There is a mass of people that demagogues can appeal to. It’s very rare that anyone tries to manipulate them for good purposes, some crowdfunding, maybe. The way to appeal to these people is to make them hate, just like in 1984. Most bad leaders, unlike say Trump or Hitler, don’t actually hate a lot of the people they victimize to gain power, but we are in exceptionally bad times.

It does not. Women were a much larger group than Black folks. They use small groups as the wedge, to test the waters and expand the acceptance of hate. It's more marginalized groups right now that are getting the most public hate (immigrants, the homeless, trans people) but all the other hate is still there, still active, and getting more and more open and public all the time as the hate against the more marginalized groups feels to them like it's gaining traction.

Collegiate level courses highly promote critical thinking, analysis of themes/tropes, understanding intent behind writings, etc...
