Bought this at a yard sale about 3 years ago for $10. Thought it needed a little bit of TLC
Took it apart to smooth everything out by getting rid of the rust and old paint. Bolts were rusted pretty bad on the sides and had a hard time getting them out. Made the hole bigger than what it actually was
Originally used some paint thinner to take off the paint, wasn't working to well. I used a wire wheel to take the rest off but it wasn't doing that good of a job. The yellow part is where I used the wire wheel first except it wasn't as smooth as I wanted it. I picked up a polycarbide abrasive wheel which brought it down to the bare metal and got it very smooth
Sorry this is a bad picture of the chair arms
This is the bolt that was rusted on that I had to bang out
Drill Master grinder from Harbor Freight. Works very well for $15. Super fast and powerful
This is what takes it down to the bare metal. Polycarbide Abrasive Wheel. Don't know how long they are supposed to last but I went through about 3 or 4 of them
After getting it down to the bare metal I wiped the surface off with soapy water and let it dry. Then comes the spray painting. To begin I started off with priming the chair with this. I sprayed it once, let it dry, then sprayed a second coat
Waited about a day or two and then sprayed the chair with this. You don't have to wait that long, the primer drys pretty fast. I just took my time with the spraying. I covered up the back netting of the chair and the seat netting of the chair with brown paper because I wanted two different colors on the chair. Used about 3 coats of the red on the chair
After I finished the red part of the chair it was time to spray the back of the seat netting and the seat netting. Once again I used brown paper and covered up the red part of the chair I just painted to begin painting the back and the seat white
And there you have it. It sat outside for about 2 years then I finally got motivated to do something with it. Don't know the exact amount of hours that it took because I used to to a little each day then put it off for awhile. I replaced the old nuts with brass ones because I think it looks better. The hole that I made bigger I just used a washer to cover up the hole and it came out pretty good. Looking forward to doing more restorations with chairs.

Chair worth 10$? Spend 50$ and >100$ man hours to spruce it up into a 15$ chair.
