1 million yen is roughly 10k USD, so not really.
My math is horrible.
It's ok, happens to plenty of people. The yen to USD conversion rate is usually ~100:1 so you usually can divide by 100 and be close enough.
MoaConstrictor
I mean, yen are just pennies, really. It's like they don't have two-step currency
soejmud
Well, why would they have to. A long time ago, a single Yen might have actually been worth something.

Still enough for college
thor0486
what college do you think costs 10k? Not in the US that's for damn sure.
CheeseIsNaturesFudge
The USA is totally the outlier for tuition costs, globally. Really shouldn't be a surprise someone said that.
Depends on the college, and more importantly the country. Some colleges charge $50k per semester here in the US for just tuition.

1 US dollar = about 109 yen. And 1000 US dollar = about 100k yen. So it's not 91k more like 9.1k.

StanielRonathan
It just sold poorly and failed to break even, the studio didn't apologize for anything. It's just relevant because it was the first time...
KyoAni had a commercial failure, they were previously viewed as a seemingly invincible studio. Why it failed nobody really seems to offer
a good reason because the manga kept running until December of 2015- 4 years past the show's production. For what it's worth, the show did
cover nearly all of the available manga material at the time of its production, rather accurately and gorgeously.
My apologies I gotta read things better and stop getting so much second hand info. It just sold super poorly. 1/?
"The first DVD volume sold 924 copies in its first week of sales, while the second and fourth BD volumes sold over 2,000 copies each..." 2/3

Ah, that I can believe. Lots of anime that is popular in the west fails in Japan, it's a real shame. Meanwhile at kyoani... $$$$$$$
KyoAni wasn't $$$, Nichijou failed to break even. It also broke their reputation as an invincible studio as their first commercial failure.
What I meant by that was, the studio moved on without any complications rather quickly. They usually know how to make things sell.
But you know that ofc, I read your other comments, interesting bit about shounen ace... that might be it, I can't see much else.
