It was a Dodge neon that they put a much heavier body on when it came out consumer reports said for such a small vehicle is incredibly bad breaks basically they made a Dodge neon worse.
Back in 2001, this thing was "new and interesting" while looking a bit like an old timey mafia car. 25 years of information though proves it was actually just a very slow but reasonably reliable car. Less Mafia, more Turtle. The real value for money in this year range is still the Chevy Cavalier.
My mom was interested in them. I thought it was a unique look too. Was running a firework store and this guy came in driving one. He told me how he was paid to deliver cars to people. I thought that was the coolest thing ever, at the time. I miss those years.
Pt cruisers are underrated. Ample eg room in the back and great control and traction. I miss my purple one from 10 years back. Only traded it because I needed more room for car seats. Any hate is from those that have never ridden in one.
That's because the TV ad for this car had the *hottest* model ever. Besides, looks better than the Nissan Leaf, and I bought one of those (for my wife).
The prototype car was designed after a box fish, was super well built and apparently got the best mileage of any vehicle in any category by a massive margin... then the production models came out and it was nowhere near that level.
I hate how crossovers cost more and weigh more than sedans. The Ford Edge was 500-1000 pounds heavier and cost $10k more than the Fusion, and all you got in return was 10 inches of higher driving position.
Meanwhile as far as I'm aware the PT Cruiser, HHR, Scion xB, Kia Soul, and all the other cars in that market were all priced comparably to sedans.
PT Cruisers or Cybertrucks? Sadly PT Cruisers are still around, my neightbour has one and has it parked in plain view, instead of an abandoned mine somewhere.

Nice color tho
frenofafren
Goths love this car, in black it looks like cute little hearse.

Still, far FAR better choice than a Cybertruck

I'm 6'1" and this is not comfortable to sit in.

I honestly don't get the hate for it.
I also don't get the love for half the "cool" cars people go on about that look ugly as fuck.
God forbid different people have different tastes.

"PT Cruiser you're a loser" *punch your siblings arm* Like punch buggy or as we usually called it, slug bug
lightfoot2
It was a really interesting looking car. No question there.
randoon77
Unique and inexpensive. Not such a terrible combination.

Or from people who've looked at one

I drove one for years until the problems got too much. I liked it.
an0therthr0waway
I test drove one in 2007 (I think) and really liked it. Didn't buy it tho, partly because the dealer was obnoxious.
boumboum34
That was a very popular car for a brief while, until they discovered how poor the build quality was. Looked great, ran terrible.

You’re suggesting that today’s crossovers and SUV’s are any more attractive?

PT CRUISER BRUISER *punch*
QueefSlurper6372
The Chevy HHR's slightly better looking cousin
REOJackwagon
Both have the same designer

My sister still has hers

Nothing wrong with a vehicle that is paid off and still runs reliably. I still own my 2006 F150 for that reason.
Sigge1981
Better than a Nissan Juke
frenofafren
Clarkson says of the Nissan Juke, "The only car for the clown about town."
Kennleth
Everyone here seems to forget about the Nissan Cube

Or the Pontiac Aztec.

Sigge1981
I had to look that up, and boy was that an ugly car! I would actually be embarrassed being seen driving one of those.
tmphillips11
You could also pay through the nose for an official Pontiac tent that fit to the back.
ILoveThiPlatform
I hated the name more than the design
Sigge1981
The new design for it isn't terrible, if I'm not mistaken. It's the old one with those bugeyes that I don't like.
tmphillips11
I cared for neither but still a terrible combination any way that you look at it.
HogWashDiddler
Looks a hell of a lot better than cybertrucks

Low bar though.

The pedocabs can take you to wild island parties though
Scobragon
It will never not be funny they managed to make a car uglier than the PT Cruiser.
ILoveThiPlatform
Where did they all go? Can they all have been scrapped?
Scobragon
PT Cruisers or Cybertrucks? Sadly PT Cruisers are still around, my neightbour has one and has it parked in plain view, instead of an abandoned mine somewhere.

Pts. I haven't seen one in ages
Scobragon
You are lucky.
OrkenMork
Back then though, very few car loans were for 5 years....Mostly they were 3 years.
jnmjnmjnm
I financed a 2020 Neon new for 5 years; drove it into the ground over 12 years. 360 000 km
OrkenMork
The PT Cruiser was only sold from between 2001 and 2010...a good 10 to 20 years before your Neon existed!
jnmjnmjnm
2000 Neon

Edit… 2000 Neon

I was concerned a time traveler was getting sloppy

I have been time-traveling… but only in one direction. It is starting to get to me.
