Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...
For this heist, Kaz brings along: Inej- a talented acrobat who can move around unseen and unheard, Nina- a flirtatious woman with the power to control the human body, Wylan- a noble runaway turned demolitionist, Jasper- a gambling addicted sharpshooter, and Matthias- a Northern warrior turned prisoner searching for revenge.

Book 2, Crooked Kingdom, Released: September 27th 2016
The Heir to the North
“Caenthell will stay buried, and the North will not rise again until I freely offer my sword to a true descendant of the High Kings—or until one takes it from my dying hands!”
With this curse, the Warlock Malessar destroyed Caenthell. The bloodline of the High Kings disappeared and the kingdom faded into dark legend until even stories of the deed lost their power. But now there is an Heir to the North.
Cassia hopes to make her reputation as a storyteller by witnessing a hardened soldier and a heroic princeling defeat Malessar and his foul curse. But neither of her companions are exactly as they appear, and the truth lies deep within stories that have been buried for centuries.
The Heir to the North is a high fantasy book filled with swords, sorceries, myths, and legends. Storytelling is a big plot point in the book which makes it very enjoyable because of the different points of view or different versions you hear of the same story.
Book 1, Heir to the North Released: October 2015
Book 2, The High King's Vengeance, Released: September 23rd 2016
Duskfall
Stuck with arrows and close to death, a man is pulled from the icy waters of the Gulf of Nahl. Winter, a seemingly quiet young fisherman’s daughter, harbours a secret addiction that threatens to destroy her. A young priestess, Cinzia, must face a long journey home to protect her church from rebellion. A rebellion sparked by her sister.
Three characters on different paths will be brought together by fate on one thrilling and perilous adventure.
Duskfall is a book in which three different story arcs intertwine to create a larger story that is written well and enjoyable. The characters are well developed and have interesting personalities and backstories. This book also covers the topics of race, religion and persecution of those who are different.
Book 1, Duskfall, Released: June 21st 2016
Book 2, Dark Immolation, Release: TBA
The Bone Doll's Twin
For three centuries a divine prophecy and a line of warrior queens protected Skala. But the people grew complacent and Erius, a usurper king, claimed his young half sister’s throne.
Now plague and drought stalk the land, war with Skala’s ancient rival Plenimar drains the country’s lifeblood, and to be born female into the royal line has become a death sentence as the king fights to ensure the succession of his only heir, a son. For King Erius the greatest threat comes from his own line — and from Illior’s faithful, who spread the Oracle’s words to a doubting populace.
The Bone Doll's Twin is a slightly weird book in which the main character is born a girl but is magically placed in a boys body very early on in her life so she do not know that she are female. Also being raised by an angry ghost, a mentally ill mother, and being isolated from other children messes you up a little.
Book 1, Bone Doll's Twin, Released: July 16th 2001
Book 2, Hidden Warrior, Released: 2003
Book 3, The Oracle's Queen, Released: June 27th 2006
Twelve Kings in Sharakhai
Sharakhai, the great city of the desert, center of commerce and culture, has been ruled from time immemorial by twelve kings—cruel, ruthless, powerful, and immortal. With their army of Silver Spears, their elite company of Blade Maidens, and their holy defenders, the terrifying asirim, the Kings uphold their positions as undisputed, invincible lords of the desert. There is no hope of freedom for any under their rule.
Twelve Kings in the Sharakhai is about Çeda, the slum-raised masked fighter that goes by the title the White Wolf . Throughout the book Çeda's heritage is explored as she strives to unlock the mystery of the immortal kings.
Book 1, Twelve Kings in Sharakhai, Released: June 27th 2006
Book 2, With Blood Upon the Sands, Release: February 7th 2017
Book 3, A Veil of Spears, Release: TBA
The Path of Flames
A war fueled by the dark powers of forbidden sorcery is about to engulf the Ascendant Empire. Agerastian heretics, armed with black fire and fueled by bitter hatred, seek to sever the ancient portals that unite the empire - and in so doing destroy it.
Asho--a squire with a reviled past--sees his liege, the Lady Kyferin, and her meager forces banished to an infamous ruin. Beset by tragedy and betrayal, demons and an approaching army, the fate of the Kyferins hangs by the slenderest of threads. Asho realizes that their sole hope of survival may lie hidden within the depths of his scarred soul--a secret that could reverse their fortunes and reveal the truth behind the war that wracks their empire.
The Path of Flames is filled with adventure, magic, and unique characters that I thoroughly enjoyed. The world is also incredibly detailed and thought out with an interesting religion and caste system.
Book 1, The Path of Flames, Released: May 11th 2016
Book 2, The Black Shriving, Released: July 15th 2016
Book 3, The Siege of Abythos, November 5th 2016
Nevernight
In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.
Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined.
Nevernight is a crude, vulgar book with a strange writing style that took a while to get used to, but once I did I enjoyed it very much. Filled with gory violence, creative curses, and some descriptive sex scenes, this book is not a young adult book though it is tagged as one.
Book 1, Nevernight, Released: August 9th 2016
Book 2, (untitled), Release: TBA

Loved Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, but disappointed there's only 2 books in that series. I'm definitely not done with those characters

JamBarn
I dunno, sounds like that won't do well.

Most of the black library Warhammer books are excellent; Malus darkblade, the space wolves, and gotrex & felix are all excellent series!
AlwaysTrustTheManInABigWhiteVan
They could make 3 great movies of that. And then 3 shitty ones instead of 1-2 good ones from the prequel.
TheMuteDoge
The Belgariad, Any thoughts?
tiarali
Oh I love those! And the Mallorean, which is set after.
TheMuteDoge

oreowhisperer
It is, good to see it made the list
YojimboIsMyMaster
You could add The Stormlight Archive. It's not that new, but it only has 2 books out (The Way of Kings, Words of Radiance) with book 3 otw.
YojimboIsMyMaster
Author is Brandon Sanderson. Personally my favorite.
Kallika
Yup, Stormlight Archive is a great series. I didn't add it to the list because it isn't super new and it's pretty well known.
YojimboIsMyMaster
True enough. There's just not enough fantasy buffs around me to talk about this stuff, so it feels lesser known. :(
ellert0
Books by Brandon Sanderson are definitely not in the category of being lesser-known. That guy is a legend.

raniburger
I love how the author makes the side of the pages different colors I think the 3rd book is going to be gold
moonchild2300
Is there going to be a third book? I thought she said she wasn't ever planning on it...?
raniburger
I believe so. I work at Barnes and Noble and I saw on a list. It's either the third one or a spinoff

Cool! Will definitely be looking out for it :)
