Lens shelf

I built a shelf for all my lenses, mounted rear lens caps on the underside of the shelves so they hang from it. Looks pretty nice

EDIT: Holy shit, front page! :) Just to answer a few questions:

1. Those brass lenses are Lomography Petzvals
2. I shoot Nikon and Sony, most lenses are Nikon
3. Not shown is the Sony A7RII used to take the pic (along with the Batis 25) and my Nikon D800E which is in the studio
4. I don't know how much all of this is worth, it's a collection that has grown over many years :)
5. I photograph as a hobby
6. My photos can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/jonaseklundh/
7. The rear lens caps are glued with polyurethane glue and are inset into the wood, so they're rock solid. Each shelf is mounted in a slot of the rear plate and apart from the metal braces is also screwed from the back, the lens caps for the bigger lenses are also reinforced with screws.

What's on the shelf:

First shelf:
1. Samyang 8mm fisheye
2. Sigma 28mm/f1.8 - really good cheap lens
3. Nikkor 28mm/f2.8
4. Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 special edition (for the Df)
5. Nikkor 50mm/f1.2
6. TC14
7. Helios 44-2 58mm/f.2

Second shelf:
1. Nikkor 135/f2.0 DC - Best portrait lens in the world!
2. Tamron 90mm macro
3. Tamron 28-300mm all round lens
4. Petzval 58mm
5. Petzval 85mm
6. Lensbaby, Nikon mount

Third shelf:
1. Nikon Df
2. Sony A7
3. Nikon FE
4. Nikon D4
5. Nikon D80
(Not shown: Sony A7RII and Nikon D800E)

Fourth shelf:
1. Lens baby Sony mount
2. Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm
3. Sony-Zeiss 55mm/1.8, really good lens!
4. Mitakon 50mm/f0.95 speedmaster
5. Batis 85mm
6. Sony 24-240mm
7. 135mm/f2
8. Mamiya 645 Pro TL

Fifth shelf:
1. Nikkor 14-24mm/f2.8 - Seriously one of the sharpest wide angles on the planet
2. Nikkor 24-70mm/f2.8
3. Nikkor 70-200mm/f2.8
4. Nikkor 80-400mm

Well that was shelfish. Where's everyone else's?

Guess this shelf really helps you focus ?

Photo is out of focus.

nice and easy to steal equipment, all on one convenient shelf

All these lenses, but I still wasn't your focus.

Sorry, babe :)

Huh, so @op really IS a faggot...

Huh. I'd have thought camera gear and magnets wouldn't be friendly with each other. Neat.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No magnets :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Double neat. (Couldn't see the top shelf clearly when I wrote that.)

Really hope you hang the thing securely on the wall

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did :)

You saved me a sleepless night

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Casey Neistat, is that you?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Too fancy

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you Casey Neistat?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I don't even know who that is :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Confucius say man who fall into vat of molten glass make spectacle of himself.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gorgeous shelf! I've always the need of making shelves to hold various expensive things, and this is a perfect example of one!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, and someone suggested that it should be enclosed and with glass doors and lighting, which sounds awesome. Maybe I'll do that :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You definitely should! :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounded sarcastic... It's not :D , I'm genuinely impressed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have earned both my jealousy and respect. +1.

9 years ago | Likes 249 Dislikes 2

So much jealousy. I could buy a couple of cars with what's on those shelves, but I wouldn't because I want the lenses.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Envy

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that is a nice collection.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I made puppy noises when I looked closely.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Aye. Mine, as well. Have a blast. Shoot many things in beautiful places.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks man :)

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Same here. I may have to build something like this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some nice gear! See a few Zeiss lenses in the mix, love my ones (2/35, 1.4/50, and 1.4/85). Is that a medium format on the 2nd shelf?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please make me one!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Totally jealous

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are rich. Yes, yes you are. Don't even try to deny it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah, it's a collection that has grown over many years :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone recently broke into my house and stole all my cameras and lenses.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aw, shucks, that sucks...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awesome, how did you mount the rear lens cap? Glue?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They're inset into the wood shelf and glued with polyurethane wood glue. They won't budge :)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm not jealous. I'm not jealous at all...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is what porn looks like to someone out there

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just curious--doesn't the equipment get dusty?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Only if I don't use them, which I do :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good answer ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hence why they're upsidedown

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? My eyes must be tired but I think the cameras are not upside down.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the bodies are covered, so no dust in the lens assemblies.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I'm wet now

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

Haha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh re-he-he-heaaaally

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I'm a photographer, a long hard piece of glass gives me orgasms

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

a long hard piece of glass would probably give me many cuts...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That means you need more lube

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And here we see someone who was dumb enough to buy the Nikon Df.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love it though, one of the best cameras I've owned. The AF is a bit wonky but that's the only downside. I use it a lot with manual lenses

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't see the point. They turned a perfectly usable camera into a hipster plaything (He says, staring at his F2).

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, to each his own :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But did you build it all by yourshelf?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Without the help of neither god nor McGyver :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see the Batis 85 there look'n all sexy

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and the pic is taken with the Basis 25. Love those!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love your comment!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh? I'm a people pleaser :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Made me laugh! That's sexy! Lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How strong are the lens caps? What are the chances of them letting go and your lenses falling?

9 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 1

They twist lock just how it twist locks to the body of the camera. It would be plenty strong.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The rear caps are twist locks, so whatever was used to attach them to the board is most likely to be the weak point.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They're inset into the wood and glued with polyurethane wood glue. They won't budge :)

9 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

Have you thought about repurposing a lens capture? It might sturdier for heavy things like a 500 or 600mm

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lens capture?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same people who made clip https://www.peakdesign.com/capturelens originally to swap lenses on the field but....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what if you want to take the lens(es) with you? Do you have extra lens caps or only leave the house with the one lens?

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Yup, all the lens caps on the shelves are bought "extra" so all original caps are in a drawer :)

9 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Have you ever been on K.E.H. ? It's a website that has a lot of new and used camera equipment for cheap.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, never heard of it, I'll check it out

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There has to be over $50,000 of hardware on that shelf

9 years ago | Likes 320 Dislikes 4

Damn, almost as much as Casey Neistat's camera room

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I hope he trusts his handiwork!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A few hundred just in lens caps.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Quick spreadsheet guess, current prices: $27k. New, at time of release, a bunch more (Nikon D80 now is $50, 2-3k+ when released).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

D80 is not $50 now. I can buy a PS4 for $10 after some finger fucked the cd tray with dog shit. Doesn't mean a PS4 is $10

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah like per shelf

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My estimate was at least a bickering wife, amiright!?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And cue the shelves falling one by one from the top down as op weeps from three rooms over as he hears his livelihood being dragged to hell

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's definitely some good amount of money in those but not near $50,000.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Yeah, $50k seems a bit high. :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Great shelf and amazing collection btw.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can load up two cameras, and 2-3 lenses and be at $10k in my camera bag. There's easily $50k

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Probably more.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

Photography is a very expensive hobby

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's a profession for some... :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's a d4 on the shelf. I doubt @OP is just a hobbyist

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

My statement was not referring to op. It is a hobby of mine and I've spent a LOT of money on it

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Ah. Well there I can sympathize.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try 100k or more.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

Easy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hundreds of millions..

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2
