Generally considered one of the most difficult Arias to sing.

Maybe even the hardest, but The Bell Song from Lakme gives it a run for its money.

I always upvote Mozart

... and in stays! I actually don't know how she does it.

That would have been so intimidating the first time they rehearsed, coming at you with that voice

I'm not gonna lie, whatever you ask of me, if you can ask it that way, I'm in. Sorry Sarastro, my stabbing spree started since that singing slayed, Sayonara.

GLORIOUS.

Doing that alone has to be insanely difficult... and you have to act at the same time!?! Jeebus.

yeah, This is considered one of the most technically difficult Arias in the entire opera canon - not the most difficult of the sopranos, but difficult period. It takes not only having a good range, and being able to hit the high registers without whistling or breaking, but to quickly bounce from high to low, sustaining notes while adding dramatic flair.

There's a reason why until the modern era even when Opera was the common people's entertainment that singers were fucking superstars.

When the music doesn’t match the visuals.

I'd love to share Natalie Dessay doing the Doll Aria from Offenbach's tales from Hoffman https://youtu.be/l-6bxlAJqso?si=MK2u4mAOtxIsrXz7

One of my favorite operas by Mozart. Saw this live years ago as a 20-something. Absolutely love it!

That's Diana Damrau, possibly one of the best soprani of her generation.

She absolutely owns this aria.

And then there is the version by Florence Foster Jenkins...

The prima donna this was written for was known to move her head up slightly for higher pitches and down slightly for lower pitches. Mozart wrote this piece this way to watch her bob her head like a chicken.

In opera culture this is considered a dick move

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's unproven - but also a different aria https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/mozart-head-bobbing-soprano/

The piece allegedly written for that purpose is "Come scoglio" from the Opera "Cosi Fan Tutte"

pretty sure i saw that in a bugs bunny cartoon

He also wrote a song called "Leck Mich Im Arsch" (literally "lick me in the ass," a phrase that at the time was the equivalent of today's "kiss my ass"). It was meant to be sung by six people in a three-part round, and it's assumed he wrote it for his friends to sing at parties. Mozart was a CHARACTER.

Uhhh, it's not "at the time," it's still used today. It's still modern. It's just German

He loved that chicken head

that was "Come Scoglio" in "Cosi Fan Tutte"

To add a bit more context: Mozart did this because he didn't like her.

Mozart would've been a legendary troll in this era. Alas, he came and went too soon

He really was before his time.

What do you mean "would have been?" Dude had a taste for scatological humor; he wrote two different canons in German, "Lick My Ass" and "Lick My Ass Nice And Clean," and a third in Latin that when sung in a Bavarian accent would sound like the singer was speaking German saying "it is difficult to lick my ass." Another section in that same song repeated "jonicu, jonicu," which when sung sounded like "cujoni, cujoni," or Italian for "balls."
