Vote Democrat or never get the chance to vote again. Putin is teaching Donold exactly how to do it.

los Angeles county has more population than 40 states

A lot of people who don't know the effect won't vote and so suffer the consequences.

Actually, head for Minneapolis. Relatively warmer (but depending on where you were, possibly still 'too cold'), a wide variety of spoken languages, and unlike St. Paul, it's outside of ICE jurisdiction, making it that much more immigrant-friendly. We have the most Somalian, Hmong, and Vietnamese-speaking immagrants in the USA, based on info collected at ESL-teaching schools.

And a lot of those larger red circles have turned blue with white suburban voters going to the democratic party.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it does in MERICA, but give it another couple hundred years they might figure it out.

Pesticides dude. Pesticides.

Republicans point to those maps and say "Look at how much red!" but they think land votes because they think of themselves as serfs.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is more important then ever this election (I know they say that every election) but unless we want democracy taken away, a criminal running the country, pardoning himself and other REAL criminals, and then using the office to take revenge on people, we must vote, vote like your life depends on it as it really does this time

Texas is working on restructuring their voting so that state positions like governor will only be elected by a county electorate vote to allow the bum-fuck Red counties with 3 people to overrule the metropolitan cities which are Blue.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The republicans and maga: Buh buh buh, theres dem reds all over how lose?

Jee I dunno, I dont think the vote of farmer mcmillionare with 30 km square of land should count for more than joe schmoe making minimum wage in the city...

I fucking love this gif.

What's that big red blot in the southwest?

Arizona. This map is very likely from the 2016 election, where Trump won over Clinton in the election. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_presidential_election_in_Arizona

Changing the size of the Senate requires a Constitutional amendment. The size of the House can be changed by legislation. Rep. Casten of Illinois proposed a bill to accomplish this in 2023. Doing that would substantially reduce the senatorial premium.

One out of roughly every 38 people in the US lives in New York City.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

"So, if you know 38 people, one of them lives in NYC." - Cunk-esque interpretation

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The other 38 live in Los Angeles.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Neither should the electorial college

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remeber when one guy handed out those maps in The Oval Office?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tell that to the Electoral College…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is an old map. The county I'm in is now a blue dot.

In the US federal election - it does. We can fix that though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

According to the electoral college land does vote unfortunately

2 years ago | Likes 193 Dislikes 3

I assume the system is set up that way so people living in remote areas are also represented?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So the electoral college is really all the rich people who own all the land. Makes sense that our bought officials are so adamantly against abolishing it.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the senate

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

It's the same problem. EC is messed up because it adds together the # of house reps and senate reps. Senate being 2-per-state throws off the EC. If the states had similar populations it wouldn't be a big deal, but since they're wildly different, it's an issue.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True dat

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

No. Electoral college says states votes. The disproportionate vote comes from population per state, with zero regard for the land involved. Rhode island and Montana get the same number of votes.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Are your state legislature voted in by popular vote? Or do the districts decide? No. It's one person one vote. All except president. Do you think states should vote for the whole country or people or districts should vote for the governor? What if we swapped them for a year? That would be a fun ride.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are states made of?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is why the EC will never be slain. The GOP would likely never win the WH again, after all they would need appealing candidates rather than loud ones.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

GOP once had an appealing candidate & president that was hated by Democrats. So much so, the Democrats decided to leave the Union. That president's name was Lincoln & he freed the slaves.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Yes yes, and everyone remotely educated knows that the parties flipped positions in waves with FDR and the New Deal as well as when the Civil Rights Act was passed.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which is the problem. Even those with a college level education have god awful understanding of US & World History. Which is why I'm not surprised at the assumption that the GOP is now dead forever. Ignorance is rampant and ever present, and no one is immune from it's effects. Half the country thinks Trump should be the next president. That's an ungodly number of people with a deficient history background.

What I get from this is, if I ever would emigrate to US, it should be to north-east corner of Minnesota.

2 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 0

Just come to Canada

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's beautiful up there.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NE Minnesota or SE Michigan are both awesome places.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm from Minnesota. I go to NE MN to go to the boundary waters every year. Absolutely wonderful place.

Bring several coats. Hope you like hoddish!

It’s a very rad, but very cold, place. But you’d be most welcome, wherever you came from.

It's full of furries. Do it.

Are you from Scandinavia? I’m pretty sure that’s what all the Scandinavian immigrants decided.

Benefit of also being the only state to not go for Reagan in 1984.

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Who knew they had it right that ol Ronnie was already half out the door mentally and everyone around him knew it.
And that does not even touch his criminal stuff. Just a bunch of "I dont recall".
THey should of impeached him but he was the most popular president since Ike. Everyone knew he was untouchable.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, doubling down on the tease are we?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If you really want to get into it the west coast is really nice. The major cities are great but homelessness is off the charts. And cost of living is too. NYC is cool, but better for young people. Its really noisy. I really like Ann arbor Michigan and Charlottesville Virginia, but the racism is BAD. Washington state is currently rated with the general highest overall quality of life, though I would recommend a place just outside of Seattle. Again because of the homelessness and cost of living.

Mild summers. Lots of winter

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I emigrated away from southern Minnesota. People aren’t as nice as they’re cracked up to be.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey, some of us are! You just won't find us because we're also introverts and we don't have the spoons to be out.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*immigrate to somewhere, emigrate from somewhere

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Just say migrate to be safe

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or better yet, just say "move" - thus snipping any grammar debates right in the butt.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This keeps coming up and I honestly feel like it's a result of how it's being taught in school - presumably exactly like you just put it. But while that helps to teach school kids the directional difference between the words, it doesn't mean what people seem to take away from it. One can absolutely emigrate FROM somewhere TO somewhere else. If I'm in Germany & about to move to the US, I'm emigrating TO the US.

That is why countries always have a problem with immigrants (people moving into the country) as opposed to emigrants.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Correct

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Many Americans - perhaps MOST Americans - could not point out where Minnesota was on a blank map.

It’s easy to miss! All tucked away down there….

It's the chef's hat of the states that make up the shape of a man holding a tray of Kentucky fried chicken. I know that only because it also looks sort of like a crunched up soda can. MinneSoda

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would take me a solid minute to find it on a labeled map.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm pretty sure I could nail them all, although I always have to think a moment when it comes to VT/NH. (I remember it by remembering Champy is Vermont's, and that lake is on the border with New York. Yes, this is a dumb mnemonic. But it works.)

Then again, I went through school in the '80s and first half of the '90s, back when our education system was at least somewhat educational.

... I don't think I can name all 50 state capitals anymore, and that makes me sad. I hope I can still get >30.

Got all 58 correct. Did have to cram a few extra North- and South in there for some weird reason though.
