It finally happened. A system that DOESN'T run doom.

Windows 13 coming soon to your computer.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you decide to unironically use a vibe-coded OS you are, in fact, a dumbass.

2 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The fact that it runs at all is pretty amazing tbh. Clearly AI sort of can do it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

so all the other OS functions are running perfectly? like user & rights mamangement. playing videos, a file browser ...

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

That's pathetic, I can get Doom running on potatoes and sunlight!

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

See AI can't run, therefore it cannot run DOOM.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's amazing what you can do when you're able to copy+paste from the source code of multiple open source operating systems.

Get back to me when it doesn't have stolen code in its training data.

I think people saying "crap, it doesn't run Doom" are missing the point. The fact it boots at all surprises me.

didn't realize sex toys were getting so smart they needed an OS...

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no copilot though?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't worry, at least Skyrim will be launched on it soon.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, that’s awesome. The .iso needs to be sent to every tech CEO so that they can see why they should pony up the money to hire junior developers after all.

"Almost entirely" So the difficult parts were done by a human. And a VERY competent human who knew what the vibe code still needed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey, "a notepad that refuses to save file" happens to me on Windows as well! (with the Spanish locale.) Neither Ctrl-G (the shortcut for "Guardar" officially stated in the menu) nor Ctrl-S (the usual international one) do anything.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So, windows?

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Nah, Windows is only 50% coded by AI. The other 50% is coded by people pretending they are not using AI.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Don't worry, they're working on it. Getting closer to a fully non-functional OS by the week.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but can the HARDWARE run DOOM?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was done by two people in just a few days? With some additional work and polishing, this could actually be quite an impressive feat. That said, I wouldn’t use it unless real humans thoroughly reviewed the code for security issues and critical errors.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Incredible to not have these things tested.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah I mean, who the hell doesn't test DOOM? It's like the hello world of applications slightly more complex than a hello world!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

vibe-os?? I thought it was being called windows 12?

Shhh, they'll get offended, throw a tantrum, and shutdown imgur

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I mean, the fact that it works at all is amazing. And it's super interesting and cool. But it should be used for a basis on how to teach a llm.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The vibes are bad on this one.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So it can’t run Doom?

2 weeks ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 0

not by itself

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shrek gif they don’t even have doom

2 weeks ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

We're going backwards

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Even a calculator can run doom. What a shitty tech

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But can it run Crysis?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing can run Crysis, everyone knows that

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anytine i see Doom now, i have to say this

2 weeks ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

Why am I being dragged?

Sounds like the Soul of Cinder OST

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Correct!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact - these "vibe os" tests usually run in a browser :D

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yea.... Sounds about right.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm a tester and one of the first intros to testing was the calculator problem. A dev makes a program to add 2 numbers. You enter in a 1 then a 2 and it produces 3. You then you develop scenarios around that which would include decimals (any symbol) and letters.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The wild thing is, a vibe code should be a test driven development approach. So the person was so shoddy they didn't spec their test with even the basics. But they DID have enough knowledge to help the poor AI to get this code running, hence "almost entirely". Which also requires a lot of expertise to know how.

You dont link to the source of your claims but you link to your YT channel. I assume your here to shill your channel and your doing it by shitting on someones project.

Well since that project was done by vibing instead of coding (i.e. stole all the work from other people), I think shitting on it is perfectly cromulent.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

All programming is, is steeling code from other people. It happens ALLLLL the time and you can very easily get whatever you want from played like github

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not a good argument. Vibing is okay, because everybody steals? And no not all programming is stealing code. I've written countless programs over the years using only my code.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds about right.

The project author even outright says it’s rough, but the goal was to see if it could even be done at all… and it can.

All the problems mentioned are relatively trivial (except for maybe networking) compared to the scope of “make an OS that boots and runs processes”.

Getting to this point the first time took a few decades. Linux took over a year. If Claude can do it in a few days? That’s genuinely impressive.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Only if you can eventually get to an acceptable product, which I doubt. It's relatively easy to get something that gets a few things right, but if you can't get a finished product, it's useless.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It can't run DOOM!?!?

My fucking GUT can run DOOM!!!

2 weeks ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

There's just a BIT of lag.

2 weeks ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

How to install more gut bacteria?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude have you SEEN the prices on gut bacteria? AI data centers are buying them all up. I was thinking about selling mine.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still better than 3DO DOOM

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Burger Becky did the best she could with the very limited time she was given!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was a slur on the system - not the person making it - nobody should have HAD to make a sodding DOOM port for the 3DO xD

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But especially not having two and a half months to do it, without being provided any of the source code.
