Thank you to EMS Funnies and Ghetto Medic. They both keep me laughing.
In all seriousness though be safe out there.

I always let EMTs go ahead of me in whatever line I'm waiting on.

Lol #3 I've had students ask how I calculate my dose for emergency meds on coding animals so quickly...lol...ain't no one got time for that!
SkeletorGirl
Ad the wife of an ems/firefighter/oil field worker, what you guys do is amazing, THANK YOU!
Pixie0422
In all fairness. Sometimes they don't tell us that you're coming. I've even had a dr transfer a pt on me and didn't bother to tell me.
Danimalx23
I still have an understandable hatred of the pager phone's ring whenever I hear it in public.

OldIronsides
Once I was in the grocery store and they called a code at the register. Was a moment before I realized it was just cashier stuff.
YouSufferWithCognitiveDissonance
+1 for Emergency!
narwhalsies
Ugh that stair chair! I needed it after dislocating my knee and it was brutal going down stairs. But the EMTs were amazing.
brmedic
I hear the tones in my sleep at home in bed too often.
MedicPlease
Yeah me too
HanShotFirst39
I've heard overhead tones in stores and subconsciously started running to my rig.
Patientrain
I work in a post anesthesia care unit. I've had to take vitals every five minutes for 4 hours a couple times. Normally it's about 40-60 min.
goodmorningmoriohcho
When I was coming out of anesthesia from surgery, the nurse was checking my vitals and I accidentally threw up all over her shoes. Oops. : (
firemandave392
Won't be the first, or last, time that happens. I had to toss a pair of boots because of barf.
Solkanarmy
#4 my pain was 10/10 this morning too... pain au chocolat

As an ER nurse, I say thank you, sir for your post
MedicPlease
Thank you for what you do as well!
DrMantisToboggenMD
There needs to be one for all the fun psychiatric pt's
smokeandfire211
I despise psych calls. Thank god for Ativan and versed.
AnnaKareninanananananaBatman
One of my most unsettling calls was to a sanitarium.
Barackolama
It's sad i can't relate to any of those...
amw666
As medical working 102 hours weeks for the next month I love these keep them coming
MightAsWellPlayTheVillain
Did something similar, can relate.

(Pager guy) is everything all right? (Hoxton) ahhhhhhh yeah I think I left me stove on soooo I got to go bye. (Pager guy) yep checks out
unlikelyhero
I literally cried a little laughing at these, haha very well done!
henbykilla
These are absolutely spot on
adrismyesam
I heard the snake around the stick came from the dracunculus medinensis, when they wrap it around a stick to slowly pull it out the leg.
HanShotFirst39
Three words: fuck nursing homes.
smokeandfire211
Can't upvote this enough
thecoon55
They put me on mobility transports until a spot opens up on BLS, nursing homes is all I do http://replygif.net/thumbnail/246.gif
HanShotFirst39
God damn. I am so sorry. The "nurses" that work there are the ones that make it so shitty.
thecoon55
They are so rude and unhelpful, they will schedule a pickup for a pt, and when I get there they will still be laying in bed naked :/
HanShotFirst39
Of course they will. Didn't you realize they just had shift change and it's not their pt?
travelinaddy
What does PT mean?
smokeandfire211
Patient
travelinaddy
Makes sense.... thanks!
smokeandfire211
You're welcome!
PluckedDuck
And that occasional "free lunch".
imwithcayde6andproud
You get free lunch? I'm singing up riiiiight now.
DrMantisToboggenMD
It happens less than you think. Ive gotten more free lunches outside of ems than when actually in uniform pulling up in an ambulance.
DrMantisToboggenMD
Strictly speaking i do generally look like a homeless guy, but that besides the point.
MedicPlease
I got a free lunch for ems week, that's bout it, lol.
HanShotFirst39
EMS week. Free Chik Fil A dinner from the hospital at 9pm. Hadn't seen the station since 10am. Tears of joy ensued.
MedicPlease
I would have cried too. That place is delicious.
LeBRonSwanson
I've never had a free lunch :'(
MedicPlease
That's not cool
BobsYurUncle
So, do all EMS folks hate their jobs this much?
smokeandfire211
I absolutely love my job, but I hate the abuse that the system receives. It is stupid to call 911 for a hang nail and waste resources.
MedicPlease
Oh no we love our jobs but we also poke fun a lot.
DrMantisToboggenMD
No, and yes, but still no.
OmenRider
It's kinda like aircraft maintenance. The mutual complaining is the glue that keeps us together. "Embrace the suck" if you will
emergencyhotdog
I loved my time i wish i could get back to it
combatwombat0
Why can't you?
emergencyhotdog
Poor life decisions. Joined the army 4 years in an ER. Found what i love. Cant afford to get out. Poo. Maybe someday.
combatwombat0
Aww I hope you'll still find something you love doing
abrakadumbass
Ive had 10/10 pain. I shat myself because of it. I figure if youre capable of telling someone youre 10/10, you arent.
MimzytheBun

LocalFrenchCroissant
I spent a lot of time with lots of pain because of my handicap and because of the big surgeries involved. Pain is relative for everyone
LocalFrenchCroissant
That's why there isn't a really accurate scale or test for it. I have had 7 to 10 lots of time but i learned to internalise it so
LocalFrenchCroissant
I've had responders not believing me... That's quite annoying but i don't really blame them in the end
Sporkee
I tell patients to compare it to being mauled to death by a bear.
didntthinkofthat
I had twins on gas and air but would still class it as 7/10. If you're 10/0, you probably don't know about it any more.
MedicPlease
That's our theory too.
slanting
Got appendicitis when i was in 5th grade, felt the symptoms in the early morning but didn't get to the ER till about 8 PM, still not sure 1/
slanting
If i would call that a 10/10, maybe a 6 or 7 at best, and i was puking as well. Broken arm i had one time is definitely worse.
TallDude
I've had a spinal headache and a severed chunk of disk lodged into my sciatic nerve. Was still afraid to call that a 10/10.
abrakadumbass
I literally feel your pain. 3 disk herniations, impinging on the nerves. That was what I was referring to previously.
TallDude
Ouch, nooooo fun. Sorry man.
abrakadumbass
You get yours fixed? I'm looking at surgery options for later. I'm mostly OK unless I do something stupid.
MedicPlease
I would have let you get away with it on that one, lol.
TallDude
Yeah, being able to tilt my head back and forth and feeling my brain slide (well, softly impact) was not fun.
MedicPlease
Like a slushie?
TheType95
I dunno if I should even ask, but... How badly damaged would you have to be to be be in 10/10 pain?
MedicPlease
I'm with abrakadumbass, missing limbs, femur breaks, burns. On the non-trauma side childbirth, appendicitis, just horrid things.
abrakadumbass
It's literally the worst pain you've ever felt, and that's different for everyone. childbirth, broken bones, severe burns. That kinda thing.
Ray0Sunsine
Certain bones at least. I snapped my ulna and radius and was able to walk the couple hundred feet to the ambulance from the baseball field.
abrakadumbass
Also depends on the kind of fracture, too. Bones don't have nerves, so compound fractures hurt worse.
shadowfox
I'm sorry, but what does DOA means? Death on Arrival?
MedicPlease
Dead on arrival
shadowfox
Thank you
MedicPlease
You're welcome, sorry for the late reply, I was looking for something on here when I saw your question.
shadowfox
No worries! I still appreciate the reply!! Keep being awesome!
MedicPlease
You too!
