get why you would do something like that to a doctor. i wouldnt do it to anyone
brrpr
but its a new kind of fucked up if you attack a person that is trying to safe a life in that moment ._:
jpb103
They see some of the worst things a person can see. Smells, sights and sounds that will haunt them forever. Stay mind healthy, @OP.
barnsandnobel
Wouldnt it be ideal for the great police to root out the bad ones for thier own sake?
Silvertip01
That's why they have internal affairs departments. They try but there is always going to be some assholes.
Tinyfish3
I imagine many do. Does your profession manage to root out every bad person doing whatever you do for a living?
SquirtleSquad420
Police that file complaints of any kind against other police officers get treated like shit for breaking "the brotherhood"
iLikeBeerandSquirrels
You're kidding, right? Many [police] whistleblowers are ostracized for doing the right thing and are often forced out of their department.
Zaranthan
No, but we occasionally root out SOME of them. When's the last time you heard about a cop actually getting convicted of something, 1/2
Jeber88
List of cops convicted and put in prison...https://www.ranker.com/list/ex-cops-in-prison/ranker-crime That's what you were wanting right?
Zaranthan
Exactly. Thanks!
Zaranthan
2/2 let alone fired for it?
DragonLordG
They automatically defend anyone who comes under public fire, but Internal Affairs does root those people out quietly later oftentimes.
MasterPrime
Michael Slager was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
MightBeFukingWithYouNow
Many many times. Google it. The stories don't make front page news for obvious reasons (you wouldn't have something to be upset about)
LostHonour
Most of the time it's considered bad Pr, due to the amount of them that get pushed out of the job for bring incompetent and the like.
AlmightyDylon
It happens all the time. But it's handled quietly. Bad press and all
HiddenSanity
There's been more of them as of late... but still not enough.
SquirtleSquad420
And if they get fired they move to another county and get hired as a cop again.
