Django Unchained

The men in hoods organized by Big Daddy represent a group known as "The Regulators" - spiritual forebears of the later post-civil war KKK formed in 1865.

No Country for Old Men

The suppressor on Chigurh's shotgun was specially made for the movie. Such a device didn't exist, so the Coens had one invented.

Friday

In the flashback scene where Smokey is in the car with Hector and his friend, two men can be seen sitting on a block wall in the background. The men were residents of the neighborhood who wanted to be difficult towards the production staff, knowing they couldn't tell them what to do on their property. They remained in the shot despite offers from the staff which included compensation or a walk-on role in the film.

Dumb and Dumber

When Harry and Lloyd are in the car, Lloyd asks if Harry wants to hear the most annoying sound in the world. This was not originally in the script (you can tell by the look on Jeff Daniels' face).

Scarface

The word "yeyo" is used by Tony Montana (Al Pacino) as a slang word for cocaine. This word was not in the script, and was ad-libbed by Pacino during the first drug deal scene (chainsaw scene), and Brian De Palma liked it enough to keep using it throughout the film. Pacino learned the word while learning the Cuban accent.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Fifty ideas for the dwarfs' names and personalities were listed in the film's proposal; the list included all of the names finally included except Dopey and Doc (Dopey being the last to be developed). Some of the dwarfs were: Awful ("He steals and drinks and is very dirty"), Biggy-Wiggy or Biggo-Ego, Blabby, Deefy, Dirty, Gabby, Gaspy, Gloomy, Hoppy-Jumpy, Hotsy, Jaunty, Nifty, and Shifty. Sneezy was a last-minute replacement for Deefy. Peanuts creator Charles Schulz once wrote that he had heard that another name considered for a dwarf was "Snoopy" and that he was relieved that it had not been chosen as it would have probably prevented him from giving that name to his famous cartoon beagle.

The Princess Bride

When Count Rugen hits Westley over the head, Cary Elwes told Christopher Guest to go ahead and hit him for real. Guest hit him hard enough to shut down production for a day while Elwes went to the hospital.

The Vikings

Stuntmen had practiced for weeks for the oar walking scenes. Kirk Douglas told director Richard Fleischer that he could do it and did several times. At one point when he did fall in the icy water he calmly swam over to the camera boat and asked if they had gotten good shots. He then swam back to the Viking longboat. Fleischer noted they were watching and filming an activity that had not been done in a thousand years.

Bedazzled

The math homework that The Devil erases from the blackboard when she is the schoolteacher is Fermat's Last Theorem - Solve for n>2, x^n + y^n = z^n. It was an extremely difficult mathematical problem that was only proved conclusively in the early 1990s, after four hundred years of it stumping the most brilliant mathematical minds in the world. In fact, the theorem states that this equation does not have any solutions. Fermat originally described it in a margin too small to contain his alleged proof. Andrew Wiles did prove it using elliptic curves, a fairly modern mathematical technique.

Earth Girls Are Easy

Much of the language that the aliens speak is actually just the dialogue being read backwards (this is particularly obvious with Wiploc during his conversations with Zeebo). For example, 'from' becomes "morf" and 'females' becomes "selamef".

Aladdin

Originally, the peddler who introduces the movie would be revealed to be the Genie at the end - hence the fact that Robin Williams voiced him, too. Notice the similarities in the design of the two, especially the eyebrows, the beard, and the four-fingered hands. (All the other human characters have five fingers.)

Galaxy Quest

Sam Rockwell based his portrayal on Bill Paxton's performance in Aliens (1986). In particular, his hysterical fear of being killed, and his mental collapse upon seeing a motion detector that shows their enemy closing in on them.

Sleepy Hollow

Christopher Walken's character speaks no words throughout the film. He makes a few wordless shouted commands to his horse and shhhh admonishments to witnesses.

The Waterboy

Captain Insano, the pro wrestler that Bobby idolises in the film, is played by Paul Wight, a pro wrestler in the WWE.

Independence Day

The scene in which Will Smith drags the unconscious alien across the desert was filmed on the salt flats near Great Salt Lake in Utah. Smith's line, "And what the hell is that *smell*?" was unscripted. Great Salt Lake is home to tiny crustaceans called brine shrimp. When they die, the bodies sink to the bottom of the lake (which isn't very deep) and decompose. When the wind kicks up just right, the bottom mud is disturbed and the smell of millions of decaying brine shrimp can be very very bad. Apparently, nobody warned Will.

The person with Captain Insano is also Kevin Farley, Chris Farley's brother

"Shhhhh, hhhhh" -Christopher Walken (Sleepy Hollow)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"Yayo" comes from the lyrics to the Debbie Harry song "Rush Rush" which is slang for cocaine. Released 1 month before Scarface.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember the song being in Vice City and me singing it as a kid clueless as to what it meant. Then I saw Scarface not long after......

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sam Rockwell is far to underrated.

9 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 11

I've been wanting to check out Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

he's kind of like the next gary oldman, in that you see a movie, and later on you're like "wait... that was him?"

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Did you know he was one of the teens being recruited into The Foot in the TMNT movie? Blew my mind when I realized.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hated the Charlie's Angels movie, but Rockwell was sooo fucken cool.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

That was the first thing I saw him in and was going to use the same example

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I really liked him in teenage mutant ninja turtles. The choice between regular or menthol cigarettes was a big issue when I was 8.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He played a great Zaphod Beeblebrox

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

He was a pretty good thug in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Inasmuch as the ONLY time I see his name is when someone is saying how sadly under-rated he is... then he is obviously not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Secure that shit, Hudson!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Seven psychopaths. His character is fantastically humorous

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Easily top 3 performances by him. That movie was amazing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was a bit overdone, but still fascinating

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

H2G2 was okay, but he was an amazing zaphod

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gentlemen Broncos is one of my all-time favorties

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

His character in the way way back is one of my favorite characters of all time. Fantastic actor

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

That movie made me feel like the kid. I didn't want the summer to end because of Rockwell's character.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Okay, but what the fuck does "Deefy" mean?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0
