it's saying to go away. It's doing a really good job of it, too! Please respect its wishes

They squeak!? Omg its such a cute nightmare spider!

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you got that close to my face with a camera I'd rear back and hiss at you too.

7 months ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

These are scary looking, but harmless. They chew their food and swallow it too.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn barking spiders.

7 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

As soon as I heard it squeak it's threat level dropped significantly. Lions don't roar when they hunt and if you hear a rattlesnake it's telling you to get back. Little guy doesn't want a fight, just to be left alone.

Dude is scared

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They get bigger.

7 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

I mean the internet has kinda exaggerated how big they get. About 2-3 times that size but nothing like alot of the fake pictures that circulate. A little bigger than a huntsman spider on average.

Is it like a red rocket kind of thing?

7 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is this a nest of eggs it’s guarding or just a domicile/territory?

Does it produce silk??

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What you get when you cross a spider and a scorpion, then throw in some more evolution

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's actually neither. Though it *is* an arachnid.

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And on lament terms it's both! Camel spider and wind scorpion.

Little spider is an actor; he is doing his part

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Camel spider (though they are not actually spiders).

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They are part camel though?

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It beeps!?!

7 months ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

In spiders it's called stridulation, it's a way they can make sounds by rubbing body parts together. It's like rubbing a stick against a chalkboard. There's a few videos of camel spiders (solifugae, also called sun spiders) doing this. It does seem like they boosted the hell out of it for effect, but it's a Spidey sound

7 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I thought these weren’t actually spiders

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Surely its edited!?

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

seems like Camel spiders can make sounds like that.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It isn’t, and don’t call me Surely

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nope. It's called Stridulation.

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They do make noise but it's the way crickets make noise, not from their mouths.

7 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Lil guy just wants to be left alone.

7 months ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 0

See normally I'd agree with you, but that's a camel spider, they live in the desert get around 15 cm large and they like to chase people.
To be fair they only chase their shadow and don't attack people unless you are stuid, but a bigass spider running at you at 15 km/h can scare the bejesus out of you.

Places I will never go: Desert-check!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

its cornered under a stone or smth. similar and not chasing anyone ;)

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's not technically true that they like to chase people. What actually happens is they chase the people's shadows. What happens is when they see shadow, they quickly scuttle towards it. Now imagine turning around and seeing this thing behind you, or even worse, this thing charging towards you (if your shadow is in front). So you panic, and start running, which makes your shadow move, which makes them 'chase' you'. https://www.livescience.com/40025-camel-spiders-facts.html

That's...that's what he said. Tldr?

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes, but also no

2nd commenter disagreed with the 1st commenter that said they just want to be left alone; By saying they chase you

Whether they added on the fact they chase shadows rather. not people in the latter, doesn't change the fact 2nd commenter made a purposely incorrect statement to begin with

Chasing shadows does not contradict the truth that they want to be left alone.

They are two separate facts and both are true

And they don't chase people at all, just shadows.

The ones in Afghanistan didn't get as large, definitely not as intimidating. We had one that lives under our smoking porch and at the bugs that clustered by the lamp. He was pretty chill, never bothered us.

7 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

What was his rank?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

did you guys name him?

7 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I know we did but I don't remember what it was anymore. It was probably something a bit racist tbh, that was definitely our sense of humor

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asking the real question.

7 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If that spider didn't have a name and rank I'll be real dissapointed.
