Proper maintenance and smooth driving behaviors are much bigger returns. Minimizing AC use (heat is almost free in a gasoline car), keeping to moderate speeds, knowing when AC is a better deal than open windows, etc. can save you a lot of money.

Most cars have removeable seats. If you only ever ride solo, consider removing the rear passenger seats, safely drape them in plastic and keep them out of rain in garage. They are like 200 kilos each. It may reduce the bulk some and let you start/stop with greater ease, which is half of driving on crowded urban roads.

While true, removing a couple hundred pounds of unnecessary weight(I've seen people just keep a couple bags of dog food in the trunk and other crap) is easy. Trying to improve the aerodynamics of a modern car without a wind tunnel is incredibly difficult.

Honestly, probably AND for the near term. Renewables keep getting better but adding modern nuclear (low risk, low waste) and geothermal to the mix will help a lot.
Fingers crossed we crack commercially viable fusion within 20 years (which is possible but not certain).

DC’s are mostly built where there’s excess local capacity, and they’re a profit center for the power company. And the power usage is industrial scale but not beyond that, so well within normal grid planning constraints.

Methinks you have your numbers reversed. In 2023, all but 20% of electricity produced in the US, came from fossil fuels. Only 10% of those were nuclear, and other 10 was renewable energy.

no but will probably impact the trucks and cargo ships that haul battery materials from all around the globe. Not overly informed on it but from my passing knowledge, those batteries have to be replaced pretty often and for quite a bit of cash.

Batteries needing to be replaced in EVs is an outdated thing. That hasn’t been an issue in a very long time. And even when it was a genuine issue, the total cost of ownership was still lower than most combustion cars.

(That was in 2023) In the trump era, that is not going to change for the better. Only about 10% of US electricity comes from nuclear power plants, so take a wild guess on how much renewable energy is being produced...
