Why in so many to a cluster? If you have to fix something would that make it harder? What if it was in bundles of ten, then velcroed..

This is ironically the most sfw thing I've seen all day.

I think you mean too safe for work.... Normally you have wires going everywhere

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uuuuuurrrrggghhhhhh

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Former data center guy: this is pretty but I would rather fight a mess than cut 30 zip ties to replace one patch cable. USE VELCRO.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unbearable need to chomp these cables

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These are not patch cables. This is structured wiring. It's meant to be installed and never fucked with. Zip ties are acceptable.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Patching happens on the other side of the rack.

Evertz eqx router?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love cable porn

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm kind of upset that nothing is colour coded.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait a sec... those are BNC connectors... what ARE these?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Evertz EQX baseband router. Used for analog video broadcasting.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cool, thanks my dude!

Looks more like ribs than backbone

She approves.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if only one of those cables brakes?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love that it's all purple and not a generic blue, yellow, or beige. Nice work tho!

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Purple is the standard colour for reduced-smoke cable, in the UK at least. And it looks classier for it =]

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We use purple for AES audio here in the US

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whoever is picking colors in the UK is doing a good job )

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought this is for multi mode fiber

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What.. what is reduced-smoke cable? They only vape when they take a break?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The kind you put into the structure of a building so they don't send smoke into the air during a fire.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see. I think that means they're more combustible (incomplete combustion causes smoke). Do they tend to be shielded well?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think they're shielded; the sheathing just feels glossier and supposedly burns relatively smokelessly. Not sure how it works.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes I will be that guy. Every time this is reposted: velcro, not zip ties. Tear it out and start over.

5 years ago | Likes 389 Dislikes 10

If you have to move anything in there the ties are the least of the problems

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Also non colored is always a pain in the ass (although not anywhere near as bad as permanent zip ties)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Can someone please explain what a 'permanent' zip tie is?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A zip tie which doesn't have a nice lever to back it out. You can get ones which can be done and un-done really easily

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What kind of job does this kind of stuff? Like is there a title one would search for?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They probably started with veclro and then replaced it with ties. Or they're just that good at doing this work

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. At my work everything is zipped crazy tight so whenever boss asks to fix something quickly it's like... yeah, well, not gonna happen.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If its a clean room they can't use velcro

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or put velcro next to the zip ties before you cut them. No need to be extreme.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok mom

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Starting over seems unnecessary, just replace one at a time, or don't bother and just go watch porn

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every port is used. Just leave it alone.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just cut them and reapply. It's zip ties, not gold bracelets.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I bet these go into walls and most likely are never coming out

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

They almost always take something out or add something. Servers will always need updating. It’s never permanent.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"never coming out" - hah. Saying that guarentees a need for access maintenance.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Life-cycling ~5yrs, they will and must be replaced, in the mean time brocken ports are a Thing too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If this is in a medical care facility of some kind velcro wouldn't fly from what I've read. It cannot be disinfected easily.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those are labeled video camera labels. I would leave it

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

oooh yeah they look like total noobs!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

THANK YOU!! it makes me cringe hard, every time!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Goddess to I loathe zip ties. What a nightmare to cut them all off whenever I have to replace a cable.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Leave it and add one, do not disturb the stack

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or reusable zip ties. Ever since I found out they exist I never buy normal zip ties.

5 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 3

Those are pretty great

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's usually not that they are not reusable. It's about crushing the cable. It's super simple to do with zip ties, but not with velcro.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Oh, yeah, that makes sense.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically most zip-ties are re-usable, you just need a tiny shim to lift the "lock" inside them

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

yeah, not after you shorten them to exact lenght

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mechanically, yes. you can reuse a ziptie a few times. Its better to use velcro here. use the zipties as you are tightening up, then replace

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To replace 1 cable here you'd need to undo at least ten ties. That sounds like a lot of work this way...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just talking in generalities here, with the shims. Honestly for a job like this, twist ties would even work better here
