I dropped out of high school after my dad passed away when I was 16 years old. I ended up getting my GED a year before my class graduated, but I've always regretted my decision.
I am now happy to say that I'm a college graduate. It's just my associate degree, but it's a start. I plan to go back this fall to continue my education.
Working full time and going to college hasn't been easy, but it's well worth it.
I don't think I've ever been this proud of myself before...I just had to share.

Congrats!! I went from college drop out to finishing my doctorate. Follow your dreams, unless they're sucky dreams, then don't.

Why do these posts never include what OP is studying

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry didn't ever think about it. Business Management. However, I am thinking about choosing a different business focus, like human resource

Shit. I've still got a chance. Time to get cracking.

Fuck yeah op. Remember that if you do it right once, you won't have to do it again. That motto got me through college.

Good advice.

I used to think being a high school dropout with negatively define my life forever. I was so wrong. Just keep working hard!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, me too. There seem to be a lot of people with similar stories. I really appreciate everyone sharing.

What is OP studying?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Business Management. Though I'm leaning towards getting my bachelor's degree in Human Resources.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cool cool, you should also check out supply chain management or MIS if you find either interesting!

Good job, @op. Did similar, I won't expand this is your thread, but in short I went from expelled from school to computing degree.

Basically did they as well. Ran through all 4 years of HS, picked up GED since wouldn't grad. Now have Bach of Sci in Comp Sci. Work in IT.

I also did something similar, I was a high school graduate that ended up being a college drop out.

The are dozens of us! Good work op.

Thank you. Congrats on your success! It's always good to know that it's not too late to change the outcome of your life.

to my fellow 'high school was bs' brethren whom have also made it in life despite the naysayers.

Who knew the public education system is seriously flawed and underfunded? Guess that's why I have 2 college degrees and a GED.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People hear "GED" and automatically assume that you're not as smart as them bc they have a diploma. It took them 12 years

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to earn that, I did it with 10. I applaud everyone who has their GED and is proving that it doesn't make them any less intelligent

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dropped out of high school when I was 16 cause I decided it was a huge waste of time. Immediately got a degree in radio and another BS CSE

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice feeling isn't it? I was homeless at 16 and did not finish HS. Now I have an engineering degree, a house and a decent paid-off car

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

That's awesome! Honestly, I think that struggling when I was younger has made me appreciate life so much more as an adult.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It certainly gives a sense of perspective when someone is upset about something not going right for them at work.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you don't mind me asking, how old when you went back to school? 25 doing 2nd year of core for Mechanical/Aerospace here.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Coincidentally, I was 25. I struggled with it, took me a bit longer than most, but I graduated Chi Epsilon (National Civ. Eng. Honors Soc.)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! It's certainly not easy and this last two years is my first ever doing math. But congrats on CE honors!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's never too late to learn. Next time you see a homeless kid asking for change, realize he could be an Engineer some day. As will you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats! We get Bernie Sander's legislation through Congress, you might have a less expensive go at the rest. Seriously, awesome job.

Here's to hoping!

So then he will pay for his education with the 80% of his pay taken out of his check for life?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That was never, at any point, the plan.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Read the plan. Money comes from WallStreet fat cats.
