Alright, Thursday. Easy day today.

****The date is wrong in the title, hahah

First, coffee.

I was then asked if I could just pull ahead and park down the main road, ready to move as soon as my turn would come for the crane. This would allow me to arrive facing the right way, avoiding disturbing traffic as much as possible.

The Black Halo
Kamelot
Waterdown ON

Soon enough it was my turn at the crane.

This almost has a tilt shift effect. But not quite, heh. After this here I had something to load, which got cancelled. I then had something else come up. And that too got cancelled.

That means back to the shop.

Taste Revenge
Sanctuary
Waterdown ON

The Obsidian Conspiracy
Nevermore
Toronto ON

Devils and Angels
Psychotic Waltz
Kingston ON

Lucretia My Reflection
Warrel Dane
Cornwall ON

Under a Luminous Sky
Communic
Ste-Madeleine QC

Back to the shop. And there's no work tomorrow. Again. I am getting really, really tired of this. The year 2025 is a fucking nightmare.

So, tomorrow, I will call the Canadian Forces recruiting centre, in Québec City, to enquire about my application and where it's at. The more it goes, the more I can't wait for this to move forward.

I am getting fed up of trucking and I haven't had any real fun doing it for quite a while. Remember that one time I got rear-ended up in Northern Ontario by a "Brampton-type driver", just before Christmas? That single event pretty much killed the passion I once had for the job. A lot of things changed for me at that very moment.

Tumilik! Bringer og happiness and joy. She's such a wonderful girl.

I bought new hiking boots after work today. For a while I was using my old ginormous Baffin winter boots for walking. They were worn out a lot, and some plastic part inside the back of the left boot cracked, cutting my Achilles tendon while I was walking one day.

It was so fucking painful.

So, I started using my old hiking boots. But they, too, had seen better times and were quite worn out. And the same thing happened—the inner framing of the back of the left boot cracked, causing a lot of pain while walking.

So… new boots! And these are waterproof, too.

After the walk, it was time for the exercise part.

Today I'm on Day 4 of Week 1. But.. I wasn't able to do the "loaded 25 lbs" part as I don't have a backpack/ruck sack to do so. I'll be getting one in the near future.

Today was also "Circuit 1" day.

I read about the tests done at the CAF training with the sandbags, such as these. The last one means involves a minimum of 100kg (220 lbs) of sandbags.

I need to practice that.

And I found a solution. A 10-pack of military grade heavy duty bags. And at the local hardware store they sell them sand bags at 20kg a piece for like 8 bucks.

This sort of brings me back to my younger years, when I was in high school and up until the age of 20, where I went to the gym on a regular basis and trained for years as a powerlifter. And back then I used to do around 70 km of biking on a regular basis. Played baseball (right fielder), and hockey. It's probably why getting back in shape today doesn't feel like a burden at all.

Also..so far I've lost weight, about 6% of my weight. And I noticed today that I haven't had any acid reflux whatsoever for over a week now. I think weight loss, combined with good exercises, and drinking A LOT of water surely helped.

And that's it for this week. It's now 1:35am and I want to be up at 5:30 (soon) to go to the local pool and practice swimming for a couple of hours.

Cheers!

Can I ask you some questions about truck driving?

Time travel! This is new. Or maybe you just meant to say April 10. ;)

Good luck with everything. You seem like such a strong-willed person with a clear vision of what you want your life to be. Lots of scritches to Tumi!

I'm sorry that you're losing your passion for trucking...but I'm glad that you're finding that passion in what is to come. Hope you'll continue posting, perhaps "A Day in the Life of a Canadian Soldier."

Yeah, there's no "almost" about that tilt effect. It's in full force.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What I thought too.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always updoot truck drivers. All of society would cease to function without them.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's crazy the amount of stuff that's been hauled around on a daily basis!

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey @OP love the posts but have a question: do you listen to the fast metal music when driving? seems like it would make you want to drive really fast; for me anyway.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let's just say I'm glad it's governed at 106 km/h. My car is not, and sometimes while listening to Motörhead I forget about that..or when I listen to my own songs to see (or hear) if it's listenable and all that..

Should have gone with Columbia boots, or Oakley Si, better for many reasons. I’m definitely biased on anything waterproof hiking tho.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The one's I got were very well reviewed on various hiking pages and forums, and they were 50% off.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure Leif will not buy american, the way things are.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’ve had a couple of pairs of Vasque boots. They were good quality and lasted for years.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's what I read in various forums threads. They're very light, too.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As current CAF Chair force element employee, don't worry, it's really hard to not passes the force test. As for the sandbag drag, it's the easiest one. Just lean back and leverage you're weight. The hardest for most is usually with the loaded carry, because of fatigue from the other 2. Application also takes anywhere between 6 month to 1.5 years (it's stupid).

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I heard it can take a long time...crazy..! I'll have to call them hehe.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If its fast, mine and multiple people took 6 month, and that was for a trade in the red (~70% filled).
Its not unheard of for some people to take 1~2 years, security clearance takes even longer, because the government in its infinite wisdom, decided to employ a 3rd party agency. But, once you get loaded into CLFRS, everything else is relatively faster.

HI TUMI

She's sleeping shhhhh ☺️

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Awww, sweet baby!

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In that first clip, why didn’t they provide you with banksmen to protect you from the traffic? Shame on them. That picture with the men in the hole with the dildo made it look like plastic models! 😁. You have to have good quality boots if you are going to be marching everywhere! I can tell you are really getting pissed off with the truck driving. I hope you don’t have to wait too long before your application goes through. 🤗

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The reviews on hiking forums about them boots were very good. And when I got them they were at 50% off. That's a winner for me.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely perfect! 👍🏻

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hope your application goes through smoothly my friend!

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hopefully yes!!

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d miss your posts friend, but your quality of life is paramount. Best of luck to you!

I think I would find ways to talk about trucking, if I end up driving trucks for the army. But most likely only in a "subjective" form, as taking pictures or videos of anything military on the base is prohibited.

Just finished uploading! It's online now!

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so you're really signing up for military service? I would advise against it. leave it to the young and bold.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are more people my age enrolling than you'd think. And I'm probably in better shape than many of them young people. Also, my kife experience is highly valued, as opposed to someone who's 20 and has never seen anything yet.

Ugh. How often do last minute cancels like that happen? Does it really mess with you or is it just something to roll with?

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not OP but a fellow flatbedder and it's really random, you can go weeks with everything ticking like a Swiss watch and then suddenly a whole day where every plan your dispatcher sends you is batshit and falls apart. You learn to roll with it, usually by working somewhere that offers daily pay if they can't load you or has a solid network of brokers they can work with for emergency last minute reloads.

#10 As a fan of Sisters of Mercy, I am obligated to provide the original: https://youtu.be/8nlMbJZDAVA

Such a strange band, and some really fun music back in the day. Good share of the original.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Black Halo is the best Kamelot album imho :)

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it sums up very well a combination of Fourth Legacy, Karma, and Epica. Black Halo is just simply delicious from start to finish.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has been awhile since I have seen someone mention Kamelot. The bands best years IMO were with Khan as lead singer.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had the chance to see them live many times with Khan. Although the new singer does have some similarities in voice/tone, there's just a little something missing.

A day in the life of a time traveling trucker...

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Sadly I forgot to gather any news of if the orange face was still alive, or juiced.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Footwear is so important!!! Invest in yourself and buy quality… you are worth it. Good stuff. Protect your feet, means protect your body and posture etc. I think you are mentally over trucking and ready for the next chapter in your life. Good thinking doing a follow up. Shows motivation! Happy Friday

I fkn dropped my phone on my right foot this morning... placed it too close to the edge of a counter and it fell straight on one single toe. The thing is my phone weighs ¾ of a pound with it's heavy duty case. Nothing's broken but it is soooo painful... No pain no gain they say?

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well shit. See. Proper footwear IS important! 🤣 kidding. So foot, owie. How’d the cell make out? I’m a life time fan of Otterbox Defender cases. My family doesn’t get a cell unless they get the defender. Bare minimum. I know there’s higher end stuff but that’s bare minimum for me. Hope you did your follow up calls today 😉

Ha, a tank for ants! Nice boots, friend. You surely know how different walking with a backpack is, so get one soon. Especially since from the start you pack 25 lbs. That's a bit over 11 Kg. It starts to pull after a while. I'll sit on my porch while you exercise. Being old has its peaks, heh. Pets for dear Tumi, and CU. Btw, how is bureaucracy in the canadian military? ;)

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think bureaucracy is the same worldwide. There must be some sort of code of ethics, or consensus, about making sure it's slow. Have you seen the Asterix cartoon with the one with the 12 tasks, and the crazy house ( ?? dem Haus das Verrückte macht ?? ), well sometimes it's like that hehe.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, I know it. And I see you know too. So you know what to expect. ;)

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I definitely don't miss backing in off the street. I had a few shippers in LA that required it. The backing isn't difficult, it's the idiot automobiles that won't give you 10 seconds to get off the road.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's insane how they won't wait, or won't even comprehend the movement. And even on an empty street without any traffic..there will be some spontaneous traffic at the exact moment you'll have to back up.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've had them jump an 8" curb and drive on the grass to get around me.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh I just remembered something... I'll try to find the video, hahaha, wait !

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

here, I was getting out of the construction site and back on the road. Some lady wanted to turn but was directed to back up. She just floored it and jumped the sidewalk with her rear wheels, hah.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been there brother. Keep the shiny side up!

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, if you end up in the RCN... come out west, and help me drown a pint.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No navy for me! But if I do get out west, we'll go for a Guinness!

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What would be your preferred element? Are you thinking of being part of Transport, or move to another aspect of the Forces?

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably Mobile Support Equipment Operator, although my initial interest back in 2001 when I almost joined was infantry --> sniper.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We do have a good rep with sniping... If you like camping in the cold, rain, mud, this would work.. How's your shovel - those latrines won't dig themselves...

MSE would get you anywhere - more chance of clinking glasses of wobbly-pop as you travel across the country.

My Buddy went Navy - too many years in Artillery - wanted somewhere that the mud didn't get in his food, socks, underwear...

Although it's not the same thing, I'm already used to lousy work conditions doing flatbed, be it in the rain, snow, scorching heat, freezing hell, sometimes with people incapable of working, MacGyvering solutions on the spot, oftentimes I forget to eat and I run on 5 hours of sleep. I think I'll be alright hehe
