Stallions get great big thick necks (and big old jug heads) as a result of testosterone exposure. A mare or gelding of the same breed would have a much more slender neck and smaller head.
They have no idea how big they are. My friend's Clydesdale used to run to him to play but one day accidentally knocked him down and stepped on his leg but he worried about him being hurt so he stayed there to keep an eye on him

Wow. I took my parents out for the day and took them on a wine tour. Went to the toilet and as I walked back to the table this horses head as big as my torso came over the fence and snagged me. It pulled me against the fence and gave me a cuddle. Once I had gotten over the shock I put my arms around it and told it how beautiful it was. Wouldn't let me go and a staff member came by and got it off me. Said it does that two or three times a day. Wasn't this huge though.
Maybe vigorous? It didn't feel frightening. Thirty years and I often dream about that cuddle, wake up with a smile on my face. It was an adolescent that had lost its sibling. Definitely felt the desperate need.
