What does this light mean. I probably need to know this in a few years.

"Penny, your 'check engine' light is on!"

That's called the VW Owners' Club.

My check engine just came on because the turbo blew up while on the highway

The last one of these had me pay 7000 dollars ????

Mine goes yellow when it wants me to fund a for dealer (service) or red if something is actually wrong

LOL I know right? My oil light has been on for a week. Fuck all that noise.

I checked, my engine is still there so I kept driving.

Put tape over it, problem solved!

Last time that light came on. Turned out to be misfiring cylinders. Replaced the coil boots and spark plugs myself.

My engine light is always on my Subaru. Exhaust emissions, I've chosen to keep it on

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guilty for the same reason, but mine's an Audi A4. Since I knew what it was, I also have chosen to ignore it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this something that happens with Subarus? My boyfriend's has been on for a year, same reason.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where the standard exhaust is so restrictive on emissions, nearly any exhaust to get the proper subaru sound will turn the light on.

There is nothing wrong with the car though, you can get it remapped to turn the light off but I can't be bothered

Anything from a loose gas cap to holy crap I should buy a new car, what a fun general alert.

In the business we call it the check money light.

Mazda RX8 made it very simple: light is solid= CAT is gone. Light is blinking= misfire. Only 2 states, genius!

ODBII readers are so cheap now though

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I have to check mine weekly so an OBD was the best purchase ever. (Cat has been running sour for ages so it keeps it on)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not to mention most auto shops (Autozone, Advance, OReillys) will check it for free.

Sadly I don't think anywhere in the UK will, not that I'm aware of. But like poster above said, OBDII is cheeeeaaaaaaaap
