I am nearly sure you can single load up to 6+1 in the chamber, pretty slow and high risk of garand thumb. Almost better to unload and 1/?

I would say that you're just being correct.
SA, relies on the weapon action to cock the hammer, and once it goes forward, must manually recock. DA, the trigger pull cocks the hammer
... so a DA trigger pull is longer and heavier, which isn't really desirable. Also, most semiautos have a last round hold open.

Yes. The magazine, detachable or not, is from which the bolt feeds cartridges to the chamber. Now, something like a break-open shotgun
