Mom blames transphobic law after library blocks her disabled son's restroom use -

Can 'adulthood' be based on maturity instead of chronological age? I feel like the way this is handled amounts to a glitch that is abused by a large number of Americans.

No, it's not a mishandled customer service moment. It is the law. Same with Mom's bringing their infant son into the Women's room to use the changing table. It's a fuck-you law.. it fucks you.

What kind of asshole is offended by a parent helping a child of any gender--- oh, oh, yeah, I remember, THAT kind of asshole.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uhh... article says another woman in the restroom objected to a male entering, and that the library suggested she just use the available gender neutral restroom. That seems perfectly reasonable. Seems like maybe the library isn't to blame here.

How bananas is it that a literal Wild Karen is in the right here?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ALL Republicans are Nazis. Those that aid them are collaborators with no value.

By "slight uptick in unsafe activities" in the library restroom, did she mean sex? ‘Cause that’s the only SLIGHTLY unsafe use I can think of.

The GQP doesn't give a fuck about collateral damage, as long as the people they want to hurt are hurt.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh no! the cis gendered are being effected by these bigotted laws too? Boo fucking who. These backwards shitholes in america, i don’t live there or will ever visit.

How long until conservatives are going to attack airlines for only having a unisex bathroom in planes?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When we said these bills wouldn't hurt JUST trans people, this is a prime example.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Next time just help him piss in the floor

Depending how old her son is, it’s going to become a problem everywhere eventually in restrooms that aren’t oners. There needs to be family restrooms for kids with disabilities. That said, they could have just let them use the staff washroom.

trans people have been saying that anti trans laws with negatively affect cis people too for ages. hopefully more people realize it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We need to get rid of gendered bathrooms.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So, quick question: Do they not have doors on the stalls in the ladies restrooms? Cause guys have them. Ya'll should demand those.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is all baked into the law itself. Laws like this aren't just passed to control trans folks, they're meant to control everyone. It's just easier to pass them in the name of morality or decency against "degenerates". This law will be used against cis folks at any opportunity and more wide-reaching laws will be right around the corner to make it official once these ones become the new norm. It won't stop unless we stop it by force.

A Karen Wild appears... and seems to be correct

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

This is a bit of rage bait. The library had 3 gender neutral bathrooms for use, and employees pointed them out to the Wilds. Karen Wild didn't realize they existed.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I dream of a world where every location just has 2~4 single occupant unisex bathrooms with at least one clearly labelled as having a changing station.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wild, Karen?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes. Bad laws hurt a lot of people

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

The entire intention behind these laws is to hurt people.

Soon 2 year old boy would not be allowed in women's room with his mom because of dumb law. Let the 2 year old try to use bathroom by himself and hope there's an available male employee with strong constitution to clean up his mess. Wiped his ass on the wall? Not mom's problem because she can't use men's room and he can

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

can't* go with his mom in women's room

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The library should allow use when the restroom is empty. Wow, security guards for restrooms. "Help security, I made a Loch Ness monster and it won't flush."

Restaurant I worked at in Durham, NC just had two bathrooms with no sign on either, baby changing station & disposals for feminine products in each. Never had any complaints, but it was a pretty small place. As long as you're not pissing on the seats, I don't care who used it before me.

Does Kansas really have bathroom security guards now, or was that just added to existing security guard duties? Imagine that line in the job description: "Identify birth gender and enforce gender specific bathroom regulations."

2 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 1

Flat chested, short haired women? Must drop pants to prove she's a she or use men's room instead and violate the law? Law is really stupid

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And if she drops her pants to prove, then she is breaking a different law.

Found a second job for all those Catholic priests!

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Chaotic Good moment: apply for that job and then simply collect a paycheck for doing nothing and by doing so, do a great good.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

It makes it seem like the security guard barred their entrance, but it might make more sense if what it was relaying was that another woman in the bathroom at the time complained to security and then the guard told them not to use that bathroom. If the guard was there to stop them, it's kind of weird that a woman inside the bathroom would be complaining? Maybe it's describing multiple trips?

Besides all the politics I’m surprised the library doesn’t have a disable access toilet or whatever you call it in that area.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They did, they asked her to use it instead.

Thanks

The leopards eating people's faces bill was supposed to eat other people's faces.

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 10

"Surely there'll be an exception for me!"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

“But surely there’s an exception in the law,” says the librarian pretending it’s a customer service issue

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I don't see anywhere in this article that she was pro the bill. She most likely was very against it, considering her niece is trans, and she is close enough with them to consider her a caretaker.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

More pointing out that it's a bill designed to be cruel, that ended up being cruel to a wider group than intended.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's oppression, it's designed to hurt everyone who isn't the oppressor, all malice is intended

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are people so concerned with people peeing and pooping? I don't get it. Do you have gendered bathrooms in your homes, republicans?

2 years ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 0

You could be molested by someone other then a cop or clergy member in there! We wouldn't want!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a man I support women only toilets so that they dont need to wallow in the filty fucking scummy toilets many men leave behind.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TBF, what happens in too many Religious Right homes (Sex and physical abuse) gives them real concerns about what could happen in public restrooms. Every accusation is an admission? Or, as one philosopher opined, "Suspicion of others is merely knowledge of oneself."

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, just a stamp for the forehead: "Shit for brains."

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

they aren't. They're using this, like the trans people in sports thing (there's like four of us, total) as a wedge and to harm people

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

This is their current step, they want to regularize this so they can get away with worse stuff. The worse stuff? The shit happening in Florida where they're stealing transgender kids from parents.

GOP is losing on a lot of fronts and has no policy, the Culture war against LGBTQ people is a place they can still achieve votes. The GOP only wants votes and power, they do not want to do what is best for all Americans.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Republicans want to rule, not represent.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep they enrich themselves and fuck over everyone else while they do it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh they have policy, it's just so deeply unpopular to the majority of Americans that they have to shroud it in divisive, vile culture-war lies. All they have left in the tank is lies, hate and fear.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's also a women's rest room. Stalls. Nobody can see what you are doing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Republicans hope to change that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stalls are not sound proof and assisting family members in a public washroom rarely involves just using a stall. regardless, these laws are simply a solution in search of a problem that doesn't exist. It simply emboldens transphobe assholes into bullying trans people.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is also pretty standard practice for any parent with a young child of the opposite gender.

2 years ago | Likes 226 Dislikes 0

Yup, was peeing in urinal and some dude walked in with his little daughter. Felt a bit weird, at first, but I thought to myself "wtf else is he supposed to do?" And carried on like a fucking adult should.

Exactly

I have an autistic son. He’s 11 and he’s taller than me. I have had to have the “he’s autistic fuck off” conversations so many times. He can talk but he is not able to tell me if someone touches him. He cannot protect himself. I fucking hate these people.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Even after my son learned to use the bathroom himself I still took him into the women’s with me cuz there’s a high risk of him being raped or kidnapped in a public restroom alone.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Is there? You really have that little faith in us guys?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 31

I have that little faith in PEOPLE. A small child or a child with a disability like the original post don’t need to be left alone in public places.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Umm do you not see the constant stream of ex police officers, evangelical pastors and conservative youth group leaders who are constantly getting arrested for raping and molestjng small boys and girls? It’s not me and you they need to worry about. It’s the predators who DO exist. It happens ALOT. Even incest isn’t uncommon in mostly deep red states. I’m starting to see a pattern hmmm

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Ok find me some stat on children being raped in public bathroomd.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 19

I was somewhere around 8 or 9?... taking a shit in a restaurant/hotel bathroom. The urinals are right there next to the stalls. A dude comes and takes a piss then tries to start a convo with me, telling me my parents left and they sent him to come get me. Just meet him outside when I'm done. Short story shorter: I never went out to him. Point is, yes, things happen.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yes but often enough to distrust every man? Why not keep your kids locked up at home then, since theres a chance something could happen to them anywhere?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 21

Take the L, Dude.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Buddy, that's a big jump from, "I take my young children with me into the bathroom so I know they're safe," to "I can't go anywhere at all for safety's sake." Like, you'd hold your kids hands while crossing a street right? You'd tell them not to talk to strangers? Boy, better not go anywhere because you distrust every driver or you distrust every single new person you encounter. Get a grip - it's not personal.
