Theft and assault. Robbery is the act of using violence to obtain goods. In this case the goods have been obtained already
ThatsNoMoonThatsAGalaxy
I mean, she clearly doesn't have full possession of them, since he still has a grip on the bag.
She's been stopped outside with the stolen goods and brought back into the shop, hence the comment regarding the parking lot.
todayok
A ticket for theft. Well, that's a new one. Sounds fucky but ok, tell me.
areola51
Nc here, misdemeanors can be on a citation without arrest.
See, now we're getting somewhere. Does the store have to agree?
No its purely officers discretion. In this situation if the violence was used in correlation to tge theft it would be a robbery
It's like $75 here in Illinois. If the police don't wanna arrest them, they get a ticket. Good for kids instead of giving them a record
The police "not wanting" to arrest them is meaningless if the store wants to charge them. Still interested to know what ticket equals this.
heyrelaxfellayouneedarestguy
It does in Washington so long as she attempts to retain the stolen property

Muad
What is that limit? I mean, what happens below 500 and what above it? Finland has something like "petty larceny" <~500€, you only get fines.
~R$500 for half our minimum wage. Yes, they are trying to pass it as petty larceny, to take off the bottleneck from our justice system.

The whole "not allowed to stop shoplifters" thing doesn't matter much. In the grocery store I work at, a woman tried to steal her 1/2
2/2 groceries after her EBT wouldn't go through, and despite the store having a "don't get involved" policy, the woman at the
3/2 customer service desk ran after her and managed to get half the groceries back. The woman threw half of them in her car and shoved
4/2 the customer service woman out of the way and drove off. Luckily, she got her plate number.
MyDarlingFeet
What was the end of the story? Arrest? CSA got written up? EBT woman came back and apologized?

My job does NOTHING for the shoplifting that we get. I hate it so much. It's a chain store so they expect it either way.
Corvie
I've gone after shoplifters, but you have to pick your battles. Going after a couple 12 year olds has a lower chance of consequences 1/?
Over going after a strung out drug addict. You run the risk of getting stabbed. Knife or needle, both are equally possible. What gets me 2/?
Are the shoplifters that use kids to do their dirty work. I've seen as you do as 2 years old being taught to steal. Pathetic parents 3/3
dragotx
When I was in retail I had one come through with a toddler, a 5 year old, and one still in the carrier. She had the 2 mobile ones (1/2)
Grabbing stuff, she was grabbing stuff herself, and was putting it all in the carseat under the baby. When she realized we were onto (2/3)
I don't think he was an employee. Think he just stepped up after employee called police and she tried to leave.
No need to speculate, look it up. It's Rite Aid, they employ loss prevention agents, he is one. They wear plain clothes on purpose.

IamHereForTheComments
Yeah i would like to know if she is single
This happened in a Rite aid next to my home in Hillsboro (Portland) OR
Retailers have the right to detain a shoplifter with reasonable force assuming a crime was committed. Companies use policies saying no force
Alfscooby98
Sometimes LPO's can do that but only if the shoplifter is fighting back or attempting to flee. Ive seen it happen pretty often where I work
dobbythehouseelf
Well didn't they say in the video that he caught her in the parking lot?
Trecares
Yeah, you have to leave the premises without paying. Otherwise you're still just shopping, even if you take a cart past the registers.
We had an intercom code word that meant LPO was in distress. We were supposed to come help if physically able.
Same, at one of my old jobs. Only ever happened once, but it was fun.
RolloDumbassi
Local security guard in the UK killed a shoplifter recently. No mercy!
criticalmassdriver
An LPO is not allowed legally to detain any one. They can make a civilian arrest if and only if they see them commit a felony.
Is that determined by state law?
They have no right to detain by federal law they can request that you don't leave they can follow they can contact authorities.

That is Rite Aid. We always had loss prevention person and they will handle situations like this if necessary.
Worked for them. Was in the ghetto and had no loss prevention. So much theft.
I bet! We had a high volume store and there was always theft. The loss prevention always wore typical clothes and that clearly helped.
If we saw them put something in their bag we would call the police. They were there ALL the time.
floxsyu
was security for them a little while. our company had a nontouch type agreement. LP was pissed off that i didn't grab a lady running out.

todayok
A ticket for theft. Well, that's a new one. Sounds fucky but ok, tell me.
areola51
Nc here, misdemeanors can be on a citation without arrest.
todayok
See, now we're getting somewhere. Does the store have to agree?
areola51
No its purely officers discretion. In this situation if the violence was used in correlation to tge theft it would be a robbery
EggOfWisdom
It's like $75 here in Illinois. If the police don't wanna arrest them, they get a ticket. Good for kids instead of giving them a record
todayok
The police "not wanting" to arrest them is meaningless if the store wants to charge them. Still interested to know what ticket equals this.
heyrelaxfellayouneedarestguy
It does in Washington so long as she attempts to retain the stolen property
theltrain
I stole a hat, and didn't resist the cops at all. Still got arrested.
sendnukes
Technically, you didn't steal it if you got caught.
Eireman4Ever
Some stores have a policy of having all shoplifters arrested and advertising the fact to discourage crime.
EggOfWisdom
Don't steal hats
turkletoon
Try again, maybe it'll work this time.
turkletoon
Also, don't steal things!
Individualsocksinthewashingmachine
Yeah that's still like, a crime
theltrain
Yeah and I was 1y

So not a child
TrustMeImABassist
I'll keep that in mind next time I see a thing I want.
turkletoon
Seriously, keep it under like 50 bucks and you're fine.
TrustMeImABassist
Here in Brazil they are trying to rule it to R$500 (~160 trumps)
Muad
What is that limit? I mean, what happens below 500 and what above it? Finland has something like "petty larceny" <~500€, you only get fines.
TrustMeImABassist
~R$500 for half our minimum wage. Yes, they are trying to pass it as petty larceny, to take off the bottleneck from our justice system.
doctormellow
Oh I see, making it all political by dropping the Donald's namesake! /s
TrustMeImABassist
We call our currency "Little Coups" actually

xLuffyx
Seems she can't believe a man was forceful with her and no one cared. Looks like she's used to using that line and getting her way.
CandidGamera
Or maybe she's an abuse victim. Who knows. Well okay, she's a woman, so she's gotta be a bitch, right, fellow basement dweller?
dotdogs
What pisses me off is the other employee telling him "she's smaller than you." That bitch deserves a takedown, regardless of being a girl.
glitchead
YES THANK YOU. Be a gentleman, watch your language, don't fight back because she's smaller. Is she fucking SERIOUS?!
Pawnderlust
She doesn't even deny shoplifting. She even says why not when he says you can't shop lift here
feastmode
Imgur keyboard psychology is funny
jensck
Even worse, this instills doubt in people's minds so that when a woman HAS been attacked, people are less likely to believe her
Hellstorm99
The woman in the light blue shirt was initially trying to get the guy to let go, but thankfully the other employee intervened.
Imgurislongerfunny
Because 99% of the time you could get fired for that. Retail sucks.
ThePrimrose
The guy is the security guard he is there to do that exactly.
Imgurislongerfunny
I worked at Sears and rite aide. Even the security officers were asked not to intervene with cases like this
ThePrimrose
Loss Prevention is told do do this exactly at Target.
Hellstorm99
I get the feeling he is manager or something.
shreddedking
the way she targeted her knee at that mans genital also suggested some deep seated abusive behaviors
TheJonatron
Err, the way she's shoplifting suggests she's fucked up. Not that she's gonna knee a dude in the nards when he's got her overpowered.
zutaramyotp
I'm a girl who has never been in a fight before, but if I were fighting a guy I would go for the balls. I'm not defending her just saying
zutaramyotp
that's not really a good conclusion to draw.
pancreas
exactly. People are making a mountain out of a molehill on this shit.
usernmae
I've never been abused and I know a knee to the groin is effective. It's not rocket science- knee to balls=pain.
SneakEFoxxe
I don't think they mean she's been abused. They're saying she's been abusive in the past/has experience attacking guys that way
Raxiel
As owner-operator of a set of testicles, can confirm
KLMairlines
Not saying bitch ain't crazy, but.....Sometimes a knee to the groin is just effective, not a sign of mental illness....
MrMallIronmaker
If I understand correctly, it means she's been abused and she knows how to fight effectively.
Deadpoolio7
Somanyquestions
Targeting the groin is something you learn in first grade, abuse or not.
KLMairlines
Or she learned how to fight effectively without being abused? Just saying we can't tell either way from a short clip.
MayorofLoserville
Im no expert but usually people talk and when the get caught they admit it, not attack the get and get arrest for both.

Lol once caught a frat boy taking money off the bar. He literally said "it's cool bro, I steal."
mikekearn
"It's cool, bro, the bouncer breaks people's arms. It's just a prank, bro! Why you crying like a bitch?"
m053486
That's almost what happened. One of the kitchen guys was an amateur MMA fighter (Kyle Baker, good dude). Frat bro wisely returned the cash.
mikekearn
Some people are only capable of learning the hard way. And some sad souls never learn even then.
DrunkSnoopy
Someone knows how to be a camera man right, great quality
Goddamnitmisterrnoodle
"Be a gentleman". Can't believe that was actually said given that event.
HamSlammer456
Plus that old lady who's just hanging out right next to the cops while they're cuffing blondie. The Hell out of the way lady!
HelloMyNameIsHuman
Good quality, filmed in landscape, isn't all shaky... damn that's what's up.

And at 3:19, guy in purple just..."Hey everyone, excuse me, just gonna stroll by here with what I bought legally, don't mind me."
poptartfartsfortheheartsmart
In the video sue sounds like the "sovern citizen" arrested from a car stop. Sry I don't remember what video it was.
dordiebob
Cops came in, didn't shoot the black guy, nice!
thepurpletwitch
Damn where does he work? Usually workers can't go after shoplifters like that. Good for him
SaticoySteel
Looks like a rite aid
twitchlove
Depends on your state, but many jurisdictions allow it. See, "shopkeeper' privilege".
ISupportYourViews
Taking down shoplifters is standard procedure here in Oklahoma. Exept for Quik Trip. They forbid their employees from chasing them.
jiynxed
Yeah if he's not a cop his ass is fired faster than he can blink. Even an lpo can't do THAT
zed00m
The LPO guy where I used to work chased a girl three blocks because she stole a toothbrush and some shampoo.
TennSeven
No, usually they can. Look up "shopkeeper's privilege" and associated laws.
OuchYoureonmyhair
At Kmart, once they were out the door, we couldn't even ask to look in their bag.
FarNorthFarLeft
That's exactly what I was thinking.
UnpopularOpinionated
If the guy gets any shit for this, I'm gonna flip.
RecurringNightmare
you should broaden your horizon...here everyone can get after every kind of suspect exactly like that...

It will have to be a conjugal visit now.

Maybe he wasn't an employee.
TheGamingBaconator
The whole "not allowed to stop shoplifters" thing doesn't matter much. In the grocery store I work at, a woman tried to steal her 1/2
TheGamingBaconator
2/2 groceries after her EBT wouldn't go through, and despite the store having a "don't get involved" policy, the woman at the
TheGamingBaconator
3/2 customer service desk ran after her and managed to get half the groceries back. The woman threw half of them in her car and shoved
TheGamingBaconator
4/2 the customer service woman out of the way and drove off. Luckily, she got her plate number.
MyDarlingFeet
What was the end of the story? Arrest? CSA got written up? EBT woman came back and apologized?
kissmyassets
I think it was cvs
melshot
CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aide. Let's be real, they are pretty much the same thing. No offense.
dinobots56
The one in blue is a wellness ambassador. Totally rite aid
Omni21
Instant firing at The Home Depot if you stop someone. All you can do is make them uncomfortable by following/asking if they need help.
SometimesImReady
My job does NOTHING for the shoplifting that we get. I hate it so much. It's a chain store so they expect it either way.
Corvie
I've gone after shoplifters, but you have to pick your battles. Going after a couple 12 year olds has a lower chance of consequences 1/?
Corvie
Over going after a strung out drug addict. You run the risk of getting stabbed. Knife or needle, both are equally possible. What gets me 2/?
Corvie
Are the shoplifters that use kids to do their dirty work. I've seen as you do as 2 years old being taught to steal. Pathetic parents 3/3
dragotx
When I was in retail I had one come through with a toddler, a 5 year old, and one still in the carrier. She had the 2 mobile ones (1/2)
dragotx
Grabbing stuff, she was grabbing stuff herself, and was putting it all in the carseat under the baby. When she realized we were onto (2/3)
MasTequila
I don't think he was an employee. Think he just stepped up after employee called police and she tried to leave.
dandelionwino
No need to speculate, look it up. It's Rite Aid, they employ loss prevention agents, he is one. They wear plain clothes on purpose.
rankdank69
This was in Oregon
bayardthebloodhound
Some places have security that don't wear uniforms.
castianstuff
Yea i got caught by one as a kid when i tried to steal a toy from walmart
MrPredator
Eeyup. It's very rare it can happen. Policy is in place since assholes lawyer up if they get so much as a paper-cut, demanding $25mil.
IamHereForTheComments
Yeah i would like to know if she is single
SirDoItALot
This happened in a Rite aid next to my home in Hillsboro (Portland) OR
EggOfWisdom
Retailers have the right to detain a shoplifter with reasonable force assuming a crime was committed. Companies use policies saying no force
Alfscooby98
Sometimes LPO's can do that but only if the shoplifter is fighting back or attempting to flee. Ive seen it happen pretty often where I work
dobbythehouseelf
Well didn't they say in the video that he caught her in the parking lot?
Trecares
Yeah, you have to leave the premises without paying. Otherwise you're still just shopping, even if you take a cart past the registers.
physicsisabitch
We had an intercom code word that meant LPO was in distress. We were supposed to come help if physically able.
mikekearn
Same, at one of my old jobs. Only ever happened once, but it was fun.
RolloDumbassi
Local security guard in the UK killed a shoplifter recently. No mercy!
criticalmassdriver
An LPO is not allowed legally to detain any one. They can make a civilian arrest if and only if they see them commit a felony.
physicsisabitch
Is that determined by state law?
criticalmassdriver
They have no right to detain by federal law they can request that you don't leave they can follow they can contact authorities.
GavinScreaming
I'm a worker and I wouldn't even care
dotdogs
Exactly. I'd still be making 7.50 an hour no matter what the outcome was.
DWandRFaremyspiritbeings
30 years ago when I worked at a grocery store, our manager would full-on football tackle shoplifters and duct tape their hands behind their
dracoslayer16
Grocery store i worked at the manager did the same thing but minus the duct tape, lotta people tried to walk out the door with 30 packs.
ytseone
What if he duct-taped them to himself and just went about the rest of his work day.
IamaWalrusInDisguise
You're one of few people that have made me genuinely laugh. You earned that +1 good sir.

G1ngerBoy
We need people like this now days
randolphjcarter
Seems a little excessive.
M4X1N10S
Not if you're losing money consistently. I'd be pissed to see product walking out of the door too
RobJenkins
M4X1N10S
Lol, now THAT'S excessive!
minimumvoltage
That is Rite Aid. We always had loss prevention person and they will handle situations like this if necessary.
dinobots56
Worked for them. Was in the ghetto and had no loss prevention. So much theft.
minimumvoltage
I bet! We had a high volume store and there was always theft. The loss prevention always wore typical clothes and that clearly helped.
dinobots56
If we saw them put something in their bag we would call the police. They were there ALL the time.
floxsyu
was security for them a little while. our company had a nontouch type agreement. LP was pissed off that i didn't grab a lady running out.
floxsyu
heard him talking to manager about how lazy I am, 5 minutes later says "we brothers gotta stick together" like bitch fuck you.
tskman
I worked at home depot and they said we can't even look for a license plate or we could be fired. I watched a guy walk out the door with 1/2
tskman
A cart full of Power tools and just shrugged and let management know. It was pathetic how mad they got at us for it then said don't stop it
floxsyu
basically I was visual aid only. manager was great at that store, she would throw people out whenever she wanted.
