So it’s not a mountain in space?

I’ve never seen space mountain with the lights off so....

true story, back in the 90s i was smol and they put me in the front seat alone. thought i was driving, was terrified & relieved to not crash

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I thought this was some miniature rollercoaster.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes anytime I ride this I make sure to stay scrunched up as small as possible lol

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I feel like this should have a minimum and maximum height requirement. You might end up losing your head.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Disney World’s Space Mountain, to clarify. Very unique compared to the others. A great ride- love the tight clearances.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many Bonthans died for this data.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Watching this feels wrong.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

With the lights out, it's less dangerous.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did this a couple times. Really surreal.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to work at Disney and they let the engineering co-ops ride with the lights on before the park opened. Scary as fuck. Watch your hands

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Going 80 MPH in your closet. That’s what I remember about it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It moves much slower than it feels. The enhanced sense of speed is due to fans blowing along the path of the ride.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The music helps a lot too.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Everyone loves roller-coasters.. until they go off the rails.. then they loose their minds..

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can I see it with the lights off now please?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

There’s not anything to see it’s just darkness with some dots to simulate stars

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where is this Disneyland

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That is The Magic Kingdom, which is part of Disney World, in Orlando, Florida.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

DLR one actually looks cooler on the inside.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see, i thought it was the Disney land at sunny bay Hong Kong the inside is similar

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ll never forget when an employee told me, “this ride sucks with the lights on— It just goes in circles.”

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Working for Disney sucked all the magic from their soul.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Space mountain in Disneyland Paris shits on this

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont like heights and space mountain never bothered me. Till i rode with lights on and looked down. Fml

Keep your fucking hands inside the vehicle at all times or else

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I've held my hand out too far on a disney roller coaster, they don't go that fast, it's not huge deal.

All that steel. Nowadays they build these things with a couple of fence posts and some rubber bands.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most disappointing reveal. Pissed me off in 8th grade.

US space mountain has no loops?

6 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 3

I was terrified of them as a kid and my cousin told me there were loops. I was scared shitless the whole ride. Turns out it was tame as fuck

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The Disneyland Paris ride is the only one of the 5 versions with inversions. The original was opened in 1975, which was right before 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

inversions became a major part of roller coasters. The other Space Mountains were based off the original, so no inversions, either.

6 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

No lööps?

6 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

No, brøther.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

*eats your sweater*

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And there's the people mover. Best ride ever

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I still miss the one in Anaheim.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's pretty awesome seeing the skeleton of it still in Anaheim

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True. Too bad the Rocket Rods cracked the pylons and if it comes back, it would need ADA upgrades.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that what happened? I had no idea! I rode that once and I dont think it lasted more than a year or so

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... I spent 10 minutes looking to see what happened to space mountain, when I realized you probably meant the car track that's above ground.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They also had those up and running earlier this year for a 90's nite event. Back in March if I recall... ... ... They even had Darkwing Duck

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been on Space Mountain when it stalled and the lights came on. It is a concrete room with glow in the dark stickers. Depressing.

6 years ago | Likes 365 Dislikes 13

For others, please stay in the cars when if the ride is stopped. People get injured when they climb out, and then try to sue disney. ugh.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At Univeral the Harry Potter ride broke down with me in the spider area... it was awful. Also, when I went to ride Space Mountain, it

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Roke down/had to be stopped 3 times while I was in line. Took over 3 hours to get through the line

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah me too, and then they came up and hand-pushed the cars until they could coast back to the boarding zone. Got some photos though.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had a lights on of the Rock one.. not as much fun\

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I heard there are fans facing the rise to induce a sense of moving faster than you're actually moving.

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

There are, turns out that blowing air at a kids face is way safer than launching them to warp speed in 100 yards

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

If that isn't a metaphor for all Disney "magic" I don't know what is.

6 years ago | Likes 201 Dislikes 3

ok - so, you might not want to ever watch a "Making of" DVD extra.... "Iron Man"?, "Darth Vader"? They are all ordinary people in costume...

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

There is quite a difference though. I went to Disney World for the first and only time 5 years ago. It's just a glorified mall. That's it.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Your local malls have rides, theatre shows and parades?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We went do disneyland for marching band and we were in "backstage disney" it's basically just a warehouse lot behind everything

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Damn should have been in orchestra, when we went we were featured on Good Morning America *hairflips*

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I sang in a christmas concert. 12 hours, SoCal heat (yeah, November) they only gave us water, if we ASKED.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What did you think was back there?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Big titty princesses...

6 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Did you think you were actually in space?

But it’s projectors, not stickers

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

They also use a disco ball like object to :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To what? :-0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make the stars appear all over the inside, the light reflected off is a bunch of little dots.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The freakiest part about Space Mountain is the sense that things are rushing right past your head. This video confirms everything.

6 years ago | Likes 893 Dislikes 8

First time going to Disney World was last year (23yrsold) I loved spacemountain. I hated the 1hr30m wait in line.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It's the reason why they say to not put your hands up on this ride in particular.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been on space mountain when this happened, after that I never put my hands up again.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed, I felt like I’d be decapitated at any moment

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You mean you get peter tingles?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is what I was thinking the entire time... Then I saw the comments! I'm 6'1" and was terrified to put my hands up

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6'1" can confirm

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*whole body scrunch*

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yup

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know how much $ you'd get if you loose a limb in the Mouse's house? You'd be gettin one of them fancy animatronic hands or sumthin! ;-)

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Maybe they will replace my head with a Jack Skeleton one. I would go for that.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 6'4" and I kinda just reflexively duck for most roller coasters. I also don't put my hands all the way up, either.

6 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

At 6"6, I duck and keep my arms down. Rode qwazi? Wooden coaster, thought I was going to die when it went into its side

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 5'10 but I identify as 6'6". I also duck for most roller coasters.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Exactly like this.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Geez at 6’4” I’m shocked you’re brave enough to put your hands up at all!

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Thanks to @buddasac for the perfect gif:

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6'3" here, do you also have a habit of dipping your head just a bit when walking under doorways?

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

6'7" here, it just happens automatically

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Because the moment you don’t bang that one doorway gets yah

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, and the master shower in the house we just moved to has a doorframe at about eyeball level -_-

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of this wooden rollercoaster i went on once at kemah boardwalk. So many parts were tunneled by more wood. Felt like my head was ¹

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Ahh yes the Boardwalk Bullet that's the most scared about being decapitated I've ever been on any ride that I remember.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Texas for the win. That is such a great ride.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

going to get knocked off and the structure was going to collapse. To be fair i was terrified of rollercoasters & my friend convinced me to ²

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Get on it since i had never been on one. It confirmed my fears, never again.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That rollercoaster is fun but it hurts lol. Fun fact, it was purchased from astroworld when it closed down.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That thing was so terrifying no wonder it felt like it would collapse any minute... it was ancient.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: you’re wrong, it was not purchased from Astroworld at all. There was only one wooden coaster there: Cylone & it was demolished.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I happened to be on the ride during a malfunction, they stopped it, turned on the lights and started it back up with the lights on.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

From what I remember it looked exactly like this, so I'd have to say this is the old version before they remodeled it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Malfunction? Someone got their hands caught didnt they

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No idea. The ride just stopped and we sat in the dark for a few minutes before the lights came on. Sat a few longer.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then finished the ride with the lights on. Then They shut it down.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More terrifying with the lights on. I go on space mountain once a month give or take. Seeing the structure gives me anxiety lol

6 years ago | Likes 352 Dislikes 9

Do they tell people not to put their hands up?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not that I remember. My favorite ride!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The lights came on one time while I was riding and it took me a LONG time to get back on it and that was the last time. Too much anxiety.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It loses the magic with the lights on. And it's so clunky without the sound effects.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh gosh I want to be your friend. Tell me about your adventures. I love a good disney story

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tall people. Watch you hands

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

Does this really happen though? I know some rides feel like my fingers could get cut off but I'm sure this is taken into account... Right?!

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If I remember right someone on thunder mountain got their hand (or some extremity) cut off. Sometime ago though

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They have special wood clearance markers they use I believe. Pretty much measure to the max distance a guest could reach and go through 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Slowly checking clearances. Usually you are ok if they have done their work. Wouldn’t be approved otherwise

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/a/hWzLnHX

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't they tell you to keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times? Doesn't keeping your arms down count?

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

But...in the pictures EVERYONE always has there hands up!! I'm terrified now!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's safe. It just looks a lot closer than it actually is

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they tell people not to put their hands up?

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Yes, I’ve been on it when they’ve stopped the ride because SOMEONE (most def was NOT, I’m lying, me...) put their hands up

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

/a/hWzLnHX they almost definitely do clearance tests similar to this to simulate the farthest reach someone may have.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I’ve easily ridden it 100+ times and I can never recall them every saying not to put your hands up.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Literally a video on the wall next to the coaster thats on repeat telling people to keep their hands in the ride.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Yes they do and there are signs too. Went to 8 parks in a week, high school trip. It was our running joke to say it with them on each ride.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The closest thing is telling people to keep their hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle. That doesn’t mean to not put your hands

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Directly above your head. It’s very typical behavior on a roller coaster, they don’t want you reaching out to the sides.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Common sense, self preservation. You can somewhat see the beams when on the ride, being scared of losing a finger should be enough.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I meant why ride space mountain 100 times if you feel like it will decapitate you, or otherwise lop off limbs/appendages?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
