Are their Nazis? For some reason The Federation keeps encountering those guys too.

I couldn't stand the musical episode. Skipped it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I miss watching it with my dad, he watched them all and was a big fan of kirk and Jean luc. I always wanted to dress up as a klingon with him and go to a con but fucking cancer showed up one day

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has been one of my favorite Star Trek series for that very reason. Great show.

Bring on the GORN!!! The best alien species ever created in Trek.

Couldn't make it through the musical episode. The rest were fantastic.

I was surprised how much i enjoyed the whole series. And I luv the musical episode. The Klingon Boy Band? I laughed so hard.

2 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

That was a good episode with a realistic plot and it got rid of the soon to be annoying kid. Don't get me started on the singing episode.

also Nazi Germany, roaring '20's, '60s hippie, Shakespearian England

And the one that's clearly a 1950's Anytown USA backlot

Anyone remember the Taming of the Shrew episode of Moonlighting?

Man, the late 80's were more into Shakespeare than I apparently experienced.

And a single episode musical.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

this one took me by surprise and I liked it

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

As someone who hated Discovery, I really enjoyed Strange New Worlds. It's not perfect, but feels a hell of a lot closer to Trek to me.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Had they started out with SNW, the nuTrek shows wouldn't have half the hate they got. The most disappointing thing though was the imagined "need" to upgrade the 23rd century designs, basically retconning TOS— even SNW, as close as it's been to the TOS time period, does only a half okay job. Frankly, if we could NEVER set anything pre-TOS EVER AGAIN, that'd be great. Also there's like a span of 50 YEARS post TOS we know NOTHING about. Quit fucking with cannon and go play THERE, Kurtzman. Ugh.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ya Discovery was just boring.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

it reminded me of stargate universe. space soap-opera

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If SNW keeps up it's awesomeness it'll end up replacing DS9 as my favorite Trek

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Absolutely love this show, including the one mad episode, (truthfully I thought it was just me who thought that).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Omg I over heard this woman at work say “oh sorry I’m not a trekie” after this guy explained his joke was a Star Wars reference. I could hear the nerd in him dying. He didn’t even correct her, lol.

Time travel episode with La’an and Kirk was damn good. Big fan of Paul Wesley’s take on Kirk

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Finally answered the question, what would Star Trek be if it was also a hallmark movie

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

More Hallmark movies need time-travelling assassins and terrorist bombings.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That was heart breaking.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The moment at the end when she kept it together just long enough to finish the call with him and the broke down…

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tried to get into SNW, and they Almost have it... but they still aren't quite there. A Huge reason Trek's charm worked so well is that it all had a feel of community theater, to where you could really tell that they weren't working on a huge budget most of the time. Like when you see computer screens that are "actually there", but are just lexan with christmas lights behind them. Or the walls that astute people can spot where the prop guy got the stuff to build them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

(In early TNG, the control station for the transporter room used a trifold foam design for its walls. That's a cheap sound deadening foam, you can still get it online to this day. THAT kind of thing.)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My biggest gripe is their incessant need to dabble in the past and "upgrade" the look. When I was watching TNG, DS9, VOY, & ENT, those design teams WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY to try and recreate specific time periods in Trek ("Trials & Tribbleations", "Flashback", "In A Mirror Darkly..."). It gave a wonderful sense of world building and inherent connection to the previous shows and movies. Sure there wasn't a budget for upgrades, but they wouldn't have wanted to do IT, because of the respect for TOS.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The charm of the black carbord sheets in the computer panels in TNG to block out the studio lights. Ah... the joys of Hi def versions of older shows...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was like 90% of the fun. The fact that some fans could look at an episode and recreate the bridge in their garage and shoot a fan film and have it look pretty much just like the real thing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still didn't need to invent BS about the Gorn being a shitty Xenomorph variant that sounds like it came out of a fanfic.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They could have just created a new race, but nah, gotta appeal to that nostalgia about Gorn in TOS.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, Gorn were never really explored in anything but one episode of TOS and the Mirror Episode of Enterprise, so I see the appeal in the TOS era. But the Gorn Hegemony HAS been explored in the books, and given them a far richer history and social structure than what is being done to it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It didn't need to be "they're really a parasite, that can only exist by predating on a host species," because then that demands the question be asked on "How did they survive on their own homeworld, and why can they parasitize humans as well?" Its like how Enterprise tried to justify away Worf's joke in a DS9 episode about Klingon skull ridges. Its adding unnecessary complexity when you don't need to. Gorn are lizards. They just can lay eggs...and then grow like any other life form.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I haven't gotten the chance to read a whole lot more of Trek books, too many to pick from.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True! And there was a whole comic book series about the Hegemonic Eggs being kept safe from a Gorn Warlord by Picard & Co during the Dominion War that was great! Just do shit like that. I'm sure the author would be tickled pink to bring that great story to screen.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, exactly! We're seeing in Trek the same bizarre thing that's happening to Star Wars, the refusal to adapt high quality novels and stories that provide a huge amount of material, just to make the series different. Its like why they changed the Klingon's appearance and language. They did it just because they felt like it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just to torture you all lol

2 years ago | Likes 137 Dislikes 3

I’ll always laugh at the boy band Klingons.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Klingon captain/admiral is played by Bruce Horak, that also played Hemmer.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It would only be torture if there was no audio. This is pure GOLD!!

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

My fav part of that episode!!! I must've played it over a dozen times and laughed so hard my sides hurt 🤣🤣🤣

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't keep the Klingon forehead lore straight, should they have the ridges at this point in the timeline?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There are subspecies depending on location within the universes and timeline.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some do some don't. Some are albino some can't speak clearly because of all the extra teeth.

"We do not discuss it with outsiders" - Worf

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sorry, did you say something? I was looking at Jadzia in a TOS uniform.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So was Worf

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That part was brilliant, and I loved that entire episode!

2 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

For me the best part is right after, when Spock realizes that they miss just a liiiiittle bit of musical energy and logically has to join.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The klingons should have been symphonic metal or power metal but I cracked up so it worked.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Klingon opera

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But with guitars !!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For all we know that WAS Klingon opera.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We've heard Klingon opera before. That definitely wasn't it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This actually made me question a few things, what kind of Music is Popular for Klingon's? Opera? Jazz? Rap? Same question for Vulcan's, Romulan's, what does Bajoran Pop sound like? Cardassian Folk music. I both wanna know and am horrified to find out.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Klingon Opera is brought up frequently in the series, though whether that is "popular" or a niche genre is rather unclear.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Like I'm just curious what 'original' types of music these kinds of cultures would have made, what ones from other cultures they liked and adapted to their own. Like Imagine Klingon Rap Battles. :P

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, we know that Vikings had something akin to Rap Battles in their culture, so it could work! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flyting

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wasn't a fan of the musical episode. Seemed forced and not clever.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 20

Same here, love the show, just not that episode.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for what it was, started it, read reviews, but I am not a fan of musicals. Read the cliff notes on that one.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The only musical I'll willingly sit through anymore is the Buffy musical episode, and even that pushes the limits of willful suspension of disbelief and reasonability. And I have a degree in theatre.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't really like I but I gotta admit some of the songs were bangers.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

And nearly all of the actors were surprisingly good singers.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yep. I think Anson was straight-up doing Rocky Horror, but honestly that kind of works for the character.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Same

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Yeah. That was a bit off the rails. Other than that I've greatly enjoyed the series.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

off the rails? we're still talking Star Trek, where things are usually off the rails?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I appreciated it. Nobody tried to be cool or winked at the camera, they played it serious. It helped move forward a lot of emotional work that had been building (Chapel/Spock, Kirk/La'an, Number One's Keeping Secrets and Uhura's I Keep us Connected). The whole "space anomaly made this happen" was just as plausible as Q or the Holodeck or Gangster Planet. I dunno, I had fun.

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 5

I just wished the songs were better

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The solo songs went on too long. The ensemble ones were pretty good tho

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I had basically the same read on it

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Honestly, the musical felt like the more plausible explanation for the real secret agenda here, which is "We need to force everyone to be like, painfully honest with each other for an hour or we're never going to be able to resolve all the drama we've got cooking."

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Cough Buffy cough

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

agreed... is there some unspoken rule that every TV series needs a musical episode.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Blame Joss Whedon— he started it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was cringing so hard I had to just keep skipping through and trying to be catch the story without the music.. otherwise excellent show

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Glad to hear others exist, & the songs weren't good

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I didn't hate it but it did feel a little too "lets see how weird we can get away with being." The k-pop Klingons were just too far.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

klingon-pop klingons

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno that one made me laugh. We know from all the other Trek that Klingons are tough but also kind of drama queens. It kind of fits.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I still haven't seen SNW. Pretty much everything I've heard about it has been the kinda shit I want to hear about Star Trek, but STD and The Picard Show burned me REAL bad, and I'm afraid. If I watch it and it also sucks, that's 3 in a row, pretty much guarantees that live-action Star Trek is done(at least, it won't ever be for trekkies again). As long as I procrastinate, though, it stays in a state of flux where it could be good, so there's still hope for the future.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you're looking for a real ST fix, this is not it. It can be entertaining only if you turn your brain off.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I will be the voice of dissent and say that, no its... not that good. Everyone talks through quips like a bad Whedon movie, episodes are made with drama in mind with awful science that an elementary schooler would find lackluster (I know older treks were bad, but not THIS bad) for example the Enterprise has doors directly into space without airlocks. And complete utter disregard to previous canon.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I don't need it to be better than DS9, I just need it to not be awful.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recommend "Lower Decks" instead for your cannon fix. In this new era of Trek, cannon is up for grabs and respect for TOS era is out the window, for live action. Most are humor infused, yes, but it NEVER leaves you going, "That wasn't Star Trek." Unfortunately if you want well written Trek for anything nowadays, you'll have to look for old TrekLit books from 1980-2016.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh, I LOVE Lower Decks. I initially only gave it a chance to earn the right to shit on it(I may be an asshole, but I DO have standards), and it won me over almost immediately. If you were to check my Facebook for that day, you could witness my ascent from cynicism to total enthusiasm. It's insane to me that the PARODY is the one that understands trekkies the best. And while it IS a parody, the actual stories they tell are LEGIT Star Trek stories.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I still think they should put Kurtzman out to pasture and bring in Mike McMahan to be the EP for all of Trek. He seems to be the only guy who "gets" it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say it's the best Trek since Voyager. And I don't say that to shit on Enterprise, I love Enterprise, I just love Lower Decks more.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're a solid fan of TNG - Picard Season 3 is the 'real' ending to TNG, Ignore season 1 and 2, go into Season 3 with a fresh view. It's a completely redone, intelligent and well done proper send off to the show. This is what everyone who enjoyed Star Trek during it's prime wanted. - As someone who never watched Discovery (And heard terrible things.) And Picard 1/2 were a major let down, but enjoyed TNG/DS9/Voyager, it's worth it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, if you want a fresh, enjoyable silly version of Star Trek, Lower Decks is fantastic, a little rough in parts of Season 1, but I recommend it. References, silly comments, bringing back others for voice acting, it's finished it's fourth season, and has really brought life back into the show. - SNW needs a few episodes to settle into, and I recommend lower decks be watched before moving onto SNW season 2, but there's some witty, and some silly, but it holds up well as 'Star Trek'.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Picard s3 was certainly better than 1-2, but it was still shit. It just wasn't "this should actually be illegal" bad. Don't fret, though, nothing Patrick Stewart ever does will unmake TNG, so I will always love the man.

My favourite st episode ever. Lower decks and snw have reinvigorated my love for the franchise. Discovery can suck my bat'leth

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I wanted to like Discovery.. Like was *so* excited to see how they'd handle adding to the TOS era. Sadly.. it did not go well and I was seriously disappointed with the way the fell into bad trope after bad trope. I loved the crew's representation and the casting, everyone was perfect for the characters they played. But the plotlines were just not written or handled well. Especially disliked the unnecessary change to the Klingons too.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Klingon appearance big minus indeed but offset by them speaking Klingon with subtitles. Pulling it from Netflix and removing access for Europe entirely for a whole year is what killed it for me. Duck you Paramount+

Lower Decks is fun. You can tell the creator loves Star Trek and knows what to poke fun of and what to take seriously. It's just a nice silly Trek with a lot of heart

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Honestly you can watch it as a standalone of SNW, but I would watch Lower Decks to really appreciate it. (I don't care much for SNW, but do love LD and I was able to follow just fine without SNW background)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

oh no, I mean, because I love Lower Decks, that alone makes me consider watching SNW

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gotcha. Yeah, I love lower decks, but personally couldn't stick with SNW. Couldn't even tell you why really. I enjoy the actors, they do a good job, but I think I just found it overall...dull or slow.
