Gotta Love Crappy Management

Gotta Love Shitty Management

So a couple weeks ago a lady came in trying to get an invalid item with this coupon. I told her no and she asked for my name which I gave her. Later that week she apparently complained to corporate. Corporate got mad and complained to the owner of the store and he complained to the GM. Which then decided to push the blow back down to me and canned me. All because I followed the rules. Gotta love shitty management.

*Edit* Well didn't expect this to get all the way to the FP. But anyways I love to thank the imgurians who have sent me messages but I think I should shed some light onto what really happened. So what happened was I explained to the lady what was going on and what we offer at the pizza place. Explained everything to her and built her pizza how she wanted. Now since we serve and make thin crust pizza its pretty much a war of attrition trying to build the pizza because if you put on to many toppings the pizzas will be burnt and not thoroughly cooked. (Also that war of an attrition part, that came straight from one of my other managers mouths :/) I kept asking her, "is this enough?" and she of course replied with, "NO PUT A WHOLE LOT MORE ON IT". Then at the register as I said she tried to use a coupon that specifically states for this type of pizza and not the one she was trying to get (Also when I first started there all the managers told me that it was for that type of pizza and if we accepted it for any others well...... We were wrong). So all in all I got screwed but oh well. Also you guys are awesome and thank you for all the support.

Lol why would you ever give them your real name. Even my coworkers don't know my name most of the time

How is your sister getting hired relevant to the story? I think you're leaving a lot out here, OP. Sorry about your job, though.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Actually when you go to collect unemployment you may have a leg to stand on. Pull out your emp handbook. They may have screwed themselves.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What the fuck? That's messed up!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats life bro. Innocent people get fucked. Can't do anything about it but get over it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Grow up and fight for your job! Get Fair Work on their asses

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck asshole managers.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I believe this. Worked for Walmart and my Fiancee works at Lowe's. Shit like this happens. They might fire you for "other" reasons.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Fuck'em, you'll find a place that you enjoy a lot more.. assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

America right? Can't do that shit here in the UK. People should really start banding together and fight back.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plot twist: he is Brad's wife

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

sue them ? :) this is america after all :P - if u live in the USA

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some guy went off on me today for not just "giving" him a twenty percent off and free item coupon. Insisted all the other stores do it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You don't get a special prize for just showing up. Especially not a free item. Bring the fucking coupon.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

/a/Efnal

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

/a/Efnal

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty much the sum of it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well your sister can burn the place down now like a good sibling

9 years ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 2

I'm planning on it

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

be sure to blame the original lady for it. set her up for arson. so it's double karmic justic.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You got it. She is a piece of work.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Everyone's giving this dude crap. No ones talking about crazy coupon bitch. Who actually has the time to call/write to corporate...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You were either rude to her or she's a complete bitch. Either way, sorry about your job loss.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Feel like there is more to this story

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why... Why would you give her your name and not expect to be complained about?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He kinda has to. People are assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That happens to people with integrity and accountability. Welcome to the club.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once got fired from work because I needed to go to the ER. Apparently, not a valid excuse.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I was your sister I would go the the GM and ask him if it's gonna be okay now to accept expired coupons. Then I would get a shit

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... ton and hand them out to family friends and close co-workers. Use them. Have corporate goons go WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I call BS

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 18

Anyone I've ever worked with who was fired totally deserved it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Never had a job eh?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

He didn't deserve it believe me. After he left the other managers and all the employees working were so confused like wtf happened

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 10

No, as in, your story is not believable.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 15

But it happened....

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 9

Well prove it then.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 18

Go in and use an expired coupon then complain to corporate see what happens to that employee. If you worked in retail you'd understand

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On Tuesday I'll try to get evidence... I'm making no promises though.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Then you can sue for being fired for following rules.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sucks when it's like that at the top, everyone suffers. All he had to do was ask you what happened. Hope you get a better job somewhere else

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You might have a lawsuit there @OP

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been there, my friend. Sorry your managers didn't stand behind you

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So is your sister single or not

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Hi I'm sister

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

oh hey... hows the job going?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

its terrible you should apply!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She's single.. .. now I feel like I made a grave mistake by replying to this.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But is she hot tho? cuz if she's hot and single she's probably crazy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Somthing tells me your just a shitty employee.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 19

Something about your spelling tells me you're not exactly employee of the month, Freud.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

Me anglish be na soo goop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why? If he got his sister a job, then his opinion wasn't completely worthless. He did his job, and the customer said what they wanted later.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Right but you don't get fired for something like that. I'm in management I would never fire somebody for something like that unless you suck

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Or unless it was my first 3 to 4 weeks on the job :/

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sounds like they got all riled up by the customer and they didn't ask him. You're assuming his managers were like you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then you are a better manager, there are plenty of shitty managers out there who would fire for something that stupid

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

im sure all management workers are not a hivemind in which all members act identically

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I suppose you're right.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So your sister still works there. That's your pipeline in. Have her rob the fuckin place blind. Til you feel satisfied. Do it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You sir are the best

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Totally my #1 priority

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you no mechanism that protects your position in shit like this? Unfair dismissal?

9 years ago | Likes 508 Dislikes 10

Ahahahahahahahahahah, no, this is the United States. If s/he's in retail, s/he's probably not even going to get unemployment, either.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If it's California, it's "at-will" employment - so for whatever reason you can get fired whenever.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's called a baseball bat to your bosses legs.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've had a lot of interesting replies from everyone, thank you. Except @op.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: Europe wanted the US to install basic worker rights as part of TTIP.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure, at least in most US corporations, peons sign away that right so the company doesn't have to eat shitty employees for long.

9 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 10

At-will employment blows

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the USA? Ha ha ha ha ha ha hah hah hah hah hah hah ha ha ha ha HA HA HA HA HA hah hah hah hah hah hah HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH *inhales* (1)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

ha ha ha ha ha hah hah hah hah hah hah ha ha ha ha HA HA HA HA HA hah hah hah hah hah hah HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! (fin)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Corporations lobby government and the only protection now is racism, sexism, and ageism (hard to get justice even so). You get hurt on the

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

job? Rough shit, fight for workers comp and typically get a terrible settlement

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Corporations have more rights than people in the USA.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 7

A lot of states are called "At will states" because no law protects staff from being fired at will (and by the same token, staff aren't

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

obligated to give notice (unless they want a good reference of course). At least, that's how it is in the US of A

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There's an option to dismiss without cause. But if you fire *with cause*, you must substantiate cause, and there's a process for that.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indiana is an at will state. Meaning an employer can fire anyone at will as they see fit. With or without reason. The owner of the company/1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That I work for has fired an entire cleaning staff of 20 people because one of them bumped his classic Cadillac with a vacuum. Owns a car /2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dealership among other things. He has also fired people because he didn't like their hair style, and one person was transgender and he /3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Told their supervisor "get rid of it." They were fired shortly after. So depending on what state op is, there may be nothing you can do.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He must pay out a lot of unemployment.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope. I got fired because a coworker on my day off picked up a winning scratcher ticket that some left behind. I was on duty when he cashed

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It so I was complacent in his "crime"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Are you kidding me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unionize.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's hilarious! Say that out loud, you're fired. Even if you get it to a vote, expect threats and intimidation from management. If it >

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

passes a vote, expect contact negotiations to take two years. After that, expect to get written up daily for petty bullshit "because the >

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

contract says we have to." When it's time to renegotiate the contract, expect two more years of negotiation and brinksmanship >

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

from both sides, and no guarantee that the company won't just close your location. It's a really ugly process.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Certain states (like maryland) have "no fault" laws, meaning an employer can fire an employee for no reason at all

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's weird give & take with unemployment benefits. Because a lot of companies stupidly give a reason... so you can get benefits.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, a lot of companies aren't total dicks about it. In fact, a large number still refuse to do it without a reason, because there's 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I worked at a place that contested the unemployment, and outsourced handling it to a company that... uh, doesn't... use the phone. For a 1+

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 teleconference hearing. They just... don't answer. And since the unemployment office is instructed to look for any excuse to grant it...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still the risk of lawsuit and bad publicity. And I'm pretty sure I meant "at will" and not "no fault"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As far as.i.know.the lady just wrote a very bad message to corporate and they needed a head to chop... I wan.a compare it.to when that 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I'm not being facetious but... better call Saul.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I find it difficult to believe that they needed to cut down on staff right after hiring your sister...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

a lot of things customer service jobs do is difficult to believe. shoptracker/conversion in a pet store?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hate to break this to you, but companies don't ACTUAL enjoy hiring or training new people. Nor do they fire someone just to placate a 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

i can think of a few that don't train in the first place.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Single disgruntled customer/client. I get blaming the company/management is a good crutch, but very possible there was a good reason. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I gave her my name.so she knew who the faulty employee was and corporate knew.... yay fun

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One river that caught on fire in northern ohio... all the supervisors never got fired.. it was the employees that were dumping the stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You get your ass into that managers office and demand to know why some fucking cunt's word is worth more than your built up rep.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Either they have some sort of pull with the boss that's against fair employment legislation or you weren't a good employee. Sort it out.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right to work is bullshit.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It can be nice too believe it or not. If I sign a 6 month contract with a company I can quit anytime and get paid for work prior no issues.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't have to give notice or anything and don't have to give any reason for leaving. It's a double edged sword because the company can2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And if you don't give notice, they'll never hire you again. Or recommend you. But even so, you never have to give reason with notice.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right to work, bruh. You can Fuck them, at will, but they'll likely Fuck you first. Still better than handing off ~10% to a labor union.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 22

10%? It's not a fucking church.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude, My dues are 50 dollars a month. I make 21 dollars an hour. Having rights and good wages are an even trade imo.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Unions don't guarantee anything for you and you give up your right to speak for yourself. You pay money for them to speak on your behalf.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I get full health, dental, and vision. Legal services, 6k in bonuses every year on top of all the personal days and vacation days.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I didnt get any of that not working for unions. They arent all equal, but my expierence has been nothing but positive

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a guy whos in a union, unions can fuck you over in just as many different ways

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Right to work is ruining your country. I will fight tootg and nail to keep it from mine.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I kinda liked when i lived in a right to work state. I didnt have to deal with nearly as many shitty coworkers

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Your ignorance of right to work is sad. I suggest you read more.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Some states have protections. Others do not. In the states that do not.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

You can get fucked for anything. Aside from what is federally protected groups. (Minorities and old folks)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

In my state company can fire you for no reason what so ever. They are also obligated not to tell your future employers why they fired you.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nope, no state can override the federal guide lines on firing people for being part of a federally protected griup

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2/ but if the new manager doesn't like black folks he can fire them for any reason they want, so long as they say its not race based

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly that's what I'm getting at. They can fire you for being gay/black/atheist whatever. As long as they don't say that's why.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
