UK is making China blush

Lol, fuck off you limey cunts. And, if this happened in the U.S.? There’d be gunfire. No doubt.

Oh, the PRC's constitution guarantees free speech but political criticism counts as subversion of state power. Still somewhat harsher penalties that the UK for that...

If it's not "quite" that serious they can get you on charges of disturbing social order by "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" if you insult an official, for example. You shouldn't be inside for more than 5 years in such cases... nm.

"Can't explain too much. We wouldn't want you knowing the extent of your 'crime' and you calling out our bullshit before we have you in the back of the cruiser."

Even though he made it sound like Harrogate is a bad place, it is actually very lovely. Not nice enough to be dragged there but still nice

With regards to speech it went way beyond Orwell's top-down vision of authoritarianism many years ago.
They're referring to section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986 and technically all that's required is for *one* person to report that they feel "insulted" by the "perceived" "prejudice" of another. The degree to which that has been acted upon is what has changed since 1986.

the police giving him time to prepare things he needs and such shows just how much they realise this is ridiculous, but got orders from higher up and got to do it >_>

No that's just how they do it in civilized countries I've seen this same level of respect everywhere but the United States

Hm. Yeah this is worse than what we have in the US right now.

This has been going on for years in the UK. “Hate speech” laws are well intentioned (I hope), but imagine said laws being wielded by your worst enemy…..say, Trump. We’d all be in jail. So I will never favor such laws. Just let assholes say asshole things. Makes them easy to identify and ignore.

You have a point, but ignoring them clearly didn't work, so come up with another option, please.

I think it's a relatively popular procedure world over now whenever you're handling someone, for good or ill. Cops don't want to be exposed to who knows what might be on somebody (drugs, diseases and the like), and for those who take a more dim view of cops, it also makes it easier to plant evidence and get away with it. So it's a really flexible part of every cops routine.

As fucked up as this is, BE GLAD they didn't knock on your door in the middle of the night in the USA. This would be a COMPLETELY different interaction.

Lol, knock??? We got mofos repelling from Blackhawks onto your roof in the middle of the night now. This video is actually almost as scary, tbh, just for different reasons.

Does anyone know what he actually tweeted? I'm curious to see what speech the UK considers harmful enough to warrant arrest.

I think it's "F hamas, F israel, F palestine. go protest in a muslim country" lines over a palestinian flag.

Umm.. interesting. Thanks for the information.

It's "f Palestine f Hamas f Islam, want to protest? F off to a Muslim country & protest."
So hardly as neutral as your quote makes it seem.
He's been arrested because it's against the law to incite hatred against groups in Britain.
He's been arrested for similar stuff before.
All the news says anti Hamas but it's clear that it is anti Islam, he is a person that has been arrested for violent disorder during brexit.
