This dude draws the political cartoons in the Salt Lake Tribune. He's awesomely funny.

Even if you're against it, why would you not want people to buy into medicare as a public option? The free market is supposed to be better1

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

so if they can't compete with the public option, they need to git gud or git rekt.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kinda damning for everyone whose against it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Why? You think they bother with things like facts? If they did they'd support it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yet here they are downvoting xD

Once you get people hooked on a government handout, it becomes very difficult to make people independent again. Thus the tyranny grows.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

The US is allready rated really low in the freedom index, for a first world world country. Health insurance makes ppl free.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You have no idea what you're talking about. How is it freedom to have people dying, or enslaved to debt just so they don't die?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the main reason these conservatives are against it is because it strengthens workers and the conservatives donors hate that.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Doesn't hurt that most politicians get ENORMOUS bribes... err, "campaign contributions" from the insurance companies.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

actually I think the insurance company lucre is what's keeping healthcare alive now. one interest group vs another: american democracy.

Since the population of a lot of those countries is equivalent to a single state, maybe we should let states implement plans.

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

It would only cost a small portion of your defence budget.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well there is Canada und a whole continent - Australia - so...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Canada has a smaller population than the US state of California, and Australia has ~12m fewer than Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Canada has a population equal to California and Australia is equal to Texas. So...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

even Canada only has 1/10th the population of the U.S.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Germany has almost three times as many people as our most populate state. So, not. You're wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And Germany has a hybrid model where lots of people have private insurance instead of the government plan.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, and?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A few countries on that list are also like that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People would oppose that less than the Canada style government controlled care people keep pushing for.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is the size of the US allways an argument? You have more ppl, but you also have equivalent more resources and money.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

We actually have a higher per capita set of resources I believe. One second, I'll go look for a source on that.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Found one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_financial_assets_per_capita Looks like the US has a lot, but IANA Economist.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because running a healthcare system that is exactly the same for such a diverse group is much more difficult than a smaller group.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Don't act like other countries are super small. For example you only have 4 times more ppl than Germany.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

But we have 4x as many people spread over a much larger area with very diverse economic backgrounds. It's just not the same thing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

And Germany doesn't? There are enormous differences between west and east that are still there because of the bad economy in the GDR.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You really want the government in your healthcare? Look at our VA and see how it works then come back and talk to me...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

So you should look at other countries and see how good it works. You need a completly new system, not the shitty one but free

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No what we need is not greedy politicians willing to fuck each other over and thus fucking our nation

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ok! As someone who has used the VA and has plenty of friends in the VA I can tell you that it's a decent system. Some are bad others aren't.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hear this complaint a lot from young soldiers and those who don't take advantage of the VA. Most of us who use it love it

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The VA has long wait times but Veterans love the service they get once they are in the system. Ask a senior about Medicare? Most love it

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Yeah, ONCE, they are in....I used the VA just for education and there was so much misinofrmation provided by them its unreal

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Seriously, my grandpa used to drive 200 miles to the nearest VA hospital because it was so much better than the hospital in his town.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Make people wait years before able to setup an appointment?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Months at most not years.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also have you seen where they dont fix any issues with their buildings? Force people to sleep on the floor?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I know some of the hospitals are grossly underfunded (Blame Congress for that).

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can't imagine being financially ruined because you had a heart attack or get cancer...

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I can! Watched my family go through it growing up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know several people that have avoided medications, procedure, and basic doctor visits because of the money aspect. And they have insurance

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I don't know this for a fact, but I'll bet tons of people die every day in the states because of that simple aspect.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You're not wrong. Maybe not a TON but way more than should which is still far too many

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A "ton" being a subjective term, for sure. To me, I suppose a "ton" would be at least 5-10.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accurate. Not too keen on the numbers but safe to say it's, again, morally way too many

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In an article published in 2013, State Rep Alan Grayson said 45,000 die per year. There are apparently studies done but I can't access them
