Over the years I generally have considered myself a Republican with a Libertarian bent. I believe in fiscal responsibility, free trade, hand ups not hand outs, free press, honesty, treating people with respect, and generally letting people do what they want as long as it doesn't impact others. My chief difference in standard issues is I strongly believe in separation of church and state, and that health care will bankrupt the country unless something is done.
Our current president is the opposite of everything I was taught a good person should be. He lies, bullies, belittles, doesn't treat women with respect, and attacks anyone that disagrees with him. When I hear my conservative friends and family blindly justify his actions, quite frankly it disgusts me. I realize he is their team captain, and even Cleveland Brown fans will defend their team, but at some point you have to accept that your coach is doing more harm than good and is pulling the team down with him.
TLDR: Blind support of something can be a bad thing. Downvoting this just proves my point.

Happy Canada day!

Politicians work for votes, not for people.

You are getting downvoted because comfortable people don't want to be bothered, even if other people are dying. They have theirs.

the usual counter i see is 'he's better than clinton' which i think is just a dumb statement on its face regardless of party.

Burning down the country from the inside out is far less of an issue than EVER being willing to side on ANY issue with those damn "libtards"

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

Well said OP. Used to be Democrat but Hillary? Never. Would vote straight middle of the road party ticket.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

"Downvoting proves my point." I love how you need internet points to feel like you validated your opinion.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't vote for him, but down voting cuz of yer bitchy, whiny little close. Also, Neil Gorsuch says Hi.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish there were more conservatives like you. I know I sure as hell would not have voted for Trump, even if the Dems had nominated him.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sorry, you Canadians shouldn't have U.S. politics inflicted on you any time, let alone on a happy celebratory day. ..HAPPY CANADA DAY???????

I read this, but always downvote political anything. The "downvoting this proves my point" seems like a defense against political downvoting

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Same.

It seems the Republicans have made sure to become the party for the religious following. Thusly, getting the crowd who follow blindly.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can never give insights or enlightenment to a strong believer in anything. Well played Republicans.

I hope this guy gets fucked to death in prison.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I came here for memes not another political post

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As opposed to blindly upvoting? Lol

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 11

Yeah, I was on the fence before reading that bit. Convinced me I needed to put a red arrow in Old Yeller.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Woo wee we sure are in a doozy of a pickle now. If I downvote I'm a Trump supporter, if I upvote I am Clinton supporter. *I dv all politics.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Only 3 and a half years left.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

And you are committing suicide?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I'm looking at it from the outside and I'm thinking: How can most of you not see what's going on?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Obviously the liberal who posted this is a hater living in the world of snowflakes crying themselves to sleep in their man diaper.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Majority of republicans are libertarians who are too afraid to self identify

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

That doesn't explain their stances on drugs, women's health and sexual preferences.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And majority of libertarians are white, middle class, males who don't recognize the need for social safety nets for some reason...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

At least he wont take away your guns.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

How can he take away our guns when Obama already did that?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

exactly

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He lost by far the popular vote of the American people. That he can be President proves there's something wrong in the US.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No I'm downvoting because you brought politics to Imgur and I come here to laugh and see cats.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 19

Fair enough. If I knew how to post a pic of a cat in here I would. At least it's better than that Asian guy they keep posting.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Thank you for saying this. Unfortunately it is the same on both sides of the aisle. Can't tell you how many times I have been accused of (1)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

being a Trump supporter because some of my beliefs are not in lockstep with a Democratic point of view

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I gave you an up vote, BUT...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

Technically I made a statement, not a loaded question ;)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I wish people would just stop following someone based on their political party and start listening to their platform.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 7

I agree. Both parties are trying to make people more extreme so they don't lose people in the middle. We need a "Middle of the road party"

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

The people that voted for him liked his platform though. you have to judge him by his actions too, and whether he's likely to enact (1)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

said platform. Anyone could have told you he was lying about most of what he said. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He promised to bring back jobs and "Bring back America." Which no one knows what that means.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, there's a lying, womanizing piece of shit in the White House?!! Someone should tell the Kennedys

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

But more importantly to most of these people, he's not a Democrat. And that's really all that matters to most Republicans.

8 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 11

He actually was a registered Democrat for much longer than his current impersonation. Also donated $100k to Clinton Global Initiative.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But her emails!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm not even sure he's human.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Therein lies the problem. "Us VS Them". So as long as one side is willing to burn the country down to spite the other,

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

, American politics will remain a world stage circus.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wasn't he a democratic recently too? Like he's switched parties multiple times.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He says what will get him what he wants at the time. He's never cared a lick about anything political.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He is a Democrat. Or was, until he realised they would never let him run. He was a huge Hilary supporter right up until his candidacy....1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Trump isn't a Democrat. Or a Republican. He's 1000% into it all for himself. How could you say such a ridiculous thing?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I said he WAS. Up until around 2013-2014. And I said it because historically speaking he agreed with policies from Democrats. And donated

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heavily to their campaigns. Even the Obama birthed thing was a ploy to get him more camera time while he agreed with everything Obama did.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You don't seem to get it - he was never "in" a party, and he's never represented the values of either. He's apolitical, he just says this

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or that to get what he wants. As it stands. The Republicans will give him everything he wants now.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Promised universal health care on the campaign trail. He used to point out how higher taxes on the rich paid for all the infrastructure 2/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That allowed the rich to make even more money, which in turn paid for better infrastructure.... means easier time selling goods, on so on.3/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

He was a Democrat through and through until he saw he could win as a Republican. He a flip flopping turncoat. And it turns out he was 4/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Only in it for himself and his friends.
