Well, i don't think she meant to unlock the brake. These carts have the handbrake built onto the normal brake pedal, you just press the brake normally and then also press the smaller corner pedal to lock the pedal in the depressed position. To unlock it, you just press the brake pedal again and it unlocks. Problem is that this mechanism gets really unreliable when the carts get older or the brake isn't adjusted right. I had them unlock just from getting in.
It's just a golf cart though, started to slow down even before the dad brake. She'd have been all right bar a few bruises maybe. Or she could have a bone or two broken if she's unlucky and/or unskilled, true.

Unless you have GREAT insurance, a trip ER is more expensive than a car at the body shop. If you spend a night or two at the hospital, the bill can be more than a new car.

tbf if I'm paying off someone's 100k car, I can't actively pay my monthly medical bills of 1k+ BECAUSE my insurance sucks. So its kinda a lose-lose situation in general do I end up killing myself slowly because I can't afford life saving medication, or slowly because I can't afford life saving medicine.
Difference is, if you don't have home / renters / car insurance to pay off that $100k car, you can probably file for bankruptcy and get out from under it. Which to me, would be much better than being seriously injured and trying to get out from medical debt while facing ongoing health issues from the injury and lowest cost health care
