Is this a squeal to battleship or a spin off series?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have the USS Hornet here in Alameda, CA and the Midway is in San Diego.

Launching shells the size of a Volkswagen for miles

Even a beetle is a tad wider than 41 cm (16").

Welcome to Imgur, @OP ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know warfare has evolved past this to things like cruise missiles, but there's something about a full broadside from a WW2-era battleship.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Check out his kill death ratio! Showoff

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For those who would like to see Battleship NJ it can still be found & toured in NJ.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I stared at this for a very long time before realizing that this was the name of the boat and not a meme.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought the flames were gravy on mashed potatoes for a second there.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a YouTube channel about the battleship New Jersey museum

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

was just going to comment that. it's.. strangely interesting even if you don't like ships

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Miss.

Rearranging the landscaping during Desert Storm?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No, only Wisconsin and Missouri were deployed to Desert Storm.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did not expect this many views lol, but I am a Contributing member of the Battleship New Jersey so if you guys have any questions lmk!

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

On a scale from 1 to 10, how much boom does a cannon of that size produce

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you Ryan Szymanski, Curator of the Battleship New Jersey Museum?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No lol, but Ryan does amazing work and he is one of the nicest guys you can meet

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I heard when a battle ship fires its guns all on one side at the same time, they’ll push the ship sideways quite a bit, can’t remember dist?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their YouTube channel is solid too

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you like lightly fried fish filets?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tbh not much of a fish guy lol, chicken is where it's at

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You're missing out on all those good fatty acids. Make sure you're taking your multivitamins, I'd hate for you to get scurvy.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So since the Iowa's went with an "all or nothing" scheme, how thick is the citadel protection? And where is the nothing?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're ever in Houston, TX once COVID-19 has subsided, tour the USS Texas. And the Lexington if you're in Corpus Christi. History!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Gray Ghost ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bet it would suck a lot to have that thing aggro on you.

4 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 6

No, just lots of oil will do it

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Temper, temper

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some Admiral once said (in support of battleships) "sometimes it's handy to be able to toss a volkswagon 15 miles".

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hahaha!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Especially it being named after Jersey

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean, it wouldn’t suck for very long…

4 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Just for the rest of your life.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which won't be much longer

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're not supposed to suck the canons too.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Im always impressed by the cannon blast recoils (?) They called like that?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guns. They call em guns. For some reason.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oof. Mighty guns... even for US Standards

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like the little fishing boats on the left side, is that so the sailors can eat fresh?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Lifeboats, probably

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Military lifeboats tend to be inflatable. Not enough room otherwise.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are used to ferry crew from ship to shore in ports where the ship is too large to dock. https://youtu.be/sV6BbzEwKiY

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I bet it's for their Friday Fish Fries because I bet all those seamen love lightly fried fish filets. I substitute my reality for yours.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do we even have battleships in the US Navy anymore? Not being a dick, I just wonder what purpose they serve in modern warfare. Anyone?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, all retired cause they are pretty useless in modern warfare. They were modernized in the 80' to get missile and mostly served as 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

artillery platform, very good in that role but they were way toe expensive to maintain compared to their little use, so bye bye

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As with all things military, war changes. So do the weapons that wage them. With peace comes good riddance to these behemoths, but I know>

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's not because of peace, but the changing nature of warfare. So we are past the point of bombardment from sea because of missiles? Seems>>

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like a logical replacement. What use is a shell that travels 20 miles when a missile can do 10x that? Still majestic, these ships were.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, how much lootbox was sacrificed to make this ship?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Took me about 80 Wisdom Cubes.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had to hit pity.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

rip, bro

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The last actual Battleship battle in history was 1944. Leyte Gulf. Japan vs. US/Australia.

4 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 0

Since then they have been used numerous times as completely invulnerable artillery platforms

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Japan got smacked

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Well, not if i become emperor of all earth, it won't be

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey, my grandpa was on a destroyer in that battle. I mean, at least for a bit. It was sunk. I think they sent him home for a bit after that.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The stern was blown off near Alaska, too. https://www.history.navy.mil/news-and-events/news/2018/Abner-Read-NOAA.html

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Australia at that battle (I am an Aussie with a son in the RAN. I'm allowed to make that joke)

4 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

? (fellow Aussie)

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Maybe. Most people here in US are oblivious to Australian military support/alliance over the years.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m not! Aus, India, Native Americans, and more made the difference

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My mum's from Leyte. Bit of trivia for u all.

4 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

Yep, we know

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better Leyte than ever

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Pffff, we all know where your mum is from pal.

4 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Leyte

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Shit, she told me she was on the pill... or ya know, menopause... I... don't know how old his mom is, to make the joke accurate.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The world's biggest battleship ever constructed goes toe to toe with a few destroyers and gets demolished. Absolutely legendary.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

You seem to be overlooking a significant number of aircraft, same as for her sister ship.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More complicated than that. Japan didn't talk once they started executing. There was a key task force under Halsey that needed to be...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lured north, or the Japanese battleships were screwed. That happened just according to keikaku, but there was no confirmation.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So when the destroyers charged out of blinding smoke, there are two options: 1) They be crazy and suicidal, or 2) Halsey is right behind.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Probably* (he never said), the Japanese admiral thought his fleet was lost if he didn't leave right then. Either way, he left.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah between the Yamato and the Bismarck it’s kinda impressive they were both taken out.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Being the meanest thing on a battlefield is usually not a good idea. Marks you as the main target.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well….the Yamato was sent on a suicide mission with 0 air support.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True, but it also spent most of the war doing nothing but sit in port due to risk of air attack.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohhh that’s right

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah, not really. Huge ships were largely outdated by WWII. Nations just hadn't quite caught onto that yet. But there's a reason they sank.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

At the End of WWII when Aircraft were gaining Night Fighting capability. In 1939 not so, mostly light and slow naval Airplanes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too much water inside them?

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

If only they had buckets

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both Bismarck and Musashi was taken out by overwhelming naval force. Tirpitz and Yamato got fucked by air.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The Musashi was also primarily killed by air assets, and air assets were invaluable in killing the Bismarck
