That IS a panther. A panther is just a leopard or jaguar that has two copies of a recessive allele that make its fur very dark.

They're black leopards. Basically Jaguars are Western and Leopards are Eastern. Slightly different marking. My favorite cats.

I think they're both depending on the area but not separate species. "Panthers" deal w/ issues r/t melanism so markings don't matter as much
