My dad was denied a visa to the US today. He won't be able to attend my college graduation. I'm his only child. This is how I feel.

My father helps Hispanics come over legally(he is a pastor at a Hispanic church), One of his good friends has spent 15K to get his visa

My mom is applying for a visa to come and visit me from Mexico. I'm afraid they wont let her in

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

You should contact your congressman. If he reapplies, they can write to a letter to the consulate. It's not a sure thing, but it helps!

Let me know if you have any questions! I've worked with this a lot before.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry. That blows. Congratulations on your graduation!

Thanks, Obam.. Wait.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

did you try mastercard instead?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think OP's case belongs in "there are some things money can't buy" part

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems like he'd prefer American Express.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is no travel ban from mexico

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

But you do need a Visa. Or one of the other border crossing cards/papers/etc. It's a thing with Mexico specifically iirc.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Oh man... as a fellow Mexican, shit like this makes me so angry. You should Skype with him during the graduation. Algo es algo

9 years ago | Likes 180 Dislikes 24

Why? There's a chance that he'll stay here illegally, granted we don't know if @OP's dad is that type of person or not, but he deserves the

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 17

chance for a tourist visa if anything to see the graduation.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 15

So, what was your point?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That people won't fight me irl bruh

But...mexican it's a nationality

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Dude you're totally right. My bad.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pinche Trump.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

Depending on criminal history, financial responsibility of the sponsor, and how long he's staying are all factored in the process.

9 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 18

It's your graduation... Doest a passport give him 90days?? Is that not sufficient?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife's mother was not allowed to come to our wedding despite owning a home, business, being married, and still having a kid at home.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Just wanted a tourist visa to visits me on special occasions. Good job in Mexico and no reason that he would stay

9 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 4

If that was the reason he gave, then that's probably why. Better reason is visiting Disney Land or Vegas.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Too many people come here and stay. My family was denied visas for my graduation as well. I wish illegal immigrants realized their effect.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Ask the university to write a letter for you maybe he can get visitors visa. Had a friend who did this and worked in 2005.

@OP. ^ see above comment. Always include this to draw OP's attention, FP posters get a TON of notifications.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Also, get letters from your professors to support the visa request.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes!!! That's what my parents do!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into it!!

It's important to take your expertise to another country. Move to Canada or Germany. If they don't want you or your family, fuck em.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Become super successful, help me run for office, I'll undo this. You, sir, played by the rules. You deserve our greatest hospitality.

Then he probably shouldn't be a goddamn terrorist! Make America something something!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also congrats on graduating and sorry my sarcasm isn't always on point.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really don't understand this. He has a passport? What is stopping him from going to the country? He can't just travel for you grad?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

The US sucks ass if you want to visit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

People get denied visas to enter the US all the time. Even from countries like the Philippines where Americans don't need visas to enter.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

@PinkMonkeyBird the dept of Homeland security, Most nations require a Visa to Visit the USA, its a painful process

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Eh...? Mexicans need a visa to go into the US legally (a ladder, otherwise) if he is denied, he can't enter American soil.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

I'm going through a visa thing right now too. It's surprisingly difficult to enter the country *legally*.

My friend has been here with his mom for almost 7 years. He should get his citizenship later this year. ( he came when he was 14 )

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep, always has. Always will be. Took 11 years for my family to get our immigration

9 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 5

What's the country of origin for your visa thing? It's none of my business, of course. Just curious.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Given the user name is "ElMexicana" I'd bet its Mexico. But maybe not.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And it's about to get harder

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Hence, illegal entry.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Just fill out the ESTA but don't mark "yes" in the I am terrorist field.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 20

As a mixed person who got their passport in the past six months; it's surprisingly difficult to leave this country as well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good. Maybe it can keep out the man my mom eloped with in a foreign country within two days of meeting in person.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a phd in chemistry and it's fucking difficult, anyone who says it's easy to get into this country is delirious

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 5

What does chemistry have to do with it?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

skilled worker

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Takes a long time. My husband and I were INCREDIBLY lucky that it took only 5 months for my first petition to his approval on k1.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And it's about to get harder

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

I doubt that

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Just watch, Sessions and Trump are going to do more than approve the Travel Ban

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you get an American citizenship you can travel to 166 countries visa free. Up to 90 days.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

I'm going to be using that soon; up to 3 months in Vienna. Longer, if I can get a visa.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have to have a visa for 5 years before even applying for citizenship, plus other reqs. And then it can take another 2 years.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Australian and British passports get you that and more. I can get into Iran and Vietnam without any dicking around given I have both

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

German passport gets you 177 countries #1 bitches! Haha sorry

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

damn it feels good to be a gangsta

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually a German passport gets you to 158 countries visa free which makes the German passport the most powerfull one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am so goddamned ashamed of my country's leaders right now. I'm sorry OP, a very large portion of us didn't vote for this dickhead.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 10

But you were cool w/ Obama allowing the NSA, doubling the national debt and bombing the Middle East back to the Stone Age? Interesting

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 13

I don't remember saying any of that?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

When you say your countries leaders now it infers that you weren't ashamed then

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

To be perfectly honest with you this admin has made me start scrutinizing Shit more and the further back I go I am ashamed of all of our 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What he and the admin is doing, and if we as a people had been able to have this much information with all past admins we might not have 3/4

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Grown so complacent. Or maybe we would, most people don't pay attention as it is. Both parties only care about getting re-elected anyhow 4/4

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Leaders for something they've done. I think a lot of what has people up in arms about Trump is that we can pretty much see in real time 2/?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been waiting on my green card since 1997. Luckily I get a visa every 2 yrs while I wait and can live and work in the US in the meantime 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Took us 2 years to get our green cards in the US and i thought that was a long time!!!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You are very lucky. The category I am in and the country I am from make it painstakingly slow.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years if you're from a first world country basically. Hello fellow Colonial immigrant.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People dont realize how extremely difficult & expensive it is to do it the right way. Keep your head up OP, I'm sure your pops is very proud

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

thanks for doing it legally. I know how hard it is. My aunt came here legally. The system needs an over haul for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I dont think it should be easy to enter this country. But thanks for doing it legally.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

I don't either but 20+ years seems a little excessive. Thanks to our incompetent politicians.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

20 years? Weird my girlfriend (Romanian) did it in less then a year. I think maybe you're exaggerating.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Too bad I'm not central European. But yes, 20+ years, I have no reason to exaggerate. I filed in 97, they are barely working on people...
