Someone commented on one of my previous posts about wanting a follow up of starting my medication. So, they work great. Like, why the hell did I wait this long to try them? On Wednesday itll be 3 weeks since starting them and I am so amazed by how much of a difference it's made. Tasks are just tasks and not giants mountains of stress. When a bad thought pops into my brain I'm able to process it, then move on whereas before I would feel like crap for the rest of the day. My sex drive is just as healthy as before which I heard is usually a big issue. I lucked out in all aspects. If you're thinking about trying any medication talk to your doctor because it could really be what you've been needing.

FP edit: All I have to say is WOW. Thanks, guys, for all of your support, advice, and kinds words. For everyone wondering what I'm taking its Amitriptyline. The first week I did get that out of it/zombie like feeling, but that has subsided and now I feel amazing. It's how I felt like as a child before my mental issues started. You're not alone. I love you guys and if anyone needs to talk I'm here.

I've never done SSRIs, but LSD was quite helpful. SSRIs are too unpredictable for me.

My first psychiatrist appointment is Wednesday. Still nervous to get on medication, but I’m optimistic

Remember, if you can't make your own neurotransmitters, store bought is fine!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I fuckin lucked out- found something that helps first try and my dick still works.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Schwing!

If you can't make your own for whatever reason, store-bought is fine.

Meds are different for everyone. It's smart to keep this in mind when you try them. This for everyone else, not you OP. I'm proud of you, OP

My antidepressant helps me cope with my chronic conditions; the medication seems to change the way my body perceives pain.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I waited until 30 and it’s been about two months now. First three weeks were hell, but I’m back to being functional again. Good for you @OP!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks :3 happy for you too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If your sex drive is impacted by your antidepressants, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. There are things that can help. Wellbutrin helped me with that.

Stick around and post on other people's depressed posts. Whenever I bring up drugs I get downvoted for some reason.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Someone downvoted because they didn't believe I get downvoted.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Congrats. Feeling better is awesome.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Thank you and hell yeah, it is!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey friend, I'm proud of you. Keep an eye on other side effects though.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’ve captured my feelings exactly! Why the fuck did I wait 20 years to fix my dumb brain

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because the world tells you drugs are bad :p I mean, most are, but some do help

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hi OP, Please use this time to change your routines. Schedule a few walks per week, Make sure to get in touch with friends regularly. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The changes you make may get you off meds at some point feeling fine. And even if not, they will improve your life. You're gonna be fine :)

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I take an anti-anxiety med and an anti-depressant. Pp works and I feel like a normal person.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not taking medication for mental issues is like a diabetic not taking insulin. Both are needed to live & shouldn't be questioned.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yesss. Everyone just makes it seem like antidepressants are a big no no.

I started 25 years ago. I can't go without my meds, I became better than well. I preach getting them where ever I go.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how I feel!!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for you dude!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on something for a little while and a side effect was decrease sex drive but all it did was make me last longer. Wife was thrilled

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only three weeks? Give it time.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

This.... I initially felt great in the first few weeks of starting mine and then it crashed hard. Now I'm mostly in a state of indifference

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Same happened to me

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh, that's wonderful. I'm hoping medication can help with my daughter's anxiety. My poor baby. Well, she's 15,but still my little baby

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And such a hard age anyways, I really hope you both find something that helps. Meditation and regular exercise can work wonders too

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its a tough age for sure. I'll suggest meditation

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it can. I hope you guys find something that will work!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She's in therapy and it's a slow process. I just feel terribly helpless. She deserves to be happy.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I understand :/ but just remember the fact that you are there with her is already so much of help to her. We all just wanna know we have

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone supporting us.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been on em since i was 13..i now have no creativity

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

That's unfortunate I'm sorry :/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you..its all good tho..20 years on and i now have th correct diagnosis..bit late but maybe i can get better after all

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, that's good. The correct diagnosis is the first step. I'm rooting for you

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you kind stranger

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't think they killed the drive so much as being able to orgasm.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oof that's even worse Haha. I havent experienced that yet. Sex has been great for me cause my anxiety always made me more self conscious so

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

now I dont really feel like that and can just focus on the sex

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s awesome!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Zang!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Serious question: do you miss your sex drive if it dissapears? I was on meds that made mine go away, noticed when 1/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well I would miss it because I enjoy sex very much.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I stopped the med & my drive came back like a month later. I am not dating anyone,no expectation to preform. I wouldn't say I missed it 2/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anybody here had anything similar? I'm curious.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from what people here have said, it's the inability to orgasm when masturbating, or during sex, that was problematic

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yikes.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Boy do i wish i could get meds. Have no money, and parents don't believe in mental health issues, so i lay in bed and waste away.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm really sorry :/ I would just keep urging your parents that you really need to talk to someone. Even if all the let you do is see a

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

therapist. Dont give up please. I am here if you ever need to talk

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not giving up any time soon, don't worry. I got them to let me see a free counselor, but as cool a dood as he was he didn't really-

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tell me anything I don't already know. He sent an email to my parents recommending professional help but they still don't seem to think-

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's worth it. They've made it very clear they don't believe this could possibly be a medical issue so they still insist I just need the-

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

then there are things you can do, even walking around your block and getting fresh air is a positive change for you

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I know. I managed to walk around the block every morning for like a week once. My good habits rarely last longer than that.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got myself drinking mostly water for like a year, that was helpful. Then I went back to soda addiction when this Covid shit started,

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but a soda worked me into an anxiety attack yesterday so I'm making myself get back on that habit RN.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for you! now you can make it into a game, change it up, different routes, or timing yourself and beating your last time. You're just...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

getting bored with the same old thing after a week. Go a different direction, choose new neighborhood, everything helps to tickle your brain

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's...a prett good idea. Thanks friend. Best wishes.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What did you end up with? My experience is that they make you a drone with no emotion

5 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

Wow I figured out how to do that without the medicine

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

1/Different drugs are going to do different things for different people. If one drug made you feel that way, another drug might not. Talk to

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2/2 your doctor and you can see if there are other treatments that might work better for you if you want to try again.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I tried several before finding one that worked. The drone feeling went away after a couple weeks.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Of course, I also have anxiety, so having it be quiet inside my head for once was pretty awesome

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was my experience. But sex drive was fine....

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, mirtazapine worked amazingly....for 9 weeks.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sometimes it's not the med specifically but dosage and timing of dose(s), it can take a bit of tinkering to get it right

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had that reaction to anti-psychotics/mood stabilizers. I just stopped taking those and took an actual antidepressant instead.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm super resistant to ssris, ssnis, and benzos. Ended up trying an anti-convulsant for severe anxiety. Lyrica works wonders for me.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lyrica is a fantastic medication and the superior option (vs benzos) for GAD. That being said, do not suddenly stop. I had seizures

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And they just came out with a generic. With a goodrx coupon it's around $16 for 75mg twice a day.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Be careful with Lyrica (& gabapentin) as it can be addictive and has potential for abuse. Sadly, I speak from experience.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on type. SNRI's have worked well with minimal side affects. SSRI's do the opposite of what they should for me. Trycyclics work...

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But side affects are nasty.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its different for everyone! Try to see a therapist and ask for referral to psychiatrist if you're having trouble. Asking a GP is like

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Asking a surgeon to treat pneumonia, they kind of know what theyre talking about but they shouldn't be your first choice

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I got that for about a month after I started, but after that I properly felt positive for the first time in years

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fluoxetine btw (Prozac I think) tbh too many doctors just default to SSRIs

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel great. I'm actually happy. I'm taking amitriptyline and it's only the starting dosage.

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Amitriptyline is the only thing that worked that quickly for me. It DID mess up my sex drive though :( helps a lot w/ chronic pain too!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That stuff gave me the weirdest dreams!

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same, but honestly, my dreams were already pretty strange Haha. But I can sleep now and I dont have nightmares anymore

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just started citalopram last week, got some side effects but I'm waiting to see the effects of the full dosage in a few weeks

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Also on it. Had to up dosage once in 10 years.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been on escitalopram for over a year now & it's been amazing! Trying to stop drinking in order to get full effect & that's been tough..

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can do it! I also cut my drinking drastically. I only have a beer now if I do drink.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been taking it for 7 years and going. Had some minor side effects that went sweet quite quickly.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

*away

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They put me on those for migraines. I didn’t realize while I was taking it, but I stopped dreaming and really didn’t feel like myself.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, I'm sorry you felt that way :/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad it helped you though! Everything effects everyone in different ways

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very true, and thank you!
