I can't believe this was 20 years ago, but whenever I watch Kerri Strug's second vault that won team USA the gold in the all-around, I still get chills. Moments like these are why I love watching the Olympics.

I remember watching this! I had a big crush on the gymnastics team afterwards. Especially Ms. Strug here.

She kind of looks like Eleven

Whoa. Had no idea that was so long ago. I saw that when it happened. That makes me old.

That summer EVERY little girl in our town had the Kerri Strug haircut. My sister and I lopped off feet of hair. Dad was gutted.

I remember watching this as a kid. Amazing

Karate Kid much?

I'm a grown man. This always makes me a little teary eyed. That dedication is admirable no matter where you're from.

The judge on the left reaction in the last gif lol

She experiences 3 different emotions in 1 second and makes a face for each. It's gold honestly

I'm a 40 yo man. I still tear up when I see this.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just imagine the pain doing the the second vault but at the same time the sheer joy of winning the gold. Just amazing.

Basically the movie Bronze stole this story line lol

straight beast.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Technically, the US would have won without it, but they didn't know for sure at that point. Still, I agree - best. Moment. Ever.

Yep. Screw the country aspect. That girl won an olympic gold with a broken ankle. Thats a fucking triumph.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I like the girl who won gold the other day that dived to win

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I never noticed. But I think I saw tears on her cheeks. The determination to push through the pain. Damn.

Moceanu's score would have been sufficient to beat the Russians even if Strug had not performed a second vault.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which they didn't know at the point that Strug was doing her vault.

You can't fake that look. She's in real pain. True American hero.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'm pretty sure I've seen that look in movies so...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's some tyranosaurus level badassery there.

I was a kid and my older brother was a teen, and not a year goes by that he regrets not going to the Atlanta games. We live an hour away

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Be glad you didn't go on explosion night!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like it when she lands ~ "FAAARRRKKK!"

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yeah, her face clearly telegraphs just how painful that jump & landing was...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wife is asleep with her hand on my chest and I'm struggling to move as little as possible while silently laughing uncontrollably.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chills every single time. Short documentary years later.. what was going thru her mind; what her coach said - https://youtu.be/7ZRYiOa5lM8

is it just me, or does she SO have the crazy eye... make sense i guess.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Bah. Video isn't available in my country. Damn it. I pay US taxes! If the NSA is so all powerful, I demand they fix this! Hmph. ;)

So Bela was the original Waterboy Townie? /a/vYMve

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

she is so hot

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had such a ridiculous love obsession with this woman that summer.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I got my hair cut like her. It was not as cute on me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You don't know that for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, I'm pretty confident in that one. My hair was too curly for it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All in the eyes of the beholder.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still can't believe she did that on a broken ankle. I think the world is coming to an end when I stub my toe.

Kurt Angle won a gold medal with a broken friggin neck

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My lovely idiot boyfriend broke his right ankle one morning, and the proceeded to finish a full day of work and then drove. Adrenaline, man.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was broken? Holy shit.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

No, I think it was a really bad grade 3 sprain

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Torn ligaments, not broken. But still.

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I tore a ligament in my thumb clean off. It didn't start healing for 2 years. I blacked out from the pain. Much worse than breaking it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never done that but THAT SOUNDS SO MUCH FUCKING WORSE!!!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Broken is worse. It doesn't heal as well and does not allow proper movement. Torn ligaments are painful but less worrysome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Torn ligaments heal much better. Both are highly painful and should really allow you to walk, much less vault.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Both are painful, but ligaments usually heal better.

Recruits in basic training sometimes ignore broken bones for days or even weeks (to avoid being stuck in medical as a recruit). Olympians

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't want to be there any longer than absolutely nessisary.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

would totally do it for the ONE MOMENT they trained for. When what you poured your life into depends on you being a badass, you step up.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also, I'd say adrenaline has a part to play in it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh definitely. But there's a certain amount of willpower in agreeing to risk to injure yourself again.
