The size difference between a female and male grizzly bear.

#bear

"Hey, baby, how you doin' Look how tall I am! Hot, right?" "I got a man." "Fine, whatever..."

Why are we filming this with the bears boxed on three sides? two opposing human groups and the water's edge. This seems like an unwise setup...

I bet she’d rather see a man in the woods.

It was all "cuddle puppy" until it stood up. Fuck...bears are scary actually.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Anyone else terrified of that ultra low clicking sound?

Really? Today, the day of Pixie's quinceanera?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And the photographer who is currently wetting their underwear...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And why do women suddenly feel that they would be safer if they were in the forest with either one of those?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sexual Dimorphism is a motherfucker

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Both are absolute units though

“Hey girl we havin sex”

“No thanks I kind of need the calories this winter. Plus you kinda ate my kids last time to put me back into heat again”

“Bitch I wasn’t asking.”

Needs a banana for scale.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't care how far away the camera guy is, he's too close right now

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'M too close to those things

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Add some cubs into the mix and my money would be on mama bear in a fight

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Intention counts, but males frequently kill young, and damage the mother in the process. Male bears may be the most common cause of death among the young. Spring can be a hungry time for all.

These bear nuts?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Please tell me this is filmed with a high power long distance camera

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nope. The depth of field is way too deep for a long lens. They do zoom in a little halfway, makes the people in the bg seem closer to the action.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There’s people just standing there in the back towards the end of the video.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I beg to differ...Otis won the fat bear contest for 4 years (RIP) in Alaska

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, I dunno who they're saying is bigger...so here's Holly, another contest winner 🫣

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I were the camera man I would've shit my pants when big boy made eye contact with the me

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If ever a wild bear charges you, throw shit in his face. If you're worried about how to acquire shit, don't worry. It'll be there.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mommy.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Well, that doesn't say a lot, maybe if the camera man could stand next to them with a banana

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She still scared him off though lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this a mating thing? Or a territory thing?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey gurl I see you sniffin round me. Dats cool gurl.

Oh shit you wanna go!?!?!?

Wait right you cool gurl

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So.... Which is which?

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

I would have asked the same thing, but then I watched the video.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 41

unlike you, not everyone excels at bear penis identification

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Or apparently reads the other comments that explain male grizzlies are approximately twice the size of the females, but hey, you can keep trying to stare at bear dick if that's your thing, no judgement.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

So is it you watched the video or read other comments? When do the lies end?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Looks like the big one has some dangly bits ig?
I unmuted thinking they would say but they didn't >:C

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

If it's a mammal? The larger one is usually a male. If it's anything else, the larger one is usually a female.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The big one is a male.
'The largest populations are the coastal grizzlies in the Alaskan peninsula, with males weighing 389 kilograms (858 lb) and females weighing 207 kilograms (456 lb)' -Wikipedia

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

That's doesn't really mean anything without anything to judge the sizes by. Bears keep on growing as they get older, even past adulthood, without context this could easily be a 7 year old female and a 3 year old male.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Given the context of the title I think it is safe to make some assumptions.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I feel like people lean on the "camera man always survive" thing a tad too much there.

2 years ago | Likes 329 Dislikes 2

Did the camera man survive?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pft, you see how that bear ran like a little bitch when he looked at the person? Weak-sauce bear. I bet I could take it in a fight.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Especially considering what happened to the last bear-guy

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

This might be how the 'found footage' trope began - someone found the camera of a cameraman who broke the trend. :D

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cameraman was never in real danger. If you look closely you'll see a group of 3 people in the background at the end. The cameraman was likely in a group of 3 or more. It's extremely rare for a brown bear to attack a group of 3 or more people. Which is why as soon as the bear realized how close he was to the cameraman's group he retreated.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Punctuation matters. It's actually, "the camera, man, always survives"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bearly feel safe watching it here

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

In many areas in grizzly country you are required to either carry a gun, or hire a guide who carries one for you. If you're in Alaska to photograph bears professionally, you better have one of those.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm hoping they are using a big zoom lens

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The guy with a 20x telescopic lense?

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

They're usually much further away than they appear. Telephoto lens exist.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I would. Orally agree with you, but I don’t know about this one. those people in the back don’t look too far away.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's why I used the qualifier "usually"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

survivorship bias, we don't see all the footage that got eaten by bears

2 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We've got some pretty gnarly audio recordings, though you probably don't wanna listen to them.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Grizzly Man and his missus. :|

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I know of their existence, but I've never found the courage

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't muster it. Especially if you've got bears in the area. It's not worth it. Had an old "friend" I worked with who was a murder mystery enthusiast, you know, true crime, morbid stuff. She surprised me with the audio. Idk why she thought that was a good idea. Don't listen to it. Gnarly doesn't describe it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just as well. I don't want to hear it ever again.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Normally, in the animal kingdom, the lady is larger than the gentleman. Can i assume that is reversed in this situation?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Terrible assumption. Size gender dimorphism is not quite random, but varies widely among species. NO general rule.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Googling grizzly size shows males get up to 600lbs and ladies up to 350

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, male grizzlies are heavier than the females and can weigh about 400 to 600 pounds. A large female can weigh about 250 to 350 pounds.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But you never want to tell them that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not even remotely true, it's almost always the opposite...

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You're both wrong 🤷‍♂️

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

For mammals.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Thanks, I was too lazy to look it up. Insects are definitely not.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At the time anyway.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could smash the bodies of six average-sized people together and still be 2 or 3 bodies short of what that bear masses.

2 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 1

I like the physically accurate planet-agnostic verb. We should all describe mass in units that transfer unchanged to outer space - in preparation to communicate effectively about the space bears.

Large males can weigh up to 800lbs, so you’re not far off!

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Wikipedia's saying 1300, and 800 seems quite light for a big male

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Assuming these bears are in Alaska (looks like coastal AK and they look like AK brown bears to me), then you are correct. 1300 would be an exceptionally large bear, but not impossible. I would guess the male in this clip is probably closer to 800-900 though. He’s big but not massive.

In 2022, a sanctuary bear whose god-given name was "747 Bear Force One" came in at a staggering 1300+ (estimated 1400) pounds by the time they settled down for their hibernation. Katmai national park does "fat bear watching" where the bears are protected and roam in their natural habitat.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, that is a perfect example of “an exceptionally large bear”. FWIW, I have been to Katmai several times and have been within 25 feet of 747 on several occasions.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, the correct actual name is "747 a.k.a. Bear Force One." The 'a.k.a.' is an important part of his name.
