Ok. This is good clarification. The headlines of “trump sent Covid tests” seemed pretty shallow. Of course you’d send tests to a head of state. Turns out it’s worse (as it virtually always is). One machine even I could see. Having a massive power vacuum in Russia during a pandemic sounds like loads of fun /s. But multiple? Ugh.

It seems that Russia wasn't able to get its hands on their COVID testing machines without TFG sending them so I am assuming they didn't have a market there, but TFG gave them the technology to reverse engineer and they probably would have liked to sell them to Russia instead. Just a guess.

They're not very high-tech. It's just a little Peltier heater with a thermostat, a little pump to move fluid between two tubes, and a photomultiplier tube to tell if the reaction starts to become fluorescent. The enzyme reaction they use to copy COVID RNA is more advanced, but it's also published in scientific journals. The hard part is making the enzymes, and they'd need to import Abbot's factory to reverse engineer that, not the test machines.
