Yeah, nothing's forcing them to enlist, except possibly a lack of jobs that pay a living wage, with many of the higher-paying jobs requiring a college degree, but most people can't afford to pay for college upfront, so they need to choose between 1) taking out student loans that could take decades to pay off, or 2) joining the army so they'll get assistance paying for college.
