My android device died, so now I'm voiding the warranty on this new one.

Touchwiz... but I'm an advanced user.

Information about battery is basically still the android UI. Certain other things (specifically, samsung's touchwiz modifications) are too intense for me to [easily] make many changes.

I really like knowing what my battery is doing

I got rid of the entire touchwiz launcher / desktop / launcher. It was actually burning more power than most of the core android functionality. I put in a 4-year old launcher with no icons, and just have a single widget loaded (the "Battery Monitor Widget Pro" one -- fullscreen)

... I decided to keep it simple. I only need 2 Gestures for everything launcher-related:

* (swipe down) to reveal the app drawer if I need to launch an app.
* (swipe up) to reveal the status bar in case I want to know if my 4G/LTE connection has signal, info about GPS, or want to view the notifications drawer, etc. etc. etc.

I have no idea if samsung included an easy way to take screenshots.

Easy to add while replacing the hideous touchwiz power menu (long-press power button) ...

... in addition to adding a 3rd power-related soft-button which boots my TWRP partition
(technically, any recovery image I have loaded. TWRP is just popular, and I know it works well)

The "free" version of this widget / app has advertisements...

Very few changes to functionality, but downloading and displaying ads DOES use a bit more power, so the pro (paid) version is the one I use here. I've had the device less than 72 hours, so historical data isn't yet statistically significant...

Estimates WILL improve after more historical datapoints are available about my battery usage.

I'm not sure how this compares to the kinds of info / estimates provided by the core android battery info UI [android is opensource, and the battery UI is something which is included as part of samsung's touchwiz]

... I just know I've been using battery widget monitor pro since back in the days of android 2.2.x "froyo", and I really like the way it works. (it's still actively maintained and nobody is paying me to say this -- the pro version supports a great developer, and I consider it worth every penny since I really do like knowing what's going on with my battery)

Average usage: 1% battery drain per hour

I mean, screen was off a few times (like when I was sleeping) but I really like the way ARM Cortex-A53 is optimized low battery usage.

Like seriously I think the best feature of my new tablet is that the SoC is a low power one rather than the mega-wasteful "high performance" chip in my previous / 2-generations older android device (which was not only an older less-optimized architecture, but also used a less refined manufacturing process, etc. etc. etc.)

My (older device which died) gave me at most 7 hours of screen-on time (usually 5 or less) versus this new one which looks like it'll be comfortably pulling off all-day usage.

... Like I went to bed, and I'm STILL not feeling like I need to charge it this next morning!!!

This is epic! +1. I've never even thought about trying this kinda thing

Aww, thanks :) Best use of TWRP recovery (assuming you have an unlockable bootloader) is Xposed so you'll be able to tweak beyond root apps.

WTF no way. I really used less than 6% battery per hour yesterday while playing pokemon go? I love this new SM-T377P tablet. So efficient!!!

Was indoors with the screen brightness turned to the lowest intensity I could still read clearly without giving myself eyestrain, but still.

Try Nova Launcher. Have used it for 4 years now (on S4, S5, and Tab S) and love it. 1/

Nova uses way more battery. I'm using a much older launcher which dates back to when Android Froyo was the most popular version of android.

Also try All-in-one Toolbox. Allows you to control what auto boots. Install the Auto Task Plugin to kill repeated opening background apps 2/

Turn off anything to do with 'gestures'. 3/
